I admired it more than enjoyed it, I think. The writing wasn't quite how McEwan normally writes, though still good.
Possibly part of my detachment is because I am not a huge Hamlet fan, and the book is a riff on Hamlet.
I wouldn't recommend it as your first McEwan! (Atonement is good)

How's the packing going, Louise? You off to find some sun, escape this ridiculous weather we've been getting in the UK?

I'm off skiing next week (24th on), so the snow is helping warm up to that. I'm not going to be able to read as much as normal, as it's a massive family event and I'll be told off by everyone if I retreat into blessed books too much :(

Going to the Isle of Wight for the week caravan holiday with the dog. Packed the important stuff, the plan is to go for lots of walks followed by relaxing with some good books.

I already wish you both a lot of fun on your holidays! It's a shame you'll be told off for disappearing into books, Cat, but a family holiday sounds like fun, too! Where are you going to go skiing?

It's a cast of thousands - my sister & her best friend have got a chalet together (so that's automatically four adults, five kids under 10, three under 5), and my mum & I are helping to defray my sister's costs. plus a nanny & au pair to help with childcare.

So my sister & BiL feel they are getting their money's worth of skiing & the childcare, they're planning to be up & out at like 8.30, dragging me with them. It'll be mad skiing till the kids classes are over - 1.30, in time for lunch & then kid related afternoons.

It sounds like I'm complaining - I'm not really! It'll be a lot of fun, and there is wifi in the chalet, so I can ARRRGGGH! here if needs be!

And the plus side: I will get my own bed, and not have to share a double with my mum, which is often the case when we go on big family holidays!
