Hi Nicky, I noticed that you chose They Both Die At the End for the second prompt. Unfortunately whilst it is a wonderful book by all accounts. It doesn't fit the prompts as it's leads identify as gay/ bisexual.

If you're looking for #LoveOzYA books about friendship to fit the prompt, a few others I can recommend are:

Queens of Geek
The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl
Night Swimming
Untidy Towns
The Yearbook Committee
The Boys of Summer
That one is actually free right now on Amazon Kindle HERE

Hi Grace,

Deadpool fan here, but for a graphic to count it needs to be YA.
Rick Riordan, C.S.Pacat, Amanda Hocking, Alice Oseman and Mariko Tamaki all have awesome YA graphic's :-).
And pretty much any of Rick's adaptations would fit the supportive friend prompt.

UPDATE:
#3: Simon Vs The Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

I did a twitter poll asking if there was a supportive friendship group in here and everyone has said yes so far and on top of that it's actually YA so I'm adding it in

Clare Snow (claresnow) | 61 comments Thinking about what to read for #3 in Feb.
I started reading Turtles All the Way Down
Eliza and Her Monsters
A Quiet Kind of Thunder
but had to stop them all because they were too triggering for me. Can anyone rec a book other than these?
I'll keep trying :-)

Hi Clare. We're still reading the January prompts so we've asked readers not to read ahead but if you're looking for a lighter read, have you read Queens of Geek?

Thanks. Just planning because I get most of my books from the library.

Unfortunately no as you probably guessed now that you have started the book. Sorry

message 68: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) @clare: definitely second Queens of Geek for a light-hearted read. I personally adored Beautiful Mess and Timekeeper but they are all 'intense' stories as well so I don't know how you'll do with them, sorry. 10 Things I Can See from Here is good, though. But maybe By Your Side? Cutesy contemporary and v lighthearted. Not a personal fave but might work for you.

message 69: by Clare (new)

Clare Snow (claresnow) | 61 comments Thanks for the recs re: anxiety. I also found Starfish. I might have to read them all!

@Rachel My book group is doing Beautiful Mess next month. They like to mess with my head.

For the Anxiety prompt would Six of Crows count?

Small press could be anything from perhaps UQP, Text Publishing, Wakefield Press? Even just a self published novel if you have a Kindle or reader. I know The Boys of Summer is usually free on Amazon and self published.

For the small town, there's lots to choose from.
Untidy Towns
Another Night in Mullet Town
Breathing Under Water
Black
Remind Me How This Ends
Night Swimming
No Limits
Swallow the Air
Clancy of the Undertow
Jasper Jones
Mallee Boys

If there's something in particular you're in the mood for, happy to recommend more to fit the prompt, Just give me a shout.

message 73: by Clare (new)

Clare Snow (claresnow) | 61 comments @Gotherella Facing Up is self published.

I love love love Breathing Underwater! and its pub UQP

I'm also keen to know if Six of Crows fits the anxiety prompt, if anyone knows? I've been trying to work it out but I keep accidentally almost reading spoilers!!

message 77: by Nara (new)

Nara (greengp01) From what I remember, while it's not explicitly named, it seemed more like PTSD and OCD were the main mental illnesses portrayed? I don't remember there specifically being a character with "anxiety" as such, but someone correct me if I'm wrong! It's been a while since I've read them.

Would Pantera Press be considered small press? I was thinking of reading If I Tell You by Alicia Tuckerman for this category.

message 79: by Chiara (new)

Chiara (delicateeternity) | 81 comments Mod
Hi Gill, there are POV chapters from a character called Damaris in Ida who is genderfluid, which is why it fits the prompt :)

message 80: by Chiara (new)

Chiara (delicateeternity) | 81 comments Mod
Hi Liz, Pantera Press would definitely be considered small press :) I hope you like If I Tell You!

message 81: by Grace (new)

Grace Arango (g-swizzel) | 13 comments My February Challenge Plan:
- Dark Magic - Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
- Self-Pub/Small Press - Graevale by Lynette Noni
- Protagonist w/ anxiety - Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella
- LoveOzYA “Small Towns” - Remind Me How This Ends by Gabrielle Tozer

message 82: by Chiara (new)

Chiara (delicateeternity) | 81 comments Mod
As long as the character has a POV the book counts! No problem :)

For those asking about SOC. I agree with Nara. It’s more PSTD so it wouldn’t count :(

Liz unfortunately no. I haven't read it but the magic isn't dark from what I have been told. It's more about mental illness and feminism
