Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I started News of the World for my book club. I am also using it for "western" in the ZZ Challenge, but it also fits other task as clouds in the cover, and probably most of it is set in march (I still have to finish it to be sure).

message 303: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I finished Behind Her Eyes and I loved it! My twin had go on holiday before we got to the end so Anna is finishing her read in the Maldives - lord help her she's really slumming it lol

Can't wait for her to get back to see what she thought of it :-)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm making one of my rare, and not always successful, visits to the YA genre by starting the hugely hyped The Cruel Prince.

message 305: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I'm reading La Giara (The Water Jug): A Story About Longing for ZZ challenge.

message 306: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I'm starting Replay for the mon. challenge

message 307: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I started The Witchfinder's Sister for February's monthly challenge. My twin, Jayme, started a week or so ago so I am playing catchup.

message 308: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I was reading the book in my post #327, but since I downloaded the Frieda Klein book, Tuesday's Gone, I haven't been able to put it down! I'm supposed to be reading my monthly challenge book, A Backpack, a Bear, and Eight Crates of Vodka: A Memoir, but I forgot to put it in my backpack when I left for work this morning. Good thing my Nook was in my purse.

message 309: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments I'm trying to finish up some of the books I started before the toppler and put aside. I just finished Batman: Nightwalker, which I read for the zodiac challenge. I'm almost through with The German Girl for the monthly challenge. It has taken longer than it should to finish because it just didn't draw me in. And now I'm also going to wrap up Other People's Houses, which I was enjoying when I put it aside.

message 310: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I read Alice for the toppler, group read and zodiac challenge. 3 birds and all that. I finished The Quantum Thief for the monthly twin challenge and I've just started Cinder for the group read and zodiac challenge.

message 311: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I started Rush Home Road for the zodiac challenge.

message 312: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Still listening to (and enjoying) Four Fires but since it so long I feel the need to start another one. No matter how good yhe narrator I just get a bit bored listening to the same voice! I will start The Little White Horse as it has to go back to the library next week.

I will have to choose a kindle book later today - can't decide whether to go with Pale Fire for the zodiac challenge or The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks which I bought last week and a really looking forward to ☺

message 313: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments Margo, I am the only one who did not like The immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. It is a good book but I used to do medical research. It didn't have enough facts for my taste.

That said It is a fascinating read. It shows many of the wrongs done when doing medical research. It is an educating read.

Oh, as as ex-scientist I need data! I'd say I will find it frustrating too. Did you read Bad Pharma: How Drug Companies Mislead Doctors and Harm Patients Renee? I found that disappointing. Although I think there is a lot of truth in the claims the author made I didn't think he presented much proof.

message 315: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm all for science and facts too, but I don't have a medical background and I didn't miss it in the book. I think (not sure) I thought it was all well explained but in a way accessible to many.

message 316: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I want to read bad pharma. I not so long ago read the one he wrote before, Bad Science, and really liked it.

message 317: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I want to read Bad Science

message 318: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments It has some fascinating stuff in there about placebo as well as what makes good research. Some chapters weren't so good but the book is worth a read for the placebo and research stuff in my opinion. Placebo fascinates me.

message 319: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I started Cocaine Blues. Why not?

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Margo wrote: "Oh, as as ex-scientist I need data!

I didn't know this. What was your field, Margo?

message 321: by Paul (new)

Paul Having visited Margo's home town , her field is the one with several scrawny sheep and an old tree stump in it

message 322: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Haha Paul - I'm sure I will come up with a witty reply at some point but right now I got nothing lol

I studied analytical chemistry Rusalka but I drifted from there into project management. There days I couldn't manage my way out of a paper bag :-D

@Paul- my home isn't the centre of nowhere it is the belly button of Ireland!!! And you won't get another invitation to my field home for a long, long time HA

@Rusalka - that's what I thought til I starting working lol

In many ways it is interesting and certainly made me question prescription drugs more but, yeah, lack of evidence is a bit annoying. To be fair, I listened to the audiobook, maybe the print version included supporting material :-/

message 334: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I listed to bad science and you don't get the citations but they do appear in the book. I guess that's the same for bad pharma.

message 335: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments I finished my challenge read, Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day last night and have started Sweep in Peace.

message 336: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments @Pragya - re: Cocaine Blues. Yes, I am liking it very much! It was a shock at first, but now that I have my head oriented in Aussie time and space, and getting to know and understand who Phryne Fisher is, quite an enjoyable read.

I finished reading the second Frieda Klein book, Tuesday's Gone, tonight. Quite the contrast in characters, setting and stress level. I have to wait for the third book now.

Back to Vienna now with Lev Golinkin and his family.

Ah that sounds good, Cherie! But like Rusalka, what was shocking, if it can be told without a spoiler?

Yay, Renee. I have read such mixed reviews of After you. What did you think of it?

message 343: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Feb 24, 2018 10:21AM) (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments I really enjoyed After You, Pragya. I'm sure if I would have enjoyed it quite as much if I had read it immediately after Me Before You. I don't think it was as good, but it was good on its own if you're not comparing them.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Renee - I have a copy of Still Me also. I plan to read it in March.

message 344: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments That's reassuring, Kristie. I read your review and what you wrote makes sense. If we compare, it will fall short. I am going in with a fresh start. Let's see.

message 345: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments Good luck, Pragya. I hope you love it.

message 346: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I'm reading Replay still. Have mixed feelings about it

message 347: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I did enjoy e after you. I didn't really like the story. But i loved the char. I wanted to spend more time with her. I think that's why I want to read the third book.

So i guess I will say it was a good book but not great.

I'm one of the minority who didn't care for that book Mikaya. Can't remember specifics but it was a slow read for me too.
