Sarah | 23 comments Sooo-- what about a fantasy location?

I read The Just City and was thinking I could maybe count it for the location prompt... but it feels like it might be cheating because it isn't a real city (it's real city in the book).

message 52: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melly2508) I’m reading Longbourn for this prompt, which is also a fictional location.

Does the location in the title reflect the actual book setting?
It's one of the settings, yes.

The Day the World Came to Town 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland by Jim DeFede"

Marissa- My daughter just saw the musical based on this book, in New York. She said it was terrific!

message 55: by Lizzy (new)

Lizzy | 907 comments I had hoped to read something else; but since my library holds haven’t come through I am reading Cold Comfort Farm. And, I’m really enjoying it. It’s a sendup, tongue in cheek funny book, parody of a certain kind of English novel.

The main character hasn’t gotten to the farm yet, but she is on the train heading there. It should be fun.

message 57: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleym99) I read Visitation Street by Ivy Pochoda.

The location in the title does reflect the actual book setting. This is the street a character lives on, people watching down and everything is happened on or just off this street.

The story was sad. I didn't really like it. I thought the story could have been better and I felt like I didn't really know the characters. I didn't really get into the way I do with some books.

It's ok. Can't like everything. It's good people have different taste because it would be boring if everyone liked the same thing. Glad you liked it tho.

Jean Cole (joc724) | 324 comments What are you reading for this category? Gap Creek by Robert Morgan
Does the location in the title reflect the actual book setting? Haven't read it yet but the cover says the two main characters move to Gap Creek after their marriage. So yes.

message 67: by Sue (last edited May 08, 2018 05:05PM) (new)

Sue S | 554 comments I read Cycling Home From Siberia by Rob Lilwall. His epic 3 year cycling stint from the eastern coast of Siberia (in mid-winter!) and back to London via Asia, New Guinea, Australia, back to Asia and finally Europe was exhausting to read. So many bad decisions - it's a wonder he's still alive.

message 68: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I've ended up swapping my books for this week. I'm stuck on The Count of Monte Cristo, and just found The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society down at my local Badi, and read that this afternoon instead. It was adorable!

And yes, the location in the title is the actual book setting.

Liz | 516 comments Would Where the Crawdads Sing work for this? It's not a town, city . . . but it's a where.

ETA - I think I'm going to go with The Girl Who Drank the Moon instead with "moon" being the location.

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 836 comments - What are you reading for this category?
The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason - My rating: 4 stars
It's a collection of parables with advice on how to handle money.

- Does the location in the title reflect the actual book setting?
Yes. I especially liked the historical info at the end. Babylon used to be one of the richest places in the world.

message 83: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) What are you reading for this category?
I read The Towers of Silence

Does the location in the title reflect the actual book setting?
No. I had thought the towers were going to be purely metaphorical, but at the very end the Towers of Silence do indeed exist and are seen by the main character out a window. It is perhaps a stretch to use this for this category, but since I am battling time, having started this project in July, I will allow myself the stretch. It is a place, so technically, it fits.

Melanie (watermelanie) | 112 comments I'm reading Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee: An Indian History of the American West for this prompt. It's been pretty difficult to get through because it makes me so angry. This would be a good choice for the indigenous people prompt in 2019. It's heartbreaking but definitely worth reading.

message 89: by Tracy (last edited Nov 17, 2018 03:39AM) (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments I haven't made time to read Newtown: An American Tragedy so far, which might be a good thing because I've read so many depressing books this year that I'm about to finish 4 for the challenge and then read ALL the juvenile fiction. Just binge on it.

I did read Starvation Heights: A True Story of Murder and Malice in the Woods of the Pacific Northwest, which fits here. What. A. Slog.
Anne warned me, but I had to finish.
Honestly the story is disturbing, like an accident you can't take your eyes off of, and I had to finish it but in retrospect I recommend just going to Wiki and looking it up. You'll get all the same story without the exhausting filler and save yourself several weeks of reading.

We also finished our picture book here with Our Animal Friends at Maple Hill Farm. I cannot explain to you how much I LOVE this book. It is my childhood favorite and I've read it a million times and I had to buy a brand new copy for myself as soon as my first daughter was born so she could grow up with it. Its my animal obsessed little one who appreciates it though. Just a really cute story about what all of the animals and pets on and around Maple Hill Farm are doing all the time. It dedicates one spread to each type of animal ( the cats, the dogs, the horses, the goats, etc...). I lived on a farm briefly when I was very young so I don't really remember it, and again for a year in my 20s, so I guess that and my love of animals is why this book stole my little heart. Its like my dream home, LOL.

Nadine, go read this one. You love picture books :-)
Johanne too
All of you, its my favorite...go read it.
