I'd like to add another story to this collection, and we'll be done with this year's pile of quick reads (I think): Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, or Opera Hat
Just to make a note for future reading: Kirsten mentioned in our horror section the story From Beyond by H.P. Lovecraft.
Do you have any suggestions for our new quick reads?
I'd like to add these:
Blow-Up and Other Stories (odd how we haven't read this one yet, I think we mentioned it often)
Bright Star: Love Letters and Poems of John Keats to Fanny Brawne (why not to read some good poetry once in a while?)
Lady Windermere's Fan

Another nomination coming from Jennifer - Mary Rose by J.M. Barrie. The book Mary Rose by Geoffrey Girard may be read in combination with it.
Another story to be read this year: The Lottery by Shirley Jackson.
Our bookshelf is now full till August :)

I just realized we are now down to the one quick read, so we should quickly nominate some new ones.
I'll add two for now: Million Dollar Baby and I, Robot. I am not sure for the latter if there are just some stories we should read, or the whole collection. Although, it shouldn't be a long read in any case.

Barbara suggested in our Nominations for Classics thread a story First Love - I think it'll be an interesting read, especially as we haven't read any foreign classics lately, and it had a couple of interesting adaptations.
I'd like to add another quick read: The Quiet Boy by Nick Antosca. The link to the story is available on its GR page. The movie is called Antlers, for which he also wrote the screenplay.
I finally found the book If Cats Disappeared from the World by Genki Kawamura - the movie I watched a year ago and loved it (reviewed it in our Adaptations on Review section).
Considering the font is quite large, I think this is a kind of book easily read in a day or two, so I'll put it on our bookshelf for quick reads.
I surely do not have to remind you that you also are free to post here your suggestions for our quick reads :)

Another add to our QR bookshelf:
The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder
Absolutely breathtaking novella I am certain you'll like. Well, at least I hope so.

The classic short story "Flowers for Algernon" was made into the film "Charly" - I believe it even won Oscars.

Yes, we did it ages ago, in May 2016. I am still due to watch the movie. I don't know why, maybe because the book felt to me so wrong, I fear the movie would just enrage me more.

I read it some time ago but I see I gave it 4 stars. I didn't know it had a movie.

Yes, actually there are a couple of them - the latest is from 2004, with Gabriel Byrne, De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Kathy Bates and a lot of other famous actors. To be honest, I didn't like it. As it was a long time ago, I'll probably watch it again when this discussion board opens up ;)

We still have three stories to read, so there's no rush to put any new quick read up, but I'd like to add some new suggestions:
This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona, the short story from The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie (the movie is called Smoke Signals)
Mr. Blandings Builds His Castle (original story) or Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (novel expanding on the story) by Eric Hodgins
Paycheck by Philip K. Dick (if in the story collection, just the title story)
Shadowlands by William Nicholson or Shadowlands: The Story of C. S. Lewis and Joy Davidman by Brian Sibley (same topic and movies)

Two new additions, nominated by Timothy in our Fantasy & SF nominations:
The Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft
The King In Yellow by Robert W. Chambers (the first season of True Detective)

Added five new quick reads to our bookshelf.
The only one left out was Shadowlands, because now I wonder if I'll make another project of C.S. Lewis's works and life next year. (We'll see after this Tolkien's one!)

I appears long by the pages count, but it is a play, it should be an easy read.
