Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I have just finished Labyrinth which wasn't bad. BUT it was boring at the start. Got better as it carried on.

Would I recommend it, well that depends on how much you like Historical Fiction and if you can handle 2 sides to a story over 800 odd years between them. Also swapping between the 2 characters as well. ONLY 1 character from the 2 ages connects them as well

Steven Farmer (sfarmer76) | 5 comments I can recommend 'Haiku' by Andrew Vachss. It's my first Vachss book, so I have nothing to compare it to.

DJ (djdivaofjava) | 659 comments Recently finished THE LITTLE STRANGERwhich I really liked, particularly for the open ending...
Also JULIET,NAKED was pretty good, not too sure if it has really helped attitudesto women though......

Sarah (sathans83) | 15 comments I’ve just finished the Poison Study Series as well as Storm & Sea Glass... LOVED them!
Maria V. Snyder is a genius.

Stephanie (stephaniex88) | 76 comments I just finished The Help by Kathryn Stockett and loved it! I've never done a book recommendation on GoodReads before but now I've sent one to almost all my friends here. Jo, I hope you don't mind that I sent one of them to you.

message 356: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniex88) | 76 comments I understand. =) I get some I don't want to read, too. It's hard to know what other people will like.

Hi DJ I think Juliet Naked had a positive spin to women. She had the guts to ditch a man she no longer loved and make a fresh start.
Most of the men came across as sexist or geeks/obsessives. The singer especialy seemed very sad in his relationships with women.

message 358: by DJ (new)

DJ (djdivaofjava) | 659 comments Hi Jason in general I agree with you and I really did enjoy it but it was marred for me by the way she deliberately was trying to get herself pregnant.I mean how long have women been getting a bad name over things like this and it wasn't even as though there was anything written into the book to show that she had made independent financial plans to support a child......
I just thought it was a really irresponsible attitude to portray....

message 359: by Shelli (new)

Shelli Jo wrote: "No thats fine :) I don't think i will end up reading it though because it doesn't really appeal to me. But thanks!"

Jo...it's a great book. You should try it someday.

message 360: by Shelli (new)

Shelli Do you ever listen to cd's? It was great that way!

message 361: by Jason (new)

Jason Clay (goodreadscomwillshakespeare) | 74 comments I have recently finished A cool look at global warming and the climate caper both very good. Surprisingly they both had the same message even though the first one was written by a non scientist.
The climate is getting warmer and to an unknown extent we are partly to blame. However its impossible to predict what the climate will be like in the future and a hundred years from now people will be wealthier so let them deal with it.

message 362: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Did he whine about his accident a lot in the paper book? I listened to the audio book.

message 363: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Harris I just finished The Tenth Circle. I enjoyed it, got attached to the characters and really felt like there was a lot of analysis of life and relationships. Made me think about what honesty is, what we think we want honesty to be, and what truth really does in a relationship. I've enjoyed several of Jodi Picoult's books and this one is near the top of the list.

An added bonus, although there was a bit of a surprise at the end, it wasn't the heart-wrenching "omg this changed my entire view of the story" kind of surprise. It flowed very nicely and I felt some closure. Unusual for one of hers.

Shelli Jo wrote: "No i've never tried to be honest. I'm not a member of any library so to get a cd would cost around the same, if not more, than getting a book."

They are expensive...usually more...I get most of mine from paperbackswap or the library.

Shelli I finished Shutter Island and liked it a lot!!

I started this but didn't like the subject matter and quit...for some reason I don't seem to be a fan of her books...????

message 367: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I should read the actual book at some point then. He read the audio book & he continually referenced his accident, as I recall. It was very irritating. I wouldn't mind just a section about it.

Seems like people either really like them or really don't.

Jennifer (JenJen1221) | 42 comments This month has actually been a pretty awesome month for me reading wise. I absolutely loved Before I Fall and The Hunger Games.

message 374: by Jerrod (new)

Jerrod (liquidazrael) John Dies at the End, Loved this book, definitely not for everyone but if you can get past some penis jokes here and there it's a great bizzaro read.

message 375: by Kimberley (new)

Kimberley (trillianne) | 65 comments I recently finished Driven to Distraction by Jeremy Clarkson by Jeremy Clarkson, I have read most of his books and his on line reveiws, its witty and raw and incredably funny.

message 376: by Kimberley (new)

Kimberley (trillianne) | 65 comments The thing with Clarkson is it isn't like reading a book, they are all short articles, usually between 5-10 pages that makes them easy to read and they are so funny, true to life but funny. The is one in another of his books where he talks about a collegue who takes his family on a business golf trip, the wifes condition was that he had to look after the children on the flight, clarkson describes this frazzled father and screaming child in a way that you have to laugh as at somepoint you would have either been in that situation or at least seen it. The best one I think is the previous one to this, it is his For Crying Out Loud The World According to Clarkson v. 3 (World According to Clarkson 3) by Jeremy Clarkson .

message 377: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniex88) | 76 comments Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. I loved this just as much as the Hunger Games. I can't wait for Mockingjay! :)

message 384: by Mara (new)

Mara (marabookstagram) | 3 comments Recently I have finished The Gargoyle which is just fabulous if you don't mind sometimes gruesome descriptions of severe burns and their treatment. I also really loved The Book Thief. I'd recommend that to anyone.

message 388: by M. (new)

M. B. Just finished The Decoy Princess by Dawn Cook, I really enjoyed it! Not your typical fantasy book or your typical romance or your typical heroine! I found myself so anxious to see what would happen next that I'd be speed reading through a few lines. Had to take a deep breath and slow myself down!

message 389: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Arms-Commander by L.E. Modesitt Jr.. This is about the 15th book in the Recluse saga & I loved it as much as the first.

message 393: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Attempted to read The Bitch Goddess Notebook - Martha O'Connor and really can't get into going backwards and forwards between 3 characters. Now I need to think what sort of mood I am in to read.

As for books...I love The Nightmare Academy books...they are a lot of fun :o)

message 395: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just finished Sharpe's Prey. I was very impressed. We watched some of the movies years ago & liked them, but I'd never gotten around to the books. This is the 5th in the series, but I stumbled over it a year ago & finally got around to reading it. I waited too long! Now I'm getting the first 4. There are over 20 in the series, though.
http://sharpe.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
has a good run down of them all & the movies.

message 396: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniex88) | 76 comments I just finished The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. I really liked it.

message 397: by M. (new)

M. B. I finished up 2 books this weekend. Soulless by Gail Carriger and Academy 7 by Anne Osterlund. While I liked both books, I thought Academy 7 was really GREAT! Character development, world setting, plot... all very engrossing. I couldn't put it down. It's a YA Sci-fi book, but don't let that fool you. It's really good. The only problem I saw what that I truly wanted to read more about the characters. Their story has only just begun!

I loved Soulless! Fun read! I am about to order the second one from Borders since my local store doesn't have it.
