Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed another ebook - The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith. This book was not what I expected, in a good way. It's cheeky and fun and reminds me a lot of BBC mysteries featuring amateur detectives. I liked the main character, though his description was more of a caricature. I loved the character of his secretary! Worth reading! 4 stars

30/30 - challenge completed!

Debi Robertson | 19 comments I finished my challenge today. Of the 45 books to read this year 30 were to come off of my 'collection' shelf. It was a very difficult challenge because I took a university course this fall and although the textbook counted, I could not count the approximately 85 scientific papers I had to read. I am pleased with the selection of books I chose starting with War and Peace (what a slog) and ending with Farley Mowat's The Curse of the Viking Grave. I am going to continue the 'off the shelf challenge" I still have a lot of books on my 'to read' shelf and of course for Christmas received a gift card for Chapters. So more new books. I think I might lay off the university courses though. As much as I enjoy the learning they are interfering with my enjoyment, reading time.

message 895: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Heineman | 14 comments Will there be a similar challenge to this for 2019? One of my goals for the year is to work down the large pile of books that have been hanging around my house for far too long!

message 896: by Huhn (new)

Huhn | 47 comments I aimed for 5 books but only read one... I am so sorry :( Maybe there is a reason why those books where on my tbr pile for so long. I don't want to force myself into reading books I'm not in the mood for at the moment. So I'll just let them be and try again to read them, when I really want to. :)
