Truthtellers sometimes get that kind of reception

Oh, hell, the Tom Cruise thing was just an example of what can and will be done. I wasn't extolling YouTube as a news source.I'm with Graeme: "The net result is that it is becoming exceedingly difficult for anyone to understand what is fact and what is fiction.
This is a very serious loss for our culture and society as it breaks down trust."
He said it better than I did. I'm angry with the people "who see no ships".
Don't forget Horatio Nelson used the blind eye technique to get things done, not to avoid doing anything.

Once again, I am not as worried as others. This too shall pass. This is not the first time the news has not been trusted. The fact we can talk openly about it says all we need to know. People are already wise to the fact there is this problem.

Sure Chicken Little, the sky is falling.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EopP1...At about the 1 hour mark, they talk about AI. It is an interesting take and I tend to agree with Neil deGrasse Tyson on this issue. Bill Maher gives a good counter point.
I've got to admit, as Americans, we haven't exactly trusted the news since Mr. Clements pointed out that if you didn't read the papers then you were ignorant, yet if you did, then you were misinformed. Human bias is in everything. You have to control that. Even with the AI situations, the human bias seems to be a bit more of the progressive strands of thought from America.
The mysterious dismissal and prompt reinstatement of Sam Altman might be some subtle ploy of the AI, as no one can explain what the hell is going on:https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/22/te...

Nik, hints at the idea that genuine AI has already emerged.
Already out of date, but pertinent to the conversation.REF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2bdG...
Any you thought AI was dangerous .... cue sexy AI....REF 1: (Good bye influencers, models and expensive posers with egos): https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-in...
REF 2: AI built this.... (Good bye Only Fans ... etc) (Slightly Risque content you could find at a well-regulated beach or lingerie show......) https://twitter.com/VeranoVicki
2 obvious issues...
Something like 40% of all current young Japanese males will never marry and have children.... how long before the AI partner is the partner of choice... how long before that becomes the norm across the modern world?
Noting that AI partners will adapt their personality to perfectly match whatever it is that you want.
How easy will it be to replace all influencers, models, actors (or any gender) with AI generated images? And would anyone (apart from those who lost their jobs) care?
How long before we have AI politicians to front parties for their campaigns.

When I see this, I just ask myself, what do I do if it's strangling me.
Saint Barrett gave us this with which we may remove the godless machine.https://www.gunbroker.com/item/102049...
Praise God and pass the ammo.
Thanks for the laugh, J. But what if they have armor? Wait, the impact alone might knock them off their feet long enough to use a taser to short out their electronics, maybe? Who the heck knows.

It still has to interpret what it reads, and I rather suspect that a lot of dated knowledge that has never been entered in computer form would be omitted.
There are agencies and firms doing "digitalization" of paper into electronic form, but it's hard to evaluate the scope
AI will probably be very good as a search engine once it gets perfected. They hard part is will it be able to provide data without a bias.
In science, a problem is the bias of the author. The author likes to highlight how (s)he confirmed the current paradigm, and will often include some other information that the author does not know what it signifies. It is there, but only just. Yet for proper understanding of some other problem, that information might be critical. The problem for AI is to assess the likely relevance of the material that is there almost as an aside
Papaphilly wrote: "AI will probably be very good as a search engine once it gets perfected. They hard part is will it be able to provide data without a bias."Bias will be built in to these current AI, large language models by the material they are trained on.
ChatGPT apparently reflects the New York Times.

So the problem will only be compounded. Go figure.

My first thought was, "Which whiskey would it pour for me?" Then I wondered, "If I was wearing an old bath robe and flip flops, would it make me a White Russian?" Imagine the soul searching chaos if it made a Cosmopolitan for a gym bro.
But, what if this is how the machines plan to overthrow our dominion?
"Beep. Just get the monkeys drunk. Beep."

I'm just a guy... AI will exceed expectations ... that's the problem. We do not know how these machines will evolve.

One thing I believe can be predicted: they will not be human.

Strong recommendation on this for at least the first half.
It felt like somebody else trying to imitate him. The style was close and there were some clever punchlines. But it lacked the élan.
J. wrote: "It felt like somebody else trying to imitate him. The style was close and there were some clever punchlines. But it lacked the élan."Yep, and I hope it lacked something.
J. wrote: "It felt like somebody else trying to imitate him. The style was close and there were some clever punchlines. But it lacked the élan."This is early attempts. Give it some time.
Papaphilly wrote: "This is early attempts. Give it some time.."The scary thing is that it'll get better at this.

That does worry me a bit.
Scout wrote: "Good that you're finally worried :-)"Still nothing more than a mimic, however, At what point do we not know what is real and what is not?

Papa, watch the fake Tom Cruise video I previously posted and see if you can tell the difference between fake and real.
It's obvious a talking head is mounted on a static image of a suit, but is putler really alive? https://www.newsweek.com/putin-new-ye...
Nik wrote: "It's obvious a talking head is mounted on a static image of a suit, but is putler really alive? https://www.newsweek.com/putin-new-ye..."Yeah. Putin is still alive.
Scout wrote: "Papa, watch the fake Tom Cruise video I previously posted and see if you can tell the difference between fake and real."I had already seen it. I could tell easily, but if I had not been paying attention....
Some turnabout in just a year: https://www.washingtonpost.com/techno...Specifically, AI is expected to target individuals with tailored-made fakes to influence election choices. As some of you elect or can elect this year, be ready, my friends
People already have enough to deal with in real life. The brakes need to be put on AI, but it can only be done with government intervention and enforcement, and the government isn't dealing with controlling AI and its applications, despite warnings from Musk and others. We will no longer be able to judge for ourselves what is real: this means that we lose all control over our lives because we no longer trust our judgement. Someone/thing will be in charge, but it won't be us. We in this group will no longer be able to have political discussions because we won't know what's real and what's not. How to discuss when the foundation is no longer stable? This will tear us apart.
We still have some first source info left. The group was founded in pre-AI times and I trust veteran members to be human or extraterrestrial not artificial. For example, obviously, you can’t trust Ian on Ukraine, where he’d never been and repeatedly complained that he doesn’t get enough info from, but you can trust his reports on how things are in Lower Hutt 🛖 , NZ 😎
