Freddy | 1 comments Hello everyone!! My name is Freddy and I'm from Ghana but I live in the US (Austin).

It's been a while since I read books and I'm trying to get back into the habit! I like to read fiction (classics); A Tale of Two Cities, Animal Farm, To Kill a Mockingbird, Oliver Twist, and many more . I also enjoy mystery, crime, fantasy, comics, manga (Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, Full Metal Alchemist), etc.

I found this group by clicking through the "Community" tab. My goal for this year is to read a book per week! So far I've read Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini which I highly recommend. I've also read Falsely Accused by Robert K Tanenbaum.

I'm currently looking for my next read so any recommendations would be appreciated!!!!!

Hi Deanna, welcome to the group! I love HP (read and watched the series); GoT I only watch the series but have the books on my TBR (for someday; too many books I want to read).
My favourite series from last year was The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. Have you read them?

Hope you'll join some of the buddy reads (my favourite part of the group if I'm being honest lol)! Looking forward to seeing what you will be reading.
Have fun! And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!!

message 1110: by Faye (new)

Faye | 55 comments Hey all,

My name is Faye and I'm from Illinois.

I like to read a little bit of everything, but my favorite genre is paranormal and horror and I mostly stick to YA.

My goal this year is 55 books. The past two years, my goal was 50 and I was able to reach it just fine with 1 or 2 extra, so now I'm going to challenge myself a teensy bit.

I'm hoping to meet some awesome people as well as even get some new book recommendations!

message 1111: by Ashley (new)

Dave Lawrence (davefromjerra) | 36 comments Hello everyone. My name is Dave and I live on Magnetic Island, a small tropical island off the coast of Townsville in northern Australia.

I've set myself a goal of 30 books and have started a thread with the four I've read so far this year.

I read a wide range of books, both fiction and non-fiction. The only certainty is that I will re read A Christmas Carol just before Christmas (and the latest Wimpy Kid book which is usually out around that time of the year).

I look forward to participating in the group.

rina | 1 comments Hey guys! My name is Roxanne and I am from Singapore. I was never much of a reader growing up but I really want to change that this year. I love thriller, fantasy, psychological and mystery books and I enjoy comedy books in between. I joined goodreads to ensure I stay motivated and not fall into a slump. Everyone here is so passionate about reading and it is really encouraging. My goal for 2018 is to read 30 books and I hope to participate in at least one reading challenge. I would love any book recommendations.

Thank you for reading this and have a nice day! :)

Welcome to the group Roxanne! If you're looking to keep motivated and not fall in a reading slump, you have come to the right place. For me, joining this group in 2017 was a real help to get back into reading after a reading slump of many years. I started out with a tentative goal of 12 books, upped it to 24 during the year and ended up reading 46 books!!! All thanks to this group, the great challenges, the awesome group and buddy reads (which I highly recommend) and last but certainly not least, the amazing group members who were always supportive, motivating and encouraging. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have.

I really love fantasy, thrillers and mysteries as well (next to a couple of other genres). I've been recommending The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer; it's the series that got me out of my reading slump last year.

Have fun! And if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Dawn | 32 comments Hi everyone,

My name is Dawn and I am originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland (now living in England).

I try to read a wide range of genres, from fantasy to romance and thrillers.

I found this group to find other people, doing similar challenges and as inspiration to keep going, whenever I hit a reading slump. My reading goal numerically this year is 50 books.

I am looking forward to hopefully making some friends here!

message 1120: by Periodic (new)

Periodic (periodicreader) Hi all!
I'm Cheri...I work for a digital library and married a librarian, so my life is pretty much over saturated with books.
I've read over 100 books a year since 2015 and will be continuing with that as my goal. I'd actually like to break 130 this year if at all possible. We'll see where I'm at come July and I'll re-evaluate at that point.
I'll basically read anything that I can get my hands on, but I have a soft spot for horror and psychological thrillers. I purposely mix things up with non fiction every few books just to keep on my toes.

I've joined a few book groups in the past, but ended up in kerfuffles because my numbers tend to intimidate, I guess. I don't mean for them to, I just don't have a television. lol I'm hoping that this is not the case in this group. Numbers are odd eggs in that way.

Challenges intrigue me and I'm looking forward to getting into discussions with other members.

Welcome to the group Dawn! Participating in this group is a great motivator for reading and a great help overcoming and preventing reading slumps, at least in my experience. Hope you’ll enjoy it! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Welcome to the group Cheri! If you have a look around you’ll see that goals will range from 5 to over 300. All goals are equally perfect, as long as your goal fits your lifestyle and your wishes. That’s the cool thing about this group!

Benjamin Maple | 20 comments Hi, I'm Benjamin from Michigan.

Lately I've been reading psychological horror books, (House of Leaves/Annihilation) but I also enjoy fantasy, and science fiction novels. I'm also working on branching out into nonfiction (history/social justice).

I used to read a lot more when I was younger, but the internet has shot my attention span, so I'm trying to fight back against that this year.

I'm going to set the bar a bit low at 24 books this year, but we'll see what happens.

I love reading 🖤 My favourite genres are Fantasy, romance, fiction, Sci-Fi, thriller and everything that is magical.
I found this group surfing around goodreads, looking for new challenges and stuff.
My reading goal for this year is to read 52 books, because I’m on a challenge from my country and it’s about reading 52 books in 52 weeks, due to the weeks of the year. I’m not sure if I’m going to read a book per week, but I’m totally motivated to read the 52 books!
Hope we can get along :)

I've found the book using the in-app group search tools from Goodreads, so nothing special there.

My reading goal is set to 30, i really hope to finish it, it'll be hard because i have a newborn child, and my work involves a lot of traveling around the world, but i hope to use that time travelign to catch up with the reading challenge!

See ya!

message 1136: by Miel (new)

Miel (miely__) | 1 comments Hi I am Miel. I’m not a fan of book reading because I am kinda like a dyslexic but I am really not. I just find it hard to read and most of the time I read words differently like solstice i read it as solace and that happened just earlier. When I’m young I keep on reading spalding as splading. There are also times that my teacher would ask me to read a paragraph but tend to read other lines from different paragraphs even though I started the first line correctly. Sometimes I also have to read a sentence multiple times just for it to sink in to my brain.

But I read articles online but I keep on skipping things that contains long paragraphs. I blog and I don’t re-read my post for checking errors.

Anyways, I decided last year to try my best finishing a book but in an ebook form so I can adjust the spacing fonts and everything because with real books the fonts makes me dizzy.

I was able to finish one last year and decided to challenge my self an ebook per month so far I finished 2 this month 😀

Since I don’t have any interests with books ever since I just copied all the books that my friends were reading and decided to read them all ☺️

Diane (diane_g) | 608 comments Hi!

I'm Diane. It's nice to meet all of you!

* I am from Sonoma County, in Northern California.
* What kind of books I like to read... oh my gosh, so many. My taste is all over the place. YA dystopian, some scifi/fantasy, mystery, thriller, crime procedurals, literary fiction/classics, non-fiction (history, social issues, politics), and much more!
* I just stumbled on this group today, and I'm so excited to have found it!! I've already entered two challenges and am looking forward to more.
* My reading goals for the year are many. My Goodreads goal is 60 books. I'm doing the Book Riot Read Harder 2018 challenge. I set a 2018 1-50 Personal Challenge to read 24 (2/month) books off of my physical bookshelves - books I actually own. And, I'm doing this group's First Quarter - Must Read Books Challenge. It's going to be a challenge, for sure! :)

Thanks for making this group happen and all you do to moderate it.

Happy reading.

Grey Klee (variegatedspoonie) | 1 comments Hey!

I'm Mads. I used to be an avid reader and booktuber but fell out of it after I went into recovery and didn't really know how to read without falling into triggering books... just recently getting back into it! I feel guilty that I am listening to audiobooks, like I'm cheating reading... but it's better than not reading! :D

I mainly read YA Fiction but this year am trying to read different genres to see if there's other things I like.

I've seen this group mentioned a lot and in my newsfeed but after a friend posted and I realized I could track my books for the challenge here I decided to give it a try! :D It's a bit overwhelming with all the topics, but I like it so far!

Original goal was 50 but I'm already almost at 10... so might change it.

If you look above the comment box there is "add book/author" link, when you click it opens a box in the tab you're in that allows you to type in the title of a book and/or an author's name. After that simply click to add!

I enjoy reading just about anything but my favorite books are typically fiction and fantasy. My favorite author of all time is J.R.R. Tolkien. I found this group by clicking around on this site (I joined today so I was exploring). My reading goal for this year is 50 books.

Laura Chase Hi All,
I'm Laura Chase and live in Lawrence MA.
I found this group by just browsing around the Goodreads Site.
My goal is 48 books. I generally read what ever looks interesting although most of the books fall into fiction or mystery.

General question: Is anyone going to participate in the PBS News Hour/ NY Times book group through Facebook? I thought I'd try it starting this month.
