Last year I read Jimmy Carter's Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid and I really enjoyed it. Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi is another good one. Lately I've been reading some by comedians, like Paddle Your Own Canoe by Nick Offerman and Born Standing Up by Steve Martin. A good mix, haha.

Hanna (hannastuckinabook) | 1 comments Hi I am Hanna, I am from France.
I like to read pretty much everything that isn't contemporary (I am not a romantic) and really enjoy reading about science.
My reading goal is to read more 25 books this year and to read books that are very diverse to get a better understanding of the world.

message 1054: by Mary (new)

Mary (maryjane99) Hello! I am Mary and I am from Indiana. I love to read romances, mystery, YA fiction, and classics. My main goal is to cut down on my TBR. My reading goal is set at 20 but I would love to read more.

Colleen Palladino | 23 comments Hello everyone! My name is Colleen and I am 24 years old from a little town in New Jersey. My 2018 Reading Challenge is to read 42 books in the year. I am clearly a scifi fan just based on my favorite number 42 (Douglas Adams is my all time favorite author). I also love fantasy, especially world building and character driven fantasy. I found this group through crazy random happenstance on Goodreads. I am glad I found a group to keep myself updated on my own personal challenge this year. I can tell 2018 is going to be a good reading year for me, I hope.

Brandon McDonald | 3 comments Hi everyone! My name is Brandon McDonald. It's cool to see where everyone is from and to find a group of passionate readers. When I mentioned to one of my professor's about a year ago that I was writing a book, she questioned me and asked, "Are you sure people still read?" It's nice to see that people still do haha. Anyways, I'm from Kansas and enjoy a different variety of books. This year I hope to find the time to finish the lunar chronicles by Marissa Meyer, but all together, I hope to read at least 5 to 10 books this year. I'm interested in all types of books from fiction, fantasy, romance, mystery's, thrillers, and even history. If there's a topic or story that interests me or something that I can relate too, I will definitely check it out.

Anna | 3 comments Hi everyone,
I am Anna from Germany, and I have a passion for reading and writing. Unfortunately my reading goals in the past have been neglected due to life's ways.
But, new year, new luck. :)
I mainly read fiction, but have recently developed an interest for biographies. I adore Virginia Woolf and Jeanette Winterson, however, I prefer reading them on the couch, opposed to in the subway, which makes me a super slow reader, who reads several books at the same time. ;)
I am looking forward to good suggestions and interesting discussions.

Welcome Brandon!
I love The Lunar Chronicles. Plan on reading Winter and Stars Above next month (if you'd like to buddy read them, just give a yell).
So how is your book coming along?

Looking forward to read your updates!

Vy Hi everyone, I'm Vy from California. Like everyone here, I have a great love for books. I don't have specific genre that I like as long as the books is good. Along with my goal to read 70 books this year, I also gave myself the goals of being more active in the groups that I joined and making some reading friends. As a result, I thought this place would be the perfect place to start and decided to introduce myself. I look forward to making friends and having some interesting discussion with you all.
I wouldn't say no to some book suggestions either :)

I am married to a hard working logger whom I adore with my whole being. ;) I am the mother of 5 sons ranging from 22-13. I read constantly... my books, my phone, my cook books, and whatever I lay my eyes on. My favorite books tend to be fictional.. love, adventure, mystery and psychological thrillers. I will attempt anything honestly but will not force myself to finish. A good story is a good story. :)

Hi Vy! Happy to hear that you want to be more active in your groups. I can say from experience that it can become very addictive lol
Not sure what genre you would like to read next or if you have even read it already but one of my favorites from last year was The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer.

I felt like the previous years I didn't have enough time to read until the year of 2018 where I have set some time aside in the morning and before bed to sit, relax and escape reality.
I'm 24 days into my goal of reading 12 books this year and I'm on track! I would love to make some new bookworm friends. I'm currently reading and book #1 is Wilde Lake by Laura Lippman 😊📚

message 1083: by Dianne (new)

Dianne (dianne1) Hi -I'm Dianne from Connecticut in the USA.

I've already been making a pest out of myself (I forgot to introduce myself when I first joined up!)

I read nearly everything (Note I did say nearly).

I am a firm believer in not finishing a book if I don't like it; you don't need more than a sip of milk to know it's bad, right? lol

I have a LOT of favorite author's and I am constantly re-reading their books. I tend to be a little cautious about new authors and books that are huge hits. I, for some reason, tend not to go along with the crowd in my likes.

My challenge this year is 355 books which is 5 more than last year -although I did actually finish 393 books for the 2017. (don't worry some had been very, very short!)

On the personal side :

I'm 60
I'm a bit on the ill side so I have plenty of time to read. I am always wondering if I will live to see my favorite series completed -imagine my shock when one of my favorite authors passed away without being able to finish her series! I never once thought of something like that happening.
Feb 13th I will have been married for 36 years.
I've been a member of GR for 10 years.
I lost my best friend and book buddy recently so if anyone is interested in book discussions just check out my books to see if we have anything in common and if so and you like to 'talk' just contact me!

Sorry for babbling!
Dianne

Mariana | 2 comments Hello, fellow readers!
My name is Mariana and I'm 16 years old.
I was born in Portugal and lived there 'till I was 12, when I moved to Brasil!

I am kinda new to this community, because I didn't discover my love for books until recently, which I very much regret!
With that being said, please don't judge me for my ignorance in various subjects ! hahaha :-)

I don't really like books with a lot of romance, I don't mind if the main topic of the book isn't romance but there's something going on in there, if you know what I mean. HOWEVER there are some exception, like "The sun is also a star" (seriously, that book is amazing!)

Yeah...I don't know what else to say! So excuse me if i wrote anything wrong (English is not my first language, even tho I adore it) and I hope to get to know you!

Hugs and kisses!

message 1091: by Luke (new)

Luke Stephens | 5 comments Hello from Australia the land down under.

Why: My reading goal is 52, which is close to the amount of books I have read in general. Why, well I've been on an information diet from books, news & social media. To cut that fast I've decided to delve into a lot of books to help expand my mind.

How: Types of books, I'm reading are things that help stretch my understanding of the world we live in be that technology, human interaction, art, science, spirituality. Also books that stretch my imagination are equally as interesting to me.

Found out about the group on the main page of Goodreads.

If you'd like to checkout what books I've got in the list check out my profile. Would love some suggestions based on the reviews I've left as well if anyone has the time to check them out :-)

Alex Szabo Hi I'm Alex from Missouri USA, recently got back on Goodreads. Instead of wasting time on social media, etc. I made one of my New Years resolutions to read more books and expand my mind. Right now I set my goal to 40 books. For genres, I like sci-if/dystopia, historical fiction, and I'm definitely going to try and read more classical works by authors like Dostoyevsky, Dumas, and I'm not sure else! I definitely would appreciate any suggestions based on my reading list or generally great works of literature not more than 1000 pages (only if it's really good) thanks!
