Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2018

I like to read pretty much everything that isn't contemporary (I am not a romantic) and really enjoy reading about science.
My reading goal is to read more 25 books this year and to read books that are very diverse to get a better understanding of the world.

Cheers

if you have questions let us know happy reading and welcome!

I am Anna from Germany, and I have a passion for reading and writing. Unfortunately my reading goals in the past have been neglected due to life's ways.
But, new year, new luck. :)
I mainly read fiction, but have recently developed an interest for biographies. I adore Virginia Woolf and Jeanette Winterson, however, I prefer reading them on the couch, opposed to in the subway, which makes me a super slow reader, who reads several books at the same time. ;)
I am looking forward to good suggestions and interesting discussions.

Welcome Brandon!
I love The Lunar Chronicles. Plan on reading Winter and Stars Above next month (if you'd like to buddy read them, just give a yell).
So how is your book coming along?
Looking forward to read your updates!

I wouldn't say no to some book suggestions either :)

Hi Vy! Happy to hear that you want to be more active in your groups. I can say from experience that it can become very addictive lol
Not sure what genre you would like to read next or if you have even read it already but one of my favorites from last year was The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer.
Looking forward to your updates and comments! Hope you’ll enjoy participating in this group! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Hi Alicia, welcome to the group! At first it can seem a bit overwhelming and confusing but once you figure out how the topics/threads are organized, you’ll see it’s quite accessible. But if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!
Have fun!!

Thank you for sending me those. I'm not sure yet. Do you have recommendation's?

Thank you and will do! Are those the last two? I've been behind for a while. My roommate got me into those and the last one I remember him reading was winter.
Thank you for asking. My book has been coming along pretty good I think and later this month I will be having a giveaway, so feel free to check out if you'd like too.

It really depends on what you like. I joined way too much this year but I will have fun trying.

Yes they are.

Cool! Just give a shout (cause I’m not checking them out every day and might miss it otherwise).

I felt like the previous years I didn't have enough time to read until the year of 2018 where I have set some time aside in the morning and before bed to sit, relax and escape reality.
I'm 24 days into my goal of reading 12 books this year and I'm on track! I would love to make some new bookworm friends. I'm currently reading and book #1 is Wilde Lake by Laura Lippman 😊📚

Hi Caroline welcome to the group! It is never too early to pick a favorite I will have to look into that title it looks good. If you are looking to discuss books I hope you find a Buddy Read, Group Read or a challenge to jump into happy reading!

Hi Ashley welcome! 12 books is fantastic progress. Do you have a book you can't wait to read this year? Or maybe a book out of the 12 that you can't wait to tell a friend about? I look forward to reading and discussing books with you. Welcome again and happy reading!

Hi Temitayomiyoshiseun, welcome to the group! Have you had the chance to look around and see what the group has to offer yet? Are you planning on joining any of the great challenges, or maybe some of the fun and interesting group and buddy reads? Or maybe you just want to keep track of your goal in your personal challenge page? Anything is possible! Have fun and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

I'm Sowndarya from India. I love Fantasy, Crime, Mythological fiction and Children's fiction.
Recently I've developed an interest in Classic poetry too.
I was just looking around for groups and this was the first one that popped up and the only one I found interesting... so here I am.
Really excited to be here!

I think you might like the Dig Deeper challenge here is the link.

happy reading and best of luck this year.

For me this is amazing. When I joined this group, we were just passing the 6,000 member mark.
I am so happy to see all of you new members.

Welcome to the group Snehal! We're excites to have you join us. Hope you'll have lots of fun participating! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

So true!
Welcome to the group Barb! Have fun and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

I've already been making a pest out of myself (I forgot to introduce myself when I first joined up!)
I read nearly everything (Note I did say nearly).
I am a firm believer in not finishing a book if I don't like it; you don't need more than a sip of milk to know it's bad, right? lol
I have a LOT of favorite author's and I am constantly re-reading their books. I tend to be a little cautious about new authors and books that are huge hits. I, for some reason, tend not to go along with the crowd in my likes.
My challenge this year is 355 books which is 5 more than last year -although I did actually finish 393 books for the 2017. (don't worry some had been very, very short!)
On the personal side :
I'm 60
I'm a bit on the ill side so I have plenty of time to read. I am always wondering if I will live to see my favorite series completed -imagine my shock when one of my favorite authors passed away without being able to finish her series! I never once thought of something like that happening.
Feb 13th I will have been married for 36 years.
I've been a member of GR for 10 years.
I lost my best friend and book buddy recently so if anyone is interested in book discussions just check out my books to see if we have anything in common and if so and you like to 'talk' just contact me!
Sorry for babbling!
Dianne

My name is Mariana and I'm 16 years old.
I was born in Portugal and lived there 'till I was 12, when I moved to Brasil!
I am kinda new to this community, because I didn't discover my love for books until recently, which I very much regret!
With that being said, please don't judge me for my ignorance in various subjects ! hahaha :-)
I don't really like books with a lot of romance, I don't mind if the main topic of the book isn't romance but there's something going on in there, if you know what I mean. HOWEVER there are some exception, like "The sun is also a star" (seriously, that book is amazing!)
Yeah...I don't know what else to say! So excuse me if i wrote anything wrong (English is not my first language, even tho I adore it) and I hope to get to know you!
Hugs and kisses!

Ps: which series/author were you talking about?

Hi Faye 50 books is a fantastic way to start. We are very happy to be your first group. I will suggest you look into the Dig Deeper Challenge to see if you would like to branch out from romance a little this year.

Welcome to the group Mariana! So happy for you that you have discovered your love for books! It’s never too late and you are still young so you still have lots of time to discover a lot of amazing reads!
I didn’t know people were still emigrating from Portugal to Brasil? What was your (family’s) reason to do so if I may ask? And how are you liking it?
Well, I hope you’ll have lots of fun in this group! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Welcome to the group Faye! Excited that you have found us. Will you be joining any of the great challenges or maybe some of the group and buddy reads?
In any case I hope you’ll have an amazing time in this group! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Why: My reading goal is 52, which is close to the amount of books I have read in general. Why, well I've been on an information diet from books, news & social media. To cut that fast I've decided to delve into a lot of books to help expand my mind.
How: Types of books, I'm reading are things that help stretch my understanding of the world we live in be that technology, human interaction, art, science, spirituality. Also books that stretch my imagination are equally as interesting to me.
Found out about the group on the main page of Goodreads.
If you'd like to checkout what books I've got in the list check out my profile. Would love some suggestions based on the reviews I've left as well if anyone has the time to check them out :-)

Last year I read Jimmy Carter's Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid and I really enjoyed it. Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi is another good one. Lately I've been reading some by comedians, like Paddle Your Own Canoe by Nick Offerman and Born Standing Up by Steve Martin. A good mix, haha.
