Actually I'll take O for Oscar in the brief wondrous life of Oscar Wao, I'll be finished with it tomorrow which will be within the time of the competition. I then plan on reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman so can take A for American or N for Neil.
Kme_17 wrote: "I can do E if no one else wants it."You're first to respond, so feel free to take E. :) We're first come, first serve!
Corey- I got you marked for both.
I have Reached in my pile, so I think I'll take the R.
And I can easily take a romance unless someone else wants to grab that :)
So we have M, N, and C left (and the genre if anyone wants it). After we get those completed we can collect bonus points for extra letters read.
I can take the romance or another letter if needed : ) just let me know. the e book is English as a Second Language
I can take the romance. I'll be reading His Mistress or the letter M. Whichever works better. I have also started Wild Man which can also be used for romance or letter M.
Karen- the letter has to come from the first word of the title, but I'll mark you down for the genre read.I messaged all our missing teammates, hopefully they will stop in soon and not just think I'm a crazy person ;)
I'll update the book post once I can reclaim my computer from my kids. For now I'm stuck with the mobile app, sigh...
Hey everyone, I've just been going through some of the other teams post and indomitableness for one has quite a bit of books chosen for their word, and should they actually read what they have posted on their spreadsheet they already plan on reading around 18 books. So keep that in mind.
Sneaky, sneaky! :) Glad I'm not the only competitive one here! It's still the first day, and not even the official one at that. Slow and steady, right? ;)

Karen- I did some looking at your books and got them to fit from the author's names :).
Also, I moved my book to the C by using the author's name. That leaves us with R to complete our first pass through the word. Also, I elected to fill the letter and leave the genre book open as that will be easier to fill.
Let me know what else you're reading and I'll find a place for it!

Sorry about that, Cassie. I need to read the instructions more carefully...

No worries, the author names worked! And I've done challenges in other groups where they accept any word, so it's any easy thing to miss.
I'll add Rusty Nailed :)
Hi all! Just checking in.Question about the rules. After we do the first spell-it out, there are no bonus points for completing the word. So do we get the extra 10 points for reading a book that meets one of the letters, no matter what the letter is? For example, if we all just read books that fit under M, would they be 10 points each? This is my first team challenge, so I want to make sure I understand.
Anyway, I'm planning to start Rebecca tomorrow. :-) I'm also planning to do a second one, TBD.
Thanks for leading, Cassie!
Hi Kaitlin,
One you have finished the word you can re-read it for extra points, but you would need to re-read the word ROMANCE, not just the letters, so only one "m" would count until you had all the letters to make the word again, and then you could re-read a third time for another "m". I hope that makes sense

Welcome, welcome!
I'll get Rebecca and Rueful Death added above.
Kaitlin, just let us know whenever you decide on the next book. :) I have a few of my own that are in progress and I'm unsure which I'll finish this week, so I know how it is!
Also, Corey put together a lovely spreadsheet for us, so that will be added to the tracking post above as well. (Thanks Corey!)
Thanks for clarifying, Karen!I actually don't have anything much in progress; I was planning to pick my next read based on what we need for the group. Off to read!
I have completed The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. I have shelved it and updated it on the spreadsheet.

Don't worry, I am checking the other teams too and sneakiness goes both ways. I have to keep them motivated after the initial rush of starting is over ;)
Also, in the spirit of good sportsmanship, I don't think you have to have a separate book for the genre. It can be one you are already reading for the spell out.Great spreadsheet!
Thanks, I received inspiration from you, I was just heading over to let you know, but here you are. That would be good, I'll see if Karen can confirm that for us.
Not only do I get to see how many books other teams have planned, it sure adds books to my ever growing TBR.
Nope, I've updated the spreadsheet. Not sure if Cassie has plans to update the Week 1 thread, but that's all you need to do.

Thanks for pointing that out TC! I assumed it meant a separate book in the rules...
I just downloaded Insurgent by Veronica Roth (Characters include: Tobias Eaton, Caleb Pryor, Marcus Eaton) and the Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker(Characters include: Avram Meyer, no other characters have a name that works that isn't A or M)on audiobook that I hope to be able to listen to over this next week as well (hopefully I can find the time, I'm only in the car 10 hours a week, lol only.)
Here's our current update: Assuming Corey can find the time in his ten hours to finish those books (lol), we are missing O, N, and C from our second time through.Let me know if you find anything that fits one of those!
Also as a side note...I know these challenges can get competitive, but if real life jumps up and you can't get to something, no worries! Just let us know and we'll switch it up. That's the beauty of teamwork!
Finished Rebecca. Surprised it's classified as a Romance (as there's barely even any hand-holding and exactly one kiss, forget the rest), but if it counts, who am I to argue? It's more of a gothic suspense. Really cool book.In case you need to rejigger things, Maxim de Winter is the main character (other than the narrator, who is never given a name, except when she marries and becomes Mrs. de Winter).
Ooh, I also have C covered! I didn't realize before that main characters counted. I finished Girl in Translation this morning. The main character is Kimberly Chang. So that counts, right?
