Color Challenge - 2018
Just completed my 2nd #4 (red) - The Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. I was so confused with this book. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, and the author just took this book in a really odd direction. I liked that we finally figured out the crossing - I had my suspicions. But I definitely left the book feeling more confused and not incredibly excited to read the final installment. Worth reading but only if you can't stop reading a series like me. 3 stars19/45

Just completed my 2nd #1 (white) - The Fate of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. This series was not entirely nonredeemable. True, the author took some really sick turns and there were still major gaps in her plot line at the end. But I liked the inevitable conclusion of what would a truly good citizen give up to ensure that their beloved country was able to survive and thrive. That ending saved the series for me. It contained real emotion. But some of the twisted stuff in the middle was unnecessary and distracted from the overall plot. Worth reading but be warned. 3.5 stars20/45

Just completed my 2nd #4 (orange) - The Stars Are Legion by Kameron Hurley. I am not this author's target audience. For the first half of the book, the only thing that kept me reading was that it was a selection for my book club. It bothered me that the author focused so much on creating the atmosphere of the book at the beginning that she lost substance in the plot and characters. It got slightly better in the last half of the book, and at the end, I could almost admire what she created. It raised the rating from 2 to 3 stars. I did not enjoy this book and don't recommend it, but there were some interesting moments, so for die-hard sci fi fans, this might be your book.21/45

Question about covers. I the book I just started reading has green, however when I logged it as a current the book cover on goodreads is different than mine. Which cover do we go by

Just completed my 2nd #8 (dark blue) - The Lying Game by Ruth Ware. I really enjoyed Ware's writing in this book! I remember liking her first book - it was a good debut - but her writing has really improved. The characters were interesting, and I liked them with all their complications. While there could have been a touch of editing some of the extraneous bits (like all the times she talked about the brightness of the sun), I really enjoyed the book overall. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars22/45

Just completed my 2nd #12 (metallic) - The Traitor Prince by C.J. Redwine. Most of my lack of enjoyment of this book has to do with this being one of my least favorite fairy tales. I hate the impostor scenario. Redwine's writing and characters were interesting and well-thought out. A bit of editing could have helped with some of the repetitiveness, but overall, a tight story. Worth reading. 3.5 stars23/45

Just completed my 2nd #6 (green) - Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. I really enjoyed the writing! Add to that it was set in a high school in the late-90's, which is when I was in high school, and she did a great job of portraying it! Characters were interesting and complex, and I didn't find the story to be predictable. Definitely worth reading! 5 stars24/45

Just completed my 2nd #9 (purple) - The Second Summer of the Sisterhood by Ann Brashares. Really well-done sequel to the first Sisterhood book! The author managed to pick up where the first book left off and quickly update the reader while getting to the story. Good character development. There was a bit of teen angsty in this book, but not quite as much as some YA includes. Definitely worth reading! 4 stars25/45
