SOLVED. hitchhiker stopped by policeman, pickpockets him [s]

had a library teacher at school who would read to us. he read a lot of roald dahl so i thought maybe this book was but i dont think so. i just remember 2 guys are sitting in a car and the one guy is making the other guy guess what he does for a living. then he shows him that he is a pickpocket by taking things like his wallet, watch , shoelaces without barely moving..... be great if someone knew what book this was. thanks!!
