2018 Clear That Bookshelf Challenge

We are all basically addicted to books. It's okay to admit it; there are worse things to be addicted to. Throughout the years, we find ourself purchasing, receiving and inheriting more books than we have time to read and enjoy! It is time to hunker down and read the adventures on our shelves.

Challenge Dates: Kick-off is now with no defined end date

Challenge Goal: Read all unread books on one of your bookshelves...or the books in that giant, ever-growing stack by your dresser...or that box of books that you have not opened since leaving for college.

Challenge Details:
- Take a picture of one of your bookshelves/stacks/boxes/etc. which contain at least a handful of unread books. Post the photo to this challenge board.
- Each time you finish a book from the shelf, comment on the board to earn points!
- Each time you finish a shelf, comment on the board to earn EXTRA points! And do a victory dance...seriously.

Potential FAQs:
1. What happens if I don't have a giant stack of books dying to be read because I am awesome and actually read my books in a timely fashion?
First off, you ARE a badass. I hope you realize that. Secondly, you can challenge yourself by heading to the library, locating a display of random books and challenging yourself to read all books that are on that display case. Still take a picture and post here so we can cheer you on!

2. What happens if I finish this challenge early?
Onto the next stack of books! Post a new picture and keep enjoying those adventures!

3. Am I allowed to reread books if they are on the shelf?
Hell yes! I am all about the rereads. If this does not appeal to you, though, it is not required to reread books to finish the challenge.

4. Do books tied to other group activities count towards this challenge?
You bet! If they crossover, go for it!

Challenge Points:
Finish a book: 10 POINTS
Submit a little blurb about whether or not you recommend the book: 5 POINTS
Complete a shelf between 5-10 books: 10 POINTS
Complete a shelf between 11-20 books: 25 POINTS
Complete a shelf over 21 books: 45 POINTS

Comment on this thread to earn points! HAPPY READING!

I realized afterwards that I was being rather...ambitious. LOL. I literally just took a screenshot of one of my smaller shelves. I probably won't read everything on there, but will certainly make progress (I HOPE!).

Kindle bookshelves also count, if you prefer to read eBooks!

message 9: by Wonkybadonk (new)

Wonkybadonk | 33 comments I have finished Neutron Star!

Neutron Star (Known Space) by Larry Niven

These stories are a fun blend of diverse aliens and hard science, and Beowulf is funny :) Now I know what a Bandersnatch is!

We are all always overly ambitious in the beginning because when I saw this challenge, my thoughts immediately went to the three huge boxes of books I have under my bed. Obviously now its been 24 hours and I have come to my senses lool but not to worry we will get there eventually.

I think for this challenge I will try to finish all the series Ive started and abandoned throughout the years

I wanna know what a bandersnatch is too! :D I have a feeling this will start seeping into our everyday conversations lol

Continuing different book series is a good idea!

Here is the best walk through that I have seen so far: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I hope this helps! Let me know if there are questions though...I can hopefully clarify a bit more. :)

Wonkybadonk | 33 comments Is this one your shelf image?

To embed you just need to put a less than sign at the beginning and a greater than sign at the end of the following:

img src="https://images.gr-assets.com/photos/1...

That link just came from your photo, right click and copy link :) Does that help?

It's okay, Wendy! :D Zech had to help me do it the first time too. I just get lucky because I live with someone who likes all this code-y sorta stuff! But we see your shelf, so have no fear!

These shelves are looking aweeeeeeeeeeeesome!!

Also! Finished the first book on my shelf today....totally counting this as my Rainbow Challenge book too. Gotta be strategic. :D

More Than You Can Chew was very, very good. Not a difficult read, but dang. Sad as heck and dealt with some serious issues. Glad I picked it up.

message 25: by Little Bee (new)

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments Thanks lol :) not sure why the Luna figure is right there. HP has their own shelves. Lmao

message 26: by Sainabou (new)

Sainabou LOVE these shelves!

Wendy I have no clue what Sam and Hubby are doing either hahahh I envy you guys

I usually use Photobucket, it will take longer most likely but I am crap at technology so I need steps
So you basically upload a picture there and it will generate a HTML link for you and so you just copy and paste that here http://photobucket.com/

message 27: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Wow, so I just popped on here on my laptop instead of my phone and realized the pics were A LOT bigger than they were showing on my phone. You're certainly ambitious, Sam haha. I see some books there that are on my TBR! Astrophysics for People in a Hurry (although I don't know if it will be over my head or not), Ready Player One (so many recommendations, plus the movie coming out), and The Martian (on route to me as we speak)!

Wendy- I hear so many good things about the Illuminae series! I can't wait to read it.

Bridgett- I love your beauty and the beast funko pops!

I'll post my book shelf soon!

message 29: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris bookshelf_1

Looking from Matilda to The Call of the Wild, I've already read 7 of these, so that leaves 13 in the picture that I still need to read!

message 30: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Also, let's all have a moment of silence for my poor copy of Congo. My dog thinks books are tasty...

I LOVE The Witches. It is seriously my favorite Roald Dahl book. The movie is creepy as all get out. It scared the crap out of me as a child. I love watching it whenever I see it available.

HAHA! Ohhhhh, poor Congo! My cat started nomnoming on the pages of my book the other day. No reason. :D I guess our weird animals thing our books are delicious!

That is a nice looking shelf you have there! I LOVEEEEEED The Doll People! That was a favorite of mine waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day! And Ella Enchanted there. Man, good shelf!

message 33: by Little Bee (new)

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments I guess you could say...they have a taste for literature.....lol *dad jokes*

message 34: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris lol! I love it ^-^

The Witches was really good! My husband said he watched the movie when he was a kid and that it was really scary. I haven't seen it yet but I am running off to add it to my queue on netflix now!

And The Doll People was one of my favorite books when I was younger too! I loved it so much. I really need to reread it sometime.

message 35: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Is anyone else's bookshelf a hot mess like mine? I had to remove a layer of books just to take that pic haha

message 36: by Little Bee (new)

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments Elizabeth— if it’s not on Netflix it’s on Amazon Prime. I just saw it lol

message 37: by The Dust Bunny Reader, Headmistress (new)

The Dust Bunny Reader (thedustbunnyreader) | 1086 comments Mod
Haha! Dad jokes for the win :D

And YES! I removed the front layer of books before taking the picture of my ambitious shelf. And don't even get me started on the dust layer that was removed as well LOL

message 38: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Norris Oh I know lol. There was dust on mine too, but most notably a secret stash of MY stuff behind the first layer of books that my toddler had hidden in there. I found an incense burner, a mockingjay pendant, a rock/paper weight, and some other things. It’s scary having a 2.5 year old in reach of my books 😬

Wonkybadonk | 33 comments I've finished Ringworld!

Ringworld (Ringworld #1) by Larry Niven

I liked this book primarily because it was full of really interesting hard sciencey stuff to try and visualize on gigantic scales, and the situational character interactions were hilarious. Nessus and Speaker make the book!

Wonkybadonk | 33 comments I've finished Protector!

Protector (Known Space) by Larry Niven

This book was mindbendingly good! If I say too much it will spoil it, but it's a great read that has a lot of fun science and anthropology!

message 42: by Sainabou (new)

Oh wow that cover!

message 48: by Little Bee (new)

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments It is pretty good. It is kind of at lull moment though. Right around the middle, it is stagnant. I feel like we should be at the meat and potatoes of the story and we are still really at the beginning. I am on page 171 of 389. Hopefully soon...I had wanted to finish it by today and I just dont think that is going to be possible.

message 49: by Little Bee (new)

Little Bee (littlebeesreads) | 199 comments Just finished Of Fire and Stars. It was a slow burn, but in the end was worth it. The last 80ish pages were a whirlwind of emotion. OMG. If you read this book, then keep with it even in the lull moments!! For a while it stagnated, but then BOOM! Shit hit the fan and my chest felt like it was being crushed and my heart ripped out and apart. I would recommend!

Off to the next book
