Check out the main challenge thread. In there, Janice has clarified on plurals and compound words in msg 7.

The task doesn't specify, so I think you're safe.

I won't get mad. :)

For your questions about Sean Penn and Glenn Close - sub-titles are addressed in the instructions as disallowed, so the answer is no.

Ralph Fiennes acted in a movie titled Sunshine. Your selection is an exact match so it is accepted. BTW, I really enjoyed that book.

Aquarius with magic theme - both books work.

Profile of ugly man will work.

Re: Keeping Faith - I can't tell from the book blurb what the book is about. It's too difficult for me to make a ruling on it.

Both books with water and fire are pretty obvious, so yes to both.

Judging from your questions, I think you've got a pretty good idea of what's required. I think you're making some great choices. Just relax, and go with your gut feeling. Ask for a ruling if there's something that really has you stumped.

It will work, even though it's itty bitty teeny weeny.

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Jannene wrote: "Will this cover work for the profile picture Those Girls by Chevy Stevens? One looks like it is a profile."

The one in the top left corner is kind of a partial profile. The other two are not. Since I approved Laura's ugly man, with is a similar partial profile, I'll approve this one.

Yes, I don't know how I even discovered it in the first place. I guess, whilst searching books for a cover-challenge, the eye-sight increases. ;)

message 214: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Thank you Janice. :)

I have one more question. After I have read 1 book for each sign and start with the books for the second badge can I use some of the same categories I have used for the first badge? For example, I have found 2 books with a weapon on the cover for Scorpio Stone. Can I use one of these for the first badge and the second for the second badge?

message 215: by Ben (last edited Nov 30, 2017 01:29AM) (new)

Ben (basebox) do you have to read all 12 within one of the zodiac rounds to be eligible for a badge or can it be 12 from any of them?

**Edit** Sorry - just seen the section that explains it.

So really we need to market this to optometrists instead of those annoying letters and numbers charts.

You can only do each task the once. For badge two, you would need to choose a different category than the one you read for badge one.

Sorry for the brain teasers. Somehow I thought "Option 2" was adaptation from movie to book. Duh!

I may keep Sex and the City anyway..because of matching title.

Thanks for your patience on this one. I misinterpreted.

message 225: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments No worries, Almeta. I hope I didn't sound cranky because I was actually chuckling at your question.

Candace Bushnell's book, Sex in the City, was what the movie was based on, so it's Option 1.

Jannene | 3124 comments I hate to ask but...does it have to be the main character or one of the main characters? We were going to use gandalf as he is 2000 years old. I wouldn’t want to live even a quarter of that.
Leo – Kraven the Hunter
- One of Kraven’s powers is longevity. Read a book where the main character is over 60 years old.

You're in luck - Bilbo is 60. Aragorn is 87. Both Gandalf & Legolas are over 2000, and Gimli is 139. There is no single main character in the book, and I think there are enough of the main characters older than 60 to qualify.

Laura (lauradragonchild) Do re-reads stand for the challenge?

And does The Elephant Man go for John Hurt or Glenn Close (aquarius or pisces)?

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am probably over thinking this, because I am almost brain dead from gophering tonight after work.

You wrote "Read a book about the American Civil War, or about the Napoleonic War."

Does it have to be about or can it be set during? example Cold Mountain

Yes, you may re-read a book for the challenge.

The Elephant Man would work for John Hurt, but not for Glenn Close.

Temeraire goes for that!!! Yeay!!! I thought it may not since it's some alternate history.

message 240: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Unfortunately for me, I've read all of the Temeraire books, sob, sob, sob!

I will check out my next Aubrey/Maturin series book to see where it is, or read the book I put in my post. Besides Gone with the Wind, I have never really delved into many Civil War novels. I can recall seeing lots of movies, though. One with William Holden and John Wayne comes to mind. I can look at their filmography links. I never would have thought of it before. Brilliant!

Oh, and while I am thinking about it, I was looking at the Listophia links for vehicles on the covers and added the the book I just finished two weeks ago and another to the list with pink covers. I know we use the lists a lot, but I seldom think of giving back for the next challenge.

So for clarification: it doesn't have to be a non fiction about the american civil war/ napolionic wars? It can be a fiction book as long as it has that setting. Am i right?

message 243: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments Cherie, if you feel like reading non-fiction for the civil war task, Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War was really good.
Other I have read and enjoy (fiction) Lincoln in the Bardo (brilliant!), Cold Mountain and My Name is Mary Sutter

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Another civil war book: The Widow of the South.

message 247: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments I had to check in my shelves, Peggy, because I couldn't remember its title. And I just realized a sequel is being published next February, WINTER SISTERS. It doesn't look very appealing, though.

message 248: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I was trying to remember something about the book that could help me search for it, but all I could come up with was a hospital. And I was on my phone, so not so easy to look through my shelves.

I think I was a bit disappointed by My Name is Mary Sutter. I read the blurb for Winter Sisters but I think I'll wait until it's been reviewed properly before adding it.

message 249: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments I enjoyed it in general. Probably the fact that it was a book club discussion helped.

Janice, The Widow of the South looks good, but I see you are not so sure about his historically accurate it is. I hate when that happens with HF novels.
