Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Cherie wrote: "@ Janice- I thought you said you liked it. Re A Sudden Light???"

I liked it very much. In fact, I gave it 5 stars. But I read it 2 years ago and the time setting is vague in my memory. After your question, I read the book blurb and it specified 1990.

message 554: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments LOL! Okay.

A Sudden Light is on my wish list se as soon as i see it in a deal I will buy it. I try to minimise my "non deal" book buying. I can get The Postman from the library ;-)

I'd say that it's only about 50% pink, so not enough."

Thanks, Janice.

Lisette (illusie) Janice wrote: "Lusie wrote: "Does this book count for significant fire on cover?

Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5) by Sarah J. Maas"

It will work."

Yay! I'm happy to hear that. I might be able to fit the whole series in this challenges. Thanks :)

Lisette (illusie) I'd like to use this book, but there is only available as a kindle book. May I use it?

Meriel’s Guide to Unpredictable Seals by Rosemary Carr 239 pages

message 560: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Yes, you may Lusie.

Katrisa | 4498 comments For the Legal thriller category can we use true crime books?
This is the one I was thinking of A False Report A True Story of Rape in America by T. Christian Miller

Sarah | 18550 comments Katrisa wrote: "For the Legal thriller category can we use true crime books?

Pretty sure the genre "legal thriller" is dedicated to fiction books but Janice will give you a ruling.

message 563: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Personally, I agree with Sarah's comment that a legal thriller would be fiction. However, the task criteria reads, "- The scales of justice: Read a legal thriller using this Genre page as a tool https://www.goodreads.com/genres/lega.... Explain how your book fits this genre."

If you can find that book on that page or linked from that page, you can use it. You will need to explain how it fits.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have a question, Janice. I've had a quick scan through this thread and I don't think this has been asked but I apologise if it has. For the Libra- Azurite task, which is to read a book set during the Renaissance period from 1400-1700, does the entire book have to be set during that period or only some of it? I have just started Court of Lions which I thought would fit, but it turns out it's a duel timeline novel, with some of it set in the late 1400s and the rest in the modern day. Can I use it for this task?

message 573: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments If it's at least 50% set in the Renaissance period, I'll accept it.

Amanda | 1811 comments When is Infinite Jest set? Does it work for "book set between 1977 and 2000"? I'm trying to look it up and getting weird answers.

lol! It's set in the clouds!☻

Libra – Air
- Read a book with a significant amount of clouds on the cover.

message 577: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments We must be the object of the jest, because I don't know what time period it's set in, either. Unless someone who has read the book and can confirm the time period, you'll have to go back to gophering. Sorry.

No problem, thanks! It's just been on my Kindle forever, and I need a reason to read it or I probably won't. :)

message 579: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Maybe a buddy read will get you reading it. Sometimes, it takes a buddy to motivate.

message 580: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19316 comments Hey Janice, how do you want us to handle books read for future badges? For example, I've only read 3 books towards badge 1, but I just finished a book for badge 2. Should I report it, just as I have been for the books for badge 1? Or do you just want us to keep a list somewhere and report the badge 2 books in our thread after we've completed our first badge? Just want to make sure I'm doing whatever is best for your record keeping.

message 581: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments Kristie, check Almeta's thread as example. You just report as "Badge 2, Book 1".

message 582: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Jan 18, 2018 06:34PM) (new)

Kristie | 19316 comments Yes, that's what I figured and probably how she wants it, but I wanted to check that she wants us to do that before we finish badge 1. I want to make it easier for her to keep track. I guess my question wasn't how to report, but when.

message 583: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11475 comments Janice wrote: "Maybe a buddy read will get you reading it. Sometimes, it takes a buddy to motivate."

If Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace will work for Libra – Air
- Read a book with a significant amount of clouds on the cover., I'll Buddy Read it with you Amanda.

What say you Janice, cloudy enough?

message 584: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments You can go ahead and report it now, Kristie. Mark it as Badge 2, Book 1 and you're good to go.

Almeta, looks cloudy to me.

message 585: by Lori (new)

I'm glad you found us Shannon and I hope you enjoy the challenge.

We go with the date you start the challenge, so you will be able to count books from January 19th, but not before.

message 593: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4568 comments Hey Janice, If we read a book out of order for badge 2 do you want us to post it or wait until we are finished with completing badge 1? I didn't know if that would be to confusing for you.

message 594: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Jan 20, 2018 04:29AM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments Jayme, Janice said somewhere to report it now, using a "Badge 2, Book 1" head line.

I just reread the posts and found her answer, too. Probably should have done that first. Thanks, Sandra.

Yes, it will be fine.

message 599: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments new ruling

You may swap books around until you have requested a badge. Once you've completed a badge, those books are frozen and may not be swapped out. Report the swap as below:

REMOVE:
Badge 1
Sign - Capricorn
Task - Stone Quartz
Link - Doomsday Book

And MOVE to:
Badge 2, book 2
Sign - Taurus
Task - Stone Jasper

Badge 1 now has 8 books.
Badge 2 now has 2 books.

Spell it all out for me instead of making me hunt back through prior messages. That's the price you have to pay for swapping. Hehehehe!

message 600: by Cody (new)

Cody | 348 comments I think I know the answer to this but you don't get if you don't ask.

I put down Oathbringer recently at about page 900 /1200 ish. If I picked it back up considering I still have 300 pages left (which probably translates to nearly 400 because of the size of the book) can that count as this years book?
