I hadn't really thought of this eventuality. I'm going to say no. The task reads "unmarried", so I think we'll stick with that. Sorry.

Yes, that definitely has a lot of water on it.

I would think that it qualifies.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Is illness a major theme in A Monster Calls? I know many of you read it. And would it count for horror? It's shelved as such, but I can't imagine it's a real horror story.

I'd say grief was more the theme. Yes there is illness but it wasn't really described all that much. Others might remember differently. I wouldn't call it horror either.

message 506: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments I'll accept it Peggy. It is about grief, but the boy is dealing with his mother's cancer. Her illness is very much a part of his daily life.

Lisette (illusie) Does this book count for significant fire on cover?

Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5) by Sarah J. Maas

message 515: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4568 comments Hi Janice -
Would you accept this cover for the profile picture? The Mothers by Brit Bennett It's kind of hard to make out from the cover because the woman's nose and lips are on the spin of the book.

I'm not sure what is on the cover. If that's a profile, all that is visible is the chin, so I'm going to say no. Sorry.

okey dokey. Does it matter the size of the profile picture? Will this cover work? Nothing to Envy Ordinary Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick The profile in the billboard is what I am referring too.

Margo | 11668 comments Are subtitles allowed for month? e.g. Rosemary and Rue for october?

message 520: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Margo wrote: "Are subtitles allowed for month? e.g. Rosemary and Rue for october?"

There isn't a subtitle for the book, it looks to me like October appears in the series name.

message 521: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Jayme, your second choice with the profile on the billboard will work.

message 522: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Margo wrote: "Are subtitles allowed for month? e.g. Rosemary and Rue for october?"

A general rule for challenges is that sub-titles or series titles don't count unless specified in the task. This task doesn't specify that you may use them. Sorry.

Jayme | 4568 comments Janice wrote: "Jayme, your second choice with the profile on the billboard will work."

Thanks, Janice. I'm reading it in February for my book club and just realized there was a profile on the cover.

I think it's mist rather than clouds. It would fit the Gemini-air task for white cover, though.

Or use it for monthly challenges, they mostly allow subtitles

message 534: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments Next year we should have a task like "a book that didn't fit any task in the last three years".

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Mariab wrote: "Or use it for monthly challenges, they mostly allow subtitles ..."

Ummm - not quite. That rule is pretty consistent throughout our challenges. There have been some challenges where sub-titles have been allowed, but the task has specifically stated that ruling.

Ariane | 947 comments Hello Janice, is this: L'Auberge de la Jamaïque by Daphne du Maurier a significant amount of water on the cover? Thanks

message 538: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments There is water, yes. But I think this book fits the cloud cover task much better.

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Jayme wrote: "Hi Janice, do you think this cover has a significant amount of pink? The Girl in the Tower (Winternight Trilogy, #2) by Katherine Arden Thanks."

I'd say that it's only about 50% pink, so not enough.

It's actually only 24.8% pink according to tineye.

That's what the book blurb reports.
