Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I'm probably the only one here who can be excited about this, but I just learned that Emmi Itäranta has a new book coming out in September! It's called Kuunpäivän kirjeet (Moonday letters), and so far I only see a Finnish edition, but since she translates her own work, I hope and assume there will also be an English edition? It sounds interesting, definitely scifi with colonies in space, a botanist character, and the blurb also talks about language, so I can't wait to read this!

message 252: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments @Anna: you're not the only one! If there is an English translation I'm definitely here for it!

message 253: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Yes Gabi I was thinking you would be interested, but can you be excited for a Finnish edition? :D

message 254: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments weeeell, if I use my lockdown to start learning the language now... LOL!

message 255: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments You have five months! :D

message 256: by Don (new)

Don Dunham I've heard Finnish is complicated.

Just downloaded Aurora Rising :)

message 259: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline | 2428 comments I read Aurora Rising a few weeks ago and loved it. Hopefully the bookshop near the farm has Aurora Burning when I go in there later today. And The Girl and the Stars. They probably won’t have Murderbot though.

And I meant to say I downloaded Aurora Burning🤦🏽‍♀️

message 261: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline | 2428 comments Lol Leonie.

I did pick up Aurora Burning and The Girl and the Stars this afternoon. They didn’t have Network Effect though. I’ll order it when I get back to the Outback maybe.

message 269: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2791 comments Waiting for the second Kyoshi novel: The Shadow of Kyoshi

message 270: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I didn't know Seanan McGuire is now also a MG author with yet another pen name: Over the Woodward Wall by A. Deborah Baker coming out this fall. It sounds cool, I might check it out :)

message 271: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1775 comments @Anna, that book is connected to McGuire’s Middlegame, the mythology and the book itself are an element. I am looking forward to it.

message 272: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Yes, I read that! I haven't read Middlegame yet, but maybe I have to now, just so I can try her MG :D

message 273: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1775 comments I highly recommend Middlegame.

message 274: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I didn't realize The Perfect Assassin trilogy was so close to being finished! I do have the final book on my shelves to keep track, but in my mind it was coming out next year. Yay, I can start it soon.

message 275: by Kaa (new)

Kaa | 1541 comments Sarah Pinsker has a new book coming out next year, We Are Satellites! I haven't read her first novel yet - it wasn't quite my thing even before the pandemic rendered it too relatable - but I love her short fiction and this one sounds interesting.

message 276: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Ooh, added to the TBR!

message 277: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Remote Control has a cover! I hope this means that the (January 2021) release date is also accurate, this seems to have been pushed further and further for a very long time. I keep seeing it at the top of my new-standalones queue, and then it jumps forward. At one point it had a 2030 release date.

message 278: by Anna (last edited Jun 13, 2020 09:05AM) (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I've stopped reading AdB because for some reason I never fully love her stuff, even when I should. But! I can't stop myself from being excited about Fireheart Tiger, which is described as The Goblin Emperor meets Howl's Moving Castle in a precolonial Vietnamese setting.

message 279: by Meredith (last edited Jun 13, 2020 08:51AM) (new)

Meredith | 1775 comments I just preordered The Relentless Moon, next in Mary Robinette Kowal's Calculating Stars series. It comes out next month!

edit: Anna, I agree Fireheart Tiger looks soooo good!

message 280: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I'm excited for more Lady Astronaut!

message 281: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2791 comments Anna wrote: "I'm excited for more Lady Astronaut!"

She's going to read some chapters in TorCon (live now!)

message 282: by Kaa (new)

Kaa | 1541 comments I LOVE AdB and hadn't heard about Fireheart Tiger yet. So excited!

message 283: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Wayfarers 4 has a title and pub date!

The Galaxy, and the Ground Within

message 284: by Raucous (new)

Raucous | 888 comments Is it just me or are these titles getting more obscure? This one sounds like it could use one of those "stranded along the highway" country western laments as background music. Still I'm looking forward to it.

message 285: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I don't think Becky Chambers will ever be able to publish a book with a normal/short title! Even her upcoming Monk&Robot novellas are titled like that.

message 286: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1602 comments Mod
I love her titles!! They are part of what makes the books engaging. Plus I have a thing for interesting titles.

message 287: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I like them too! I just wasn't expecting *all* her books to be titled in this way, I thought it was a Wayfarers thing.

message 288: by Anna (last edited Jul 03, 2020 02:10AM) (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments ”Bread Wizard” finally has a release date! ❤️ It’s about a girl whose familiar is a sourdough starter and she can only work magic on bread. I cannot wait!!!

A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher

I love the angry gingerbread man on the cover 😄

message 289: by Hans (last edited Jul 03, 2020 02:25AM) (new)

Hans | 189 comments Peace Talks by Jim Butcher, now that is is almost here.
Also, The Trouble with Peace by Joe Abercrombie and Ballistic Kiss by Richard Kadrey (probably the final one in the series?)

I'm also carefully optimistic about Ink & Sigil by Kevin Hearne after the inglorious ending of the Iron Druid Chronicles.

message 290: by Raucous (new)

Now I'm feeling guilty that we retired our sourdough starter a few weeks ago. I'm still looking forward to the book.

message 292: by Brick (new)

Brick Marlin I'm waiting for this release, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. I haven't read anything by the author but after watching him speak about his writing and his stories, I'm giving him a try.

message 293: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Raucous and Gabi, wanna BR Bread Wizard? 😊 I bet it’ll be a thread full of glee and squee!

message 294: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments Anna wrote: "Raucous and Gabi, wanna BR Bread Wizard? 😊 I bet it’ll be a thread full of glee and squee!"

If I can get it, gladly! So far it doesn't show up on amazon.de

message 295: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments It's not on Amazon US yet either, but surely it'll turn up soon!

BTW does everyone know that Ursula Vernon's Patreon supporters get her self-pub ebooks for free? I always buy them anyway, because I love her so much and want to support her, but if someone is unable to purchase them elsewhere, this is an option!

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Ursula Vernon / T. Kingfisher (or emus) nor do I get paid to plug her wonderful stuff (or emus).

Cozy Fantasy is a thing now?

message 297: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I'd call it fluffy! I'm expecting severed heads at the very least!

message 298: by Kaa (new)

Kaa | 1541 comments Aliette de Bodard has a novella coming from Tor.com, Fireheart Tiger. The comps are The Goblin Emperor and Howl's Moving Castle, so I'm especially excited!

message 299: by Conal (new)

Conal (conalo) | 85 comments Release date is set for Ready Player Two. Can't wait for this one...

Meredith | 1775 comments Kate Elliot's Unconquerable Sun is out today. Gender-swapped Alexander the Great in Space!

I really enjoyed the world Elliot built in Cold Fire (I really need to finish that series) so I am excited to see what she does here.
