Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Desley If your mattress feels really hard you could perhaps put a memory foam topper on or a duvet if you’ve got a spare one to soften it a bit.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Memory foam toppers are the best thing ever.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Had to go to be early last night, was really stiff and achy about 7pm. Lucy did end up making me sleep in the middle of the bed. Went in the office this morning, just to get some printing done, but planning on working from home the rest of the week, that way I have the routine/distraction of work, but don’t have to be sociable if I don’t want! I’ve also e-mailed Age UK, as I should have rang my telephone friend on Fri, but obviously couldn’t, and can’t face explaining why I haven’t been in touch, so have asked them to get a message to her, and I’ll ring her later in the week.

Funnily enough, I did say to my neighbour yesterday that I might get a memory foam topper – I appreciate what she is saying that it must be good if I don’t wake up stiff and achy, but I like the idea of something slightly comfier!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Desley, my sis in law ended up getting memory foam mattresses for all of them in the sale a few years back because they were dead cheap. Their spare bed is a complete dream. I'm thinking about a topper myself but I have an electric blanket on for an hour and a half after I get into bed and I don't think I could do without that.

Cheers

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments So very sorry to hear your news, Desley. Please accept my condolences on the sad loss of your mum. take care xxx

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Memory foam is great but does keep you very hot :)

Had to drive to Aberdeen yesterday to see husband's consultant. Six plus hours driving REALLY isn't my idea of a good time, especially in the monsoon conditions we had on the way back. Add to that the local traffic/tractors and lack of sliproads on the A90 north of Arbroath which I hate at the best of times. Never been so happy to get home

message 14507: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've just had a root canal. Which was preferable to your drive Nosemanny. :)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I've never had a filling so I don't really know, but I hope your dental treatment didn't last hours!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Feel quite drained today, snoozed my alarm twice as I’m working from home. Got to go to my sister’s after work as it’s my niece’s first birthday tomorrow, can’t see much celebrating happening. When I was chatting to one of the colleagues who got me the flowers, she said she didn’t know much about flowers, so she just asked her to make it as purple as possible!

Thanks Kelly, much appreciated. That doesn’t sound fun at all R. Ouch Patti

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My daughter has been to the vets, fracture clinic and the doctors that’s all in the last week - track and trace app has sent her an advice she’s got to self isolate for 9 days. There’s an offer of a test - they wanted her to go to a test centre. How do you do that if you’re self isolating. She’s still not allowed to drive so no car sharing, taxi or public transport if you’re self isolating
. They have agreed to send her a home test. Some of these rules are really well thought out -NOT.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments My sis spoke to the hospital yesterday, all my mum’s covid tests have come back negative (apparently they test you after death as well, even if the one when you were alive was negative – makes you wonder if that is why our numbers are so high), so the official cause of death is CoPD, despite her having had a mini stroke, which is why she went in hospital. Turns out the consultant was checking her when she went, so at least someone was with her. Lucy started with a bit of cystitis yesterday, I woke her up at 4, so then she started fussing in the litter tray, so didn’t really get back to sleep after that, luckily I have what the vet would prescribe in the house, and started it yesterday, so I rang them just to check if I was OK to do that again today with her kidney issues, and they are fine to wait till tomorrow and since then she’s had two fairly normal size wees’ half an hour apart, so hopefully we won’t have to go to the vets tomorrow. Good job as I’ve got a stiff neck again, but the other side, so putting drops in is painful. I’m really not sure why I thought working today was a good idea, rather than going back to bed!

That is a bit bonkers Lynne! Does the Welsh lockdown affect you coming home?

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I hope not Desley. We’ve just made travel bookings. We know we’ve got to do 14 days quarantine when we get home, but that’s ok. We can do that. I don’t think they can stop you coming home.
I’ll be out of Beta blockers soon so I can genuinely say I have medical reasons for getting home.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Slept till 5.30 this morning, but having issues keeping the sheet on the mattress, will try and get round to putting the mattress protector on it. Woke up and my eye was uncomfortable and looked red, so was thinking I was going to have to go back to the hospital, but it seemed to clear about an hour after my drops. Lucy still isn’t weeing properly, but as she had a normal one yesterday, we can wait till her normal vet is on tomorrow, she only had the last app left though. Means I don’t need to figure it round work, and she is happy in herself, still eating etc, so hopefully I can cancel it, although might still pay for the slot and have a telephone chat about her arthritis.

Fingers crossed Lynne. Thanks Pam

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We’ve got a curfew now after 9 pm for the region. You have to download an attestation if you have to go out or it’s a €135 fine. Billy goes out for a wee walk, it’s allowed but he’ll have to have his attestation.
Hope you and Lucy are feeling better Desley.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Urgh, yesterday ended up an awful day, quite a few tasks ended up being complicated, then my sis decided she wanted to pick songs, so that was an hour on the phone. Eye didn’t feel as good after 3pm drops, so I rang the hospital and luckily they agreed for me to go back a stage and see how I get on. Still not very comfortable today and looks bloodshot so will ring after I’ve been to the vet, as that will be nearly 24 hours. Got a lovely gift from one of my ex colleagues yesterday, but I felt a bit guilty that I’ve had loads of cards and gifts and she was the one who had to deal with her!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Very windy here, went to get a cup of tea at 6.30 and there were a group of people stood outside someone's house being very loud, really don't know what that was all about, especially as she has a baby. Housework day today, it looks even worse after having to move furniture to get Lucy in the cat carrier yesterday, fortunately the cleaner is coming on Mon, so I can be a bit half hearted about it.

Take care everyone. Last day tomorrow then it’s operation time. Bit scared but I know I’m just being a Jessie.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good luck for tomorrow - you’ll walk it Mary 😀
Nice morning here again although rain is forecast. What’s the verdict on downloading the track and trace app. I’m a bit windy as my daughter had it and got an advice to self isolate with a background item saying her postcode area is low risk. I’ve heard from others saying that risk is now high. Is it accurate . I’m away so can’t download it so I’m only asking opinions.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, been up since 5.30, was very wet and windy yesterday, currently bright and raining! More housework today. Neighbour persuaded me to have takeaway yesterday, I was happy as they had new cake

Thanks MT, did dawn on me yesterday I won't be able to go to my favourite market town when I'm off next week, as that is in Tier 2 and we are in tier 3! I'm on the fence about it Lynne as I've heard a lot of people getting false alerts, so will wait till it is more reliable.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Thanks Lynn and Desley, This time tomorrow I will be very much asleep. :-) Unless they're running late. I am going to make sure I have lots to read and am up to date with all the ebooks I've been meaning to buy. I also have a copy of Bill Bryson's 'the human body, a guide for occupants' which I think will be an amusing read but fact packed so I'll only be able to read it in small doses.

Cheers

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Daughters test results said the test was unreadable. They won’t send another and she has to go to Carmarthen. Seeing as she’s supposed to self isolate and can’t drive since she’s had meningitis how is she supposed to travel 40 miles in isolation. What a farce.
There is a testing station at haverfordwest. I’ve heard about it but it’s not advertised. It’s a secret.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Good luck for tomorrow MT. Oh no Lynne. Surely as her husband lives with her he could drive her? Unless Wales are stricter than England

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments You'll be fine Mary xx every day is one nearer your fabby working knee!
The testing system seems to be an absolute shambles Lynne. The state of this country horrifies me. Only bright spot in the future is that Scotland will be off sometime fairly soon :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Managed to re-make the bed yesterday with the mattress protector, and the sheet hasn’t come off yet, so that is promising and it is a cushioned protector, so felt slightly comfier. Doing a full day in the office, then taking the rest of the old bed to the tip and maybe dropping my friends milk off, depends what she has on after work. Was bouncing it down this morning and looked so dark at 8! Took 3 goes to get the thermometor to read my temp this morning though.

message 14527: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Thinking about Mary’s op today. Desley Yes her parter could take her but he’s working so that complicates things a bit. As she’s been in isolation 12 days now I think it’s academic it’s only for the statistics as even positive cases only have to isolate for 14 days.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Spain is in state of alarm.

Sounds worse than it is. Just means we have to stay in between midnight and 6am.
I don't recall the last time we've been out after sunset, never mind midnight.
Off to the dentist this afternoon to have the permanent filling fitted into my root canal.
Half term here starting tomorrow until Monday. As all local schools and the other international schools aren't off, we're thinking we may go out and look at some touristy stuff, avoiding using the metro during peak times.
So far, be could be anywhere in the world. I'm no idea what to say when asked if I like Madrid.

I have nothing to base an answer on.

I see from Facebook that you're through the surgery Mary. Now rock on with the healing!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Wet and miserable again here, I was lucky last night, it started bouncing down as I left work, but was dry when I got to the tip. Just spoke to my telephone friend, she has got to self isolate due to the woman who drops her shopping off testing positive, even though she doesn’t come in the house, they just exchange a list and some money!

Wonder what would happen if she couldn’t get a test in the 14 day isolation period? Does baffle me that it is 10 days if you have symptoms, but you don’t need to have a negative test to resume normal life! Thanks for the update on MT Patti, fingers crossed for your dental. Sorry that you haven’t been able to explore your new home like normal. I do wonder about midnight to 6am curfews, surely not many people are out at those times anyway?

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments We are going to have our first dinner with fellow residents this Friday - since March!

We are approaching each other with the care of mating porcupines.

It may all be for naught, though, if cases keep rising in our county, aptly named YOLO. But it is some long-ago Native American word, not the internet 'you only live once.'

The virus is alive and well, well, as alive as viruses are (not really), and doing what it does: replicate, and be available to be spread to new hosts by the unwary.

Hope you find things to enjoy in Madrid, Patti. That has to be surreal.

Hope your friend is okay, Desley. Just think, in fourteen days the world may have changed.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments France is really cracking down and announcing further measures tomorrow. OH is already thinking about what we need to do if we’ve got to leave earlier than planned. As usual the dog is the complications. He’s got to have his passport stamped by the vet before we can travel so I’m hoping they don’t close the vets (or the hotel) or we’ll have problems.

message 14532: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I read that France is not doing well. Proportional to their size, they have far more cases than the US - which is also not doing well.

Please stay safe.

Talking to a lad, he's getting the train down to London to help is girlfriend carry her stuff back from Uni.
We might be going to tier 3 (or we might not) or they might just lock the north down. So she wants to get back to her family before the stop her travelling for Christmas. Given she has one face to face class per week, she sees no reason to stay at uni. She can do it from home

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Raining again, the only good thing about the bad weather is it makes it easier to stay in (but harder to exercise!).

It certainly does seem worse this time round. Fingers crossed it doesn’t affect your travel plans too much Lynne. Hope you enjoyed your dinner with company Alicia, and hope it settles enough that you can continue doing that

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Won't be until Friday, and only if our reservation is accepted, but it is something to look forward to, if with a bit of trepidation - thanks!

Considering how many people have gone back to restaurants and bars and having big weddings and such, it is a tiny occurrence, but it is in a group of technically vulnerable people. We're still in a very tight lockdown - because getting the virus is non-trivial in this age and health cohort. Weird.

Even going to the doctor tomorrow feels weird - first in-person visit since before March.

And yet the numbers are of over 225K gone in the US, and over 8.5 MILLION cases. A little daunting.

Stay safe!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We explored Retiro park yesterday. Was so good to be in trees! It was quite quiet and we also avoided anywhere there were groups of people.
Annoying that people who are exercising don't need to wear a mask. I'd hold my breath every time a jogger huffed past.

We then met another couple for a meal. Outdoors and socially distanced. It was lovely!!!!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Panic central here last night as OH decided to go home sooner than planned after M. Macron’s speech to the nation. A few words were spoken but it’s all calmer now. Vets rebooked for tomorrow, hotel for Saturday, no restaurant but a room service plateau and tunnel for Sunday. I’ve packed except for little odds and ends. Just got fridges and food to sort. I’m quite annoyed with myself as I had a Tesco delivery booked for Tuesday and one for the week we should have gone home and i cancelled Tuesdays once we made the other booking. Too bad as we can’t shop or go out and it will be a bit of a challenge but we’ll sort something. I could do with losing some weight. 😁

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Urgh, was tossing and turning from 3.30, my foot was burning a bit from 6. So tired today and my sis has been on the phone a couple of times, the executor is being awkward.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments If you really take the quarantine literally it says you can’t go out to shop not even in emergency - you need to get a delivery or friends to bring it. That’s really quite blasé as deliveries aren’t available at short notice in some areas and not everyone has someone able to shop. My neighbour is over 80. So I wouldn’t dream if asking him, my daughter isn’t fit enough to shop for herself even. We actually have food here we will bring and we will be able to get sorted but it’s really quite callous. Even the dog can’t go out for a walk, we are ok having the garden but if someone lives in a flat they would find it hard going.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, I have a 4 day weekend with very little plans and a weather warning in place! Think it might be a good job I have lots of TV and books, me and Lucy might have to snuggle. Got woken up at 4.20, struggled to get to sleep, and I have a doc app at 9.50, so can't have too much of a lie in. Going to look at the charity shops and get a hot choc on the way home, and a friend is coming at 1 to finally get her milk

Thanks Lisa. Yes, it isn't well thought out Lynne, my friend got caught out, she couldn't get a shop for 3 days, but luckily I was able to get her a few bits to tide her over. It is part of the reason why I've started buying UHT milk, so at least I have something in for an emergency and keeping cupboards and freezer stocked

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Well I’m getting there, his lordship has had his passport stamped, the car is packed to the limit, I’ve emptied the fridge, mostly onto my plate. Everything is sorted for leaving the place locked up for winter. The roofers start next week but we won’t be here, I’m amazed at my OH doing that but that’s what he’s done.
When I see all the contraventions to the rules like those demonstrations in the streets in London it makes me wonder why we bother sticking to the rules. It really has divided society,
We’ve had to fill in an attestation every time we go out, but I nipped to the recycling to dump my bin bag without filling one in.
You can download it to your phone and tick the box for the reason you are leaving the house.
No tick boxes for I’m just off to decapitate some innocent souls though 🤬

Very little to do again, and wet and windy here, so hopefully watching TV/reading with Lucy, she did ignore me till 1.30 yesterday! I had a letter from our chairman yesterday, thanking me for the voluntary work I'd done while on furlough, I must remember to send a thank you e-mail

Fingers crossed the roofers do things right seeing as you won't be there to supervise Lynne!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m at the hotel, it’s really quiet. I think there’s only 6 cars in the car park and it’s usually full at a holiday weekend. We’ve had a meal on trays in our room. I’m just grateful the hotel is open at all. As it’s a long journey without a stop and i did not want to arrive in Calais in the dark. That autoroute into calais can be very dangerous at night. All sorts happening. We saw a lorry driver chucking people out of his trailer first thing this morning and they were running about the motorway. We missed the shooting in Lyon thank
goodness as we went through earlier. It’s like the Wild West somedays.
Our neighbours next door and the chap across the road will all keep an eye and send photos but he has got a really good reputation and dies all the village roofs. I’m glad I’m not there to clean up as well.

Safe journey Lynne

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, the weather got so bad at one point yesterday that I could see my neighbours cat wanted to go in, but when I opened my door it was like a sheet of rain, so I shut it and rang her instead! Did dry up late afternoon, but now wet and windy again, so don't think I'm going to the craft fair I wanted to. Did find yesterday's announcement a bit depressing, just trying to think that we have got through it once, and this time we know it is only for a month. Think I might have a bit of a pamper session later to cheer myself up.

Hope you have a safe journey today Lynne

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Hope your journey is safe and uneventful Lynne.

Food shopping later, I wanted Italian for tea, but we only discovered after tea last night that the place my neighbour had found doesn't open on a Mon, she suggested the pub up the road, but I have my heart set on pizza now, so hopefully will get one while out.
