Pop in for a chat!
Yet again, I wonder why I make plans! Got a phone call saying neighbour was meeting her son at a massive Asda if I wanted to go with them, obviously I said yes, but managed to restrain myself and not buy much. We did pop in a little bakery on the way for cake, and Costco on the way back, again I was restrained and bought nothing! We got caught in heavy rain at Costco, but now cleared, although doubt it will stay dry looking at the sky. Obviously not got my housework done, but always tomorrow. Would be nice to get the new kettle set up.
Any excuse not to do housework sound good to me Desley! 👍🙂

Heavy rain on Thursday this week, drier yesterday but the wind is back since last night.

Horrendous day here today. Much windier than last weekend and intermittent violent squalls of hail and sleet. Didn't go out much!
well at least it's merely raining at the moment but looks to be about to pass over
Just light rain at the moment, they did say yesterday the river levels were going to peak between 7 and 10am today, apparently it might stop raining at 4pm! At least the wind has died down, when we got back yesterday, I had to retrieve cans and cardboard off the street. I did get all the kitchen stuff out of the boxes, I'm glad I listened to my neighbour about the scales, but wish I hadn't on the plates and bowls, and just got yellow rather than half and half. Will be nice to have a toaster again.
Still a cold wind here - and we've lost a tree! Be glad to see the Spring,
It was fucking windy and the field we were on was boggy plough! Managed two and a half hours, found nothing much, right metals, wrong things, and will probably not be able to walk tomorrow. Still enjoyed myself though.Have to go have a tetanus shot tomorrow - or check if I'm up to date - as I got bitten by a mouse last week. Ho hum ...
On the upside, book four audio ... bloody hell. Either I write a lot better than I think, or Gareth has buffed that turd to a mirror shine! Mwahahahargh!

You kind of get past it but it never goes away. Readers are kind of removed but when someone is going over it in detail with you it's almost like writing it all over again. Especially when they are clearly very talented at what they do and you're feeling a little star stuck. So part of it is, kind of, bloody hell did I write this? And part of it is kind of thinking, shit! This stuff came out of my brain people are going to think I'm damaged, at best and at worst that I'm a threat to society and should be locked up. Especially some of the Lord Vernon bits. Fuckorama he's vile. 😲 I guess I exorcised a lot of sadness about real life in those books and it shows.
Also, the circumstances of my life mean I'll never quite know if I'm a pro, myself, no matter how bloody minded I am about it because I don't have time to do a job so there's always a feeling that I am a bit of an imposter. Then again, I'm reading A Slip Of The Keyboard and it's very clear that Terry Pratchett felt like that too. He talks about standing in the loo in BA first class on a flight to Australia, looking at himself in the mirror and thinking, 'fuck what am I doing here?' so I guess I'm in good company because that would be me. 🤣🤣

G'day! Busy weekend, cooking and entertaining etc. We also lost our last chicken to old age on Saturday - at almost 8, she did extremely well for a hybrid. The garden will seem empty without her. We're not getting any more. Now our grandchildren live so far away it's a faff getting someone to look after them while we're visiting.Had two short stories accepted for an anthology due out this summer. Wow! I'll let you all know when it's out.
Wet again, lots of water pooling on the way to work, worst bit was our lane, and just gone to see someone to discover the stream that runs behind our building is at the highest level I’ve seen it at. Managed to drag myself into work early, and I’m off tomorrow. Hope you don't need a tetanus jab MT! Forgot yesterday R,I like the idea of not dusting, although to be fair it's one of the things I leave for the cleaner! Sorry to hear about your chicken Kath, don't blame you for not getting any more. Great news about the shorts.

Busy weekend repairing the almost antique roof on the lower barn. Then last night rudely awakened about 12.30 by a vixen yelling for a mate close to our bedroom window. The dogs were not impressed.
Off today so obviously up early! So far we've had snow and hail, hope it doesn't affect plans any more, we've already had to cancel lunch as my neighbours physio got moved from Thu to today. At least it means I'll get to the coffee shop for that sandwich.
Absolutely freezing here. Just finished listening to the fourth book. Totally blown away by the whole thing. And now, it's time to have lunch.Morning all.

Well, that was my idea of a good day, up early enough to lounge round with the cats for a bit, get some chores done, nice food and then out for a few hours with my neighbours, I even got some reading done while we were out. Did plan on getting a mushroom and spinach bagel from the coffee shop, but they were doing pancakes! When I said I didn't like the banana and Nutella they had been making, they offered to make me a biscoff one, very yummy, although 4 scotch style pancakes is too much for me. I did decide I didn't need a flavoured hot choc as well. Didn't buy as much as I thought I would either.
Snow didn’t really happen, although some of the hills are white. We have had some odd conditions in the past half hour, we’ve gone from blue skies to pathetic snow, but windy, so it’s blowing around the place. Was supposed to have a full day meeting, but boss was called into a different meeting this morning and decided at 12.30 we would cancel today, didn’t see the point in it anyway! A colleague said something earlier that I’m going to take as a compliment, she said I’m good at drawing information out of people, suspect that was really handy while I was doing home visits! We have decided to put bottles of hand sanitizers on reception for people to take because of the coronavirus risk, am sure it is unnecessary.

Just been manically busy
Had to go to bed really early last night, felt unwell and was very tired, feel much better today, although could probably go to sleep again! Woke up to snow, was more just an annoying amount to take off the car, although it looked really pretty at work. Even though we’ve had a bit since, it has now pretty much melted and we have blue skies. Do need to ring the dentist, my crown is annoying me again, but the fix is removing it and root canal treatment. Noticed this morning, health and safety have put hand sanitisers in the kitchen and toilets, am sure the water and hand washes in there are better!
Manically busy here too, Jim. Lots of reviewing - my purchases and Amazon Vine. I'm also tidying up my next book. Comments from beta readers - some saying something is good, some not liking it. I'm going to take these like the complaints about BBC bias. There were some who said they favoured the left in the elections, some the right. So it's fair to say they were about right. When two people query something, I go in and wrangle it. I'm at the wrangling stage now!
I've been MIA - have had the flu since Monday.It seems to be getting much better, and yes, I did have the flu shot. I credit the shot with it being milder and shorter than the flu typically is.
But I've had zero energy, and haven't been by most places, and even forget if I already mentioned the flu!
Wash your hands a lot. Stay well. Stay away from people like me, the other ones who don't stay home (I haven't left all week).
Kath and Jim, tell me about it! It's all go.I'm now listening to all the books, in order, all over again, just to double check that I haven't missed anything ... which I have, but no too much. Gareth is on tour until April so I have bags of time to take it slowly. It's even better on the second listen. The short is now available everywhere, which is good. I think I've worked out a sales strategy, too ... and ... there's an also bought for the short on audible, which means someone has bought a copy, I presume. Woot!
Have lots of things to do today but having sat down at the computer I've forgotten what they are. Oops. Some are on the to do list though so maybe the others will surface as I work through the ones I've written down. Beautiful afternoon yesterday but it snowed solidly from about seven until half one or so. Today is a bit bleak here. Driesch. Very busy evening ahead, I will be glad when it's all over, even though it will be fun. McMini's school have managed to arrange every parent teacher evening on the night of a corporate event so far. I have to be Mrs Wife tonight, and I have put on a stone and a half in the last six months (I'd love to know how that happened, but I guess it's down to the closed gym) so my smart casual Corporate Wife kit no longer fits. Oops. Think I've got a back up though. Got my smashed ipad back, so was a bit of a thing as I only sent it in on Monday. Haven't written anything this week, which is a bummer, but I'll be doing a blog post later so that's something ...

We were taking the chance while it's still dry to get a bit of work one in the garden. That's when the postman tried to deliver a parcel! I'll get it redelivered. It's quite a trek to go and pick it up. The latest storm seems to have a name like Huawei!
It has to be a lady name beginning with E ... we reckoned after Brian and Dennis it would be Ethel. 🤣🤣🤣
Apparently it's called Storm Jorge because the Spanish named it. If the Met Office, Met Éireann or KNMI (the Dutch national weather forecasting service) name a storm, they all follow the same list. But the Spanish use a different system
Horrible weather again, we’ve had snow and rain. Not quite sure how we have Storm Jorge, I seem to have missed E, F, G and H! Petrol and food shopping after work, was going to take advantage of the various pet food sales, but have decided I really don’t need any more cat food. Wow, you lot do all sound busy! I think we’re calling it Storm Heehaw in Scotland, although this one seems to be missing us, mostly. Been foul rain with lumps again today, but last couple of days were wonderful blue skies and sun. Almost forgotten what it was like!
We've had a brief reprieve so the floodwaters went down a bit. Been minding the little grandchildren all week as the school (in Ironbridge) is closed. Need a boat to get to it. But more rain now and more to come so looks like the floods will be back up again. Getting around is a tad difficult when the roads are all closed and flooded! Just hoping they don't have to close the school again next week. Interesting view at breakfast though yesterday - as well as the pond full of froggy activity and frogspawn, there were two squirrels up in the tree playing piggyback, which the children found entertaining.

Ended up going to bed early again so up early, was disturbed about 4 by the weather. Not got much to do today as cleaner came yesterday, going to Lidl and might go to the coffee shop for lunch and a hot chocolate. Decided to ring the dentist when I got home from shopping, at 4.40 they were engaged, at 4.45 they were closed! Doc rang me back, they have to ask questions annually, but there were only a few left as I saw the rheumatologist, so he did it on the phone so no need to go in.Glad you were well enough to wash your hair Alicia, I do hope that your cough doesn't turn into anything else. Sorry you have been affected by the flooding Karen, do hope this storm doesn't make things much worse for you.
Morning. Damp and dreich as I think our friends in the north would say. The couple from the farm round the corner (where we buy the most sublime meat) are coming to collect our chicken house this afternoon. She's going to use it for a little flock of her posh layers - those who produce the coloured eggs.
Just wrote the longest blog post in the world and got the go ahead from Gareth to set up a sound cloud account so I can start sharing bits of the audio. Went for a walk this avo as it was sunny after peeing with rain for about 24 hours. Went out on the razz last night, it was great, except McOther ended up having to park about a mile away although, I was stuffed full and felt a lot better for a brisk walk through the centre of Cambridge.
Glad the hen house is going to good use Kath, Alicia, glad you seem to be on the mend a bit, Desley, hope you get the tooth sorted but at least you avoided the doc's.

Well, remembered that dentist is open on a Sat, so managed to get an app for next Sat. Then the garage rang, an automatic hire car has come in, so they want mine on Tue, that took a few calls to sort out. Brushed my teeth and the water was a funny colour, apparently there was an issue somewhere about 6 miles away, but all fixed now. Took two attempts to get to Lidl, just about to put my shoes on when we got a lot of large hail. Decided to eat lunch in the café, there was no one there, unfortunately part way through 2 families turned up, so there was 6 children, 2 sneezing. Storm has now arrived, so don't plan on leaving the house for the rest of the day.Glad it went OK last night MT. Showed my neighbour the pic of your cat on the blog post, but when she asked what he was called, I could only answer McCat! Glad the hen house is going to good use Kath, do coloured eggs taste different?

Urgh, heard a dripping noise about 7.30, ran upstairs to find a drip in the bedroom ceiling! Luckily a joiner can come at 10am and go in the loft to see if it can be plugged temporarily. Am obviously paranoid and wont relax, hoping it has nothing to do with the random noises I hear in the chimney.

We’ve survived the storms here, the roof slates were rattling well last night but nothing fell off thank goodness. It’s been a bit stressful here with one thing and another. We’d made plans for a couple of weeks in France travelling next week but we’ve postponed them. I’m not happy about leaving daughter for longer as she’s really not getting better very quickly and we didn’t want to be held up from coming home if areas were quarantined. They’ve cancelled the Nice carnival second week, the Menton Lemon Festival was also cut short by a week and banned all conferences and public events over 5000 people in the region. The doctor in charge at the hospital in Nice was told to issue masks and found someone had stolen all the stock of 15000 Surgical masks. Better to stay put at the moment even if the weather here is awful.
Blimey Desley, it’s all go! Hope that’s sorted soon. The cat’s name is Harrison it was his shelter name (his mother was called Beatle and his brothers were McCartney and Lennon). He’s highly intelligent, and although Humbert the parrot in my books came first, Harrison is, essentially, Humbert made real. He has developed a worrying habit of sharpening his claws on an antique table so I’ve had to wrap its legs in silver foil. McOther is not amused! McOther hates him because he is a thief and a bit of a moron to be honest but also very sopping and loving, just not to McOther because he’s always shouting at him!

I hope your daughter is soon feeling fit, these things take time though, it must have been a real sucker punch to her whole system.
Fortunately the rain stopped shortly after I noticed the drip, so it has disappeared (hope it doesn't make it tricky for the joiner to find the source!). Suspect my plan of going to a craft fair won't happen. Dry but very windy here. I think I would postpone as well Lynne, I'm sorry she still isn't 100%. Thanks MT, I knew I had heard his name, but couldn't remember it.
