Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I had a smile and thought of Jim yesterday. Story in the local paper of a kite surfer disappeared off Pendine Sands in the gales on Sunday with a plea for people to look for him. The shared posts on Facebook started and the second one was shared in Barrow in Furness. I know it was windy but bloody hell thats going some.
The story had a happy ending. The lad spent the night on the marshes but is unharmed.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Sorry things are so hard for you at the moment, Lynne. It never rains but it pours, they say. Not fair, I say!

Still playing with paint but I'm off at lunchtime with our flower arranging gang for a Christmas meal. Can't remember what I ordered but fortunately someone has a list! We ordered it six weeks ago.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments i can’t say I wish I’d have stayed in France as the general strikes are really gearing up. Little lad a bit better anyway. I think I’ll add more gin to my shopping list

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I've been copying Lynne with a full day in A&E yesterday (Bronglais, though, in Aberystwyth) with K's eldest granddaughter. She's just gone down to surgery now for an emergency gall bladder removal.

Still, it makes a change from being dragged round the shops!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Had a rubbish night sleep, but at least I only have 3 more sleeps. Even better, we got an e-mail yesterday afternoon telling us that we can finish at 1 on Fri! Not had proper daylight yet, looks quite foggy out. Got Lucy’s acupuncture tonight, then can claim for it.

Glad you made it OK Patti, you could have brought some nice weather with you! Nice to see you Claire, bet you are glad to be home. Sorry it’s not a positive update on your daughter Lynne, or the rest of the family. Good job you are OK to sort everything out. I think you are right, they released her too early. Sorry you've also been experiencing A & E Departments Will.

I missed that one, but then he obviously never turned up here :-)
Actually we have a lot of kite surfers along our stretch of coast, one extra would probably not be noticed ;-)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You've had quite the time of it lately, Lynne. I do hope everything sorts out soon.
Been to tesco twice in two days. It's so nice to find actual food in a supermarket. You'd know what I mean if you've ever shopped in what passes for a supermarket in Mandalay.
There must be at least 100 000 calories residing in my kitchen at the moment.
Dawned on me on the flight that this will be our first Christmas as a married couple, so we should mark the occasion with a tree. Went to a poundstretchers type shop and bought an 8 incher for £1.99.
So festive. :)

You must all be so stressed.

Having the flu shot doesn't keep you 100% from getting the flu, but, if you do get it, it is supposed to be milder.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good luck with that Will, good job it’s not Glangwili. They’ve got the norovirus and it’s closed to visitors.
Happy first married Christmas Patti & Dave.
I’m a bit calmer now, big gin and tonic and making mince pies.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Evening all, I've had my hair cut and my ears are cold!

I had my gall bladder out as an emergency too, when I was a lot younger. Hadn't even known I possessed such an organ, prior to that :)
Haven't missed it either!

It took a while for my system to adjust to not having one, it's perhaps three or so years before I was entirely comfortable with fat

I've hit that point where that is all I say about almost everything - I'll do something about it in the new year!!!

when you've just had your gall bladder out, fat can act as a laxative!

message 12567: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Eh up! Lots of daft jobs to do today. Clearing out the cupboard under the stairs was the first. Husband did most of that. I tend to stand there with one item in my hand not knowing where to put it. Need a visit to the farm for some more stewing beef and one to ASDA for other stuff. After lunch, though.

Had my gall bladder out. Never noticed a difference regarding eating fat but I did lose the discomfort in my middle.

message 12568: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Kath - you are so industrious! You put me to shame. I wish we had an Asda. We have Waitrose, Co-Op and some kind of Tesco express franchise.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Weather too awful to go out today. The wind was quite frightening. The man and the dog got soaked and nearly blown away. Thank goodness for home deliveries. I’ve got one tomorrow but you wouldn’t have been able to open the boot if I’d have gone to the shops. Plus I’d have been soaked through and the trolley full of food.
My new neighbours’ furniture van arrived Tonight. I do hope it’s calm tomorrow or they wont get the doors open. My old neighbours lost their car hatchback door once. It went up and over completely flat on the top of the car and fell off.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The gales weren't too bad here yesterday. Dave said we had some heavy rain but I slept through it.
Hopefully my sleep patterns will sort out soon. Can't seem to stay asleep for more than a couple hours.
Dave is off to the dentist then to see his father today. I don't intend to leave the flat unless the sun shines. Not much chance of that happening.

So pleased to see a headline that the Orange Monstrosity has been impeached. Bodes well for 2020 being a good year.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Grandaughter is home, installed in the spare room and added to the sick list for preparation of meds every day... I'm finally getting value out f having written all my ex's assignments for her nursing degree all those years ago.

Wind has dropped, and rain slid off to bother someone else for a change. Good.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Well, massive difference in temp in the last two days – yesterday it was -1, this morning 7! I realised my temp was high yesterday when I de-iced the car and drive for 5 mins before realising that at -1, putting gloves on would be a good idea. Didn’t get on yesterday as I had my rheumatology check up, which was a waste of time, I got a trainee who asked me a load of questions, prodded me, then asked what I wanted to get out of the app! She did a quiz for ankylosing spondylitis, then went and had a chat with the rheumatologist before coming back and saying they were going to do a nerve conduction test on my foot, an MRI of my back, more bloods, and ask the ophthalmologist to put me on the screening list as I should be monitored with the medication I’m on. Then said to come back in 6 months, but at least they made an app for me there and then this time. If something comes back showing something though (I did google AS and I do fit the symptoms), I hope they won’t make me wait 6 months. We did a raffle this week for the local hospice, I won a lovely hamper, a colleague keeps bees, and did 3 hampers, I got the biggest which had 5 candles, 2 jars of honey and some bee pollen in it, smells amazing. Friend popped round with presents last night, she is more organised than me though, fortunately I’m picking her cats up from the cattery on Sun, so I can drop hers off then. Have brought in my stuff for the soup kitchen, and dropping off my friends turkey tonight. Then need to get things sorted for the cleaner coming tomorrow. Toenail getting worse, just spoke to podiatry, they have a clinic on Mon, so I’ll persevere till then. Only one more get up, am so relieved, keep waking up earlier than the alarm and not getting back to sleep.

So festive Patti! Did it come decorated? Hope you get the right kind of weather to leave the flat Patti, and good luck sorting your sleep pattern out. Hope you get the internet sorted Kelly, irony is that I love going to Waitrose when I come to Jersey, we don’t have any round here. Glad granddaughter is home Will

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Having a fab time at home. If anyone will be in the Norfolk area next year, or gets the chance to go, I highly recommend the Thursford Christmas Spectacular (it's sold out for this year). Absolutely stunning performance, came away from it feeling very festive. Never heard Rockin' Around the World on the bagpipes before!!

Glad you're back in the UK Patti, and glad your granddaughter's home Will.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Yo! Been at the village church decorating it with greenery ready for the festivities. It's a full day's job for half a dozen of us. I did the church porch arch, the inner one, so the stuff is under shelter. That's because it has fairy lights threaded through the greenery. Looks magical. Also a big ring for the door. Helped with the other stuff. Tired now!

Jim | 21811 comments Actually for me Christmas tends to be over by the 27th :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Phew, that's work done for the year! And cleaner has been so not that much to do. Been to the co-op for milk and bits, chemist etc, so apart from a trip to Lidl on Mon, we have enough food till next year! Although I got a cat food voucher at co-op, so will likely go back there. I'm so rock and roll I'll be having an early night though, had a really bad night sleep last night. Luckily the only plans for tomorrow are going out for tea. We had a lovely thank you from the soup kitchen today, telling us who the various turkeys are going to feed, they are being spread around 4 places, which was really nice to know.

I find it over by 27th too Jim! Hope you enjoy all the hosting Kath!

I can’t overdo it with Billy the dog, he’s a real sneak thief. Once he sees something that takes his eye he’ll come back and steal it when he can so little items, anything that looks edible like berries on swags and garlands and my old glass decorations are all staying in the loft.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Jim wrote: "Actually for me Christmas tends to be over by the 27th :-)"

On years when we do Christmas with the in-laws ours is usually over by 28th. On years when it’s Christmas at my Mums we are heading up to the in laws to do the whole thing all over again on 28th, but they live too far away to visit for a weekend so there’s not much flexibility with visiting them. It’s five hours, whereas it’s only two and a half or three to my Mum’s so we can put New Year at hers off and do it on a weekend.

I absolutely love the Asterix books and that sounds like an excellent antidote to stress ... along with Viz annuals.

Cheers

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Hello!!

I ended up with a free evening last night! Kathleen got a last minute invite to the Pantomine due to my Uncle taking sick and then Nathan insisted on going with my mum to their house to see his Papa and he refused to leave so he slept over, Gareth was out for work drinks. I dream of this happening but instead of taking a long bath with a good book I tidied and cleaned then did the Christmas wrapping. I'm feeling exhausted but with the knowledge that I've been productive.

Now I'm craving macaroni cheese so that'll be lunch.

Might clear out my wardrobe today.

I hope everyone is well and enjoying the festive atmosphere or successfully avoiding it, either way I hope everyone is happy :o)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Urgh, not the best start to my break, had a rubbish night sleep, couldn't get the firestick working again, good thing I didn't cancel the new one, although it'll probably start working again tonight! Luckily I don't have much on today, did forget something yesterday, might leave it till Mon now though, and just relax on the sofa till we go out for tea. At least I have two weeks to start on my to do list.

Glad you are able to relax Patti. Typical that you get a free evening and decided to do housework rather than having some me time Jud! Glad you are getting organised Lynne, do hope there is some light at the end of the tunnel now,

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Have had a productive Christmas Shopping morning and have written the most turgid family letter ever - I hate them, hate doing them too because McOther's family have this weird celtic privacy thing so I'm not allowed to say anything about them. Then again, since it's for all the aged godmothers and family hangers on who only correspond by letter they're all my side anyway. Fed up with doing Christmas shite now so I'm going to spend the next hour doing a blog post.

Out on the razz this evening which should be fun.

Cheers

Oh how I wish I could do Christmas like that! :-) It’s been bloody Christmas here since about November!

On the up side, my festive, sort of seasonal story should be out on 8th Feb.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Got my hair done today, then did a big shop at the supermarket. Walked through the lashing rain as I tried to get a few more pressies. Gave up.
Watching The Four Feathers at the moment, the original one (and fiddling about on the internet).
Sounds like everyone's got loads going on.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Feel slightly better than yesterday fortunately, but as I didn't do anything yesterday, a bit to do today. Favourite thing will be cleaning the girls room for them to have one of their presents early, see how long it takes them to use it! Need to at least wrap the presents that are being distributed today, maybe even all of them. Got to pick my friends' cats up from the cattery at lunch. luckily new firestick is coming today as the old one still isn't working. Started raining just as we got in the car after tea last night, don't think it's stopped.

Hope you had a good evening MT.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments That's a day and a half you've got there, Desley! I need to sort out presents today so remember what I've bought!

Calling out to all technical gurus:- My laptop broke and I got another surface pro, this one running windows 10. I can't wok out how to backup to an external hard drive. It's plugged in but the backup area says no suitable device available Frightening place to be!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Thanks Desley, it was fun. Feeling VERY jaded now though and I didn't even drink much - a couple of glasses over five hours or so because I was driving.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments M.T. That was an incredibly powerful blog - it made me cry. That is not a bad thing at all, it means we feel, deeply, and someone has reached out and touched us.

Wishing you peace and happiness for the festive season. xxx

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Well, sort of a productive day, kind of ticked everything off the list, got all the presents wrapped, although front room and bedroom look like chaos! Started running a temp again after starting housework, so some have been a bit half hearted. However, I did get to chat with neighbours when giving them presents and Lucy made me lie on the sofa for half an hour, which is a much better use of time! Just running a bath. As much as I have doubts about the cattery my friend uses, I was pleased when the owner told me they had rescued some turkeys this morning, apparently her husband joked that only they could get turkeys this close to Christmas and have to build a shed for them!

That is a short to do list Kelly, I knew I couldn't do everything I needed to. Glad you had a good time MT, you deserve it.
