Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Just reached here Jim! And I've got a big beach clean organised :(

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Morning all, woke up early to the sound of rain. Tried to get back to sleep but failed. Got to take my old router to the post office this morning, then got to do as much housework as I can. Am out for tea and cocktails tonight, think I'll be suggesting just staying in the pub we are eating in so we don't turn end up looking like drowned rats! Talking about rats, neighbours vet visit went well, he has told her to stop the eye drops, yay! He is on long term antibiotics for his chest, she was concerned about leaving him, so I've said if she wants to go to her parents for the weekend I don't mind medicating him

Good luck for the beach clean R!

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Morning all,

We are having a decent morning, bit of sun but quite windy, perfect laundry drying weather!

Been outside all morning putting a new brick border around the garden. Looks quite good if i say so myself. Now to find out what other chores Ally wants me to do.

if it's anything like ours, it'll wash the beach clean anyway :-(

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Well we had 49 nutters conscientious citizens turn up for the beach clean in the downpour so I had to spend two hours standing outside this morning. Wet right through to the undies when I got home despite the so-called waterproofs. Now quite wheezy and got a sore chest which is something new for me!

I think it's so sweet that you're helping to take care of a rat. You're a good friend to your neighbor. Most people wouldn't.

I remember how hard I fought for my chinchilla's life when she was about a year and a half old (they can live to 22!), and stopped eating. She's still okay 5 years later, and settled with her new family, and I have thousands of words I wrote about trying to keep her alive.

I love rats, but don't have time for one of my own, her two are lovely so it isn't an issue looking after them and his antibiotics are easy to get into him. Glad you got your chinchilla to survive

Lady wife and another guide guider got the job of taking the girls around Blackpool Pleasure beach on a wet day when there was a big guide camp near by
The thought was that the girls could do something different and get off the wet camp site
Lady wife gets travel sick and cannot cope with big dippers etc. Other guider would take the big dipper party

After that jaunt Lady wife caught up with other guider, she was in the ladies' loo drying her knickers under the hot air hand drier! She'd had to go with several groups of guides so had been outside in all of it, the guides had done one run each and then run for shelter

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Morning all, it’s been really warm here, so warm that I’ve spent the day wandering around in a vest top. I have a dig tomorrow and if anyone’s interested, I’ve done some blogginge

Cheers

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I had a rat called Boris the Bold (that’ll date me!) - he was a great pet.

Did Lady Wife remove knickers before drying under handblower? Would imagine rather difficult otherwise

Lady wife's fellow guider rather than lady wife. But yes knickers were removed, wrung out over sink and then dried under handblower

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Another lovely morning here. I hope Will is dry and safe. Carmarthen and surrounding areas had a really bad flooding.
We had a lovely meal at friends home last night. I had to do the teenage thing of lying flat to zip my jeans up. My Dobermann couldn’t believe his luck and took the opportunity to jump on me. Ouchy. Diet next week, I can’t do flab and pain.
He’s got an amazing sense of smell like the last Dobie. He hates the smell of methadone. The rehab clinic down the road allows patients out into the village in threes. When the recovering alcoholics pass there’s not a sound out of him but others get the full on barking.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Morning all, raining but wind seems to have died down. Had a lovely meal, drinks and a nice catch up with my friend last night - had a parma violet gin with rose lemonade in the first pub - not been in it before, liked the drink but not overly keen on the place. Failed on a lie in, so might have a nap later. Pretty much done all the housework, got some admin to do, sort out the sonos then chill till my candlelit bath with my new rose and rhubarb candle.

Hope no one is too affected by the floods.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Morning

Wet weekend here, too.

Th PD on Saturday was a complete waste of time. Dave and I managed to leave early to shop for 'classroom items', so that was okay.
Had the lads round for dinner and GoT again last night. Nice way to end the week.
We need to get to Yangon next week. Dave is trying to sort out the overnight train for us. I'd rather fly.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. The widdling has ceased! Mrs Gaff is out of hospital for the second time, and with an appointment with a specialist booked, I'm hoping the last (fingers crossed) for a while.

Mostly IT today, which I'm looking forward to, then the joys of ironing, and pairing socks to come this evening to catch up with everything over the last fortnight.

What an exciting life! Still, managed to get quite a bit of writing done these past few days, and the finish line is in sight. Always seems to fall around nonowrimo. One of these years, I;m going to manage to clear my backlogs in time to participate!! :-D

message 8071: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! I'm not doing NaNo this year either, Gaff. Same reason. I'm in the middle of something I don't want to rush. I've been most successful with it when starting afresh. Best wishes to Mrs Gaff.

Raining again.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning.

Lovely day here today, yesterday was too but we went to SIL's messy church in the afternoon so didn't make the most of it but the kids had fun and Kitty stayed to play with her cousins afterwards.

I've always wanted a pet rat, I'd love it if a neighbour asked me to look after theirs.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments That was a wet weekend. We went out on Saturday, and turned round at Carmarthen and came home just before the last road this way was shut. Drove through deeper water than I've ever been in in a car. K's teenage grand daughter and her mates went swimming in the Co op car park in Lampeter (which was possibly not very sensible)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Didn’t want to get up this morning! Dry but a bit windy today, we actually did end up with some sun yesterday. Seem to have a busy week at work. Our friend is over from Malta this week, so will be busy in the evenings. Starting with a sore throat and a colleague has a cold, hope I don’t come down with it.

Sounds interesting Will! I'd love another rat Jud, but they need a lot of time, and I don't have trustworthy cats at the moment, so I like being able to go next door to cuddle hers.

Taking the day off to go out for lunch and catch up on some house things/writing. We've had ridiculous overnight fog come down.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

It's another lovely day here I just wish I had gotten more sleep last night. Nathan sounds like he is taking a very bad cold or else it's croup. The barking cough during the night was the first sign that anything was wrong. Poor wee lamb.

message 8085: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Coming home late last night from a storytelling gig, the brambles seemed to reach out at us quite aggressively as we came down the lane. So today's job was to attack them with hedge trimmers...

Think I need a lie down now.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Well, was a couple of minutes last this morning thanks to ‘ratty’ neighbour – she heard me shut the door and came to say hello with the rats, tried telling her I needed to go, and she just kept talking to me! Shame I couldn’t get up early this morning, got loads of errands to do – need petrol and going to pop into Morrisons to see if they have a particular cat food, then need to pick up my new boots from Asda, then get a couple of bits from Aldi for our friend from Malta. We have cake today though. Bit accident prone, my neighbour doesn’t like bright rooms, but our friend wanted light on to eat, and I tripped over her wooden cat to try and put the light on, as I didn’t see it! Nearly broke the TV as I landed on the TV cabinet, then this morning kept dropping things

message 8087: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! First up? Me? With my reputation?
Hope it's dry today. I need to pick up the windfalls from next door's Bramley. They land on my veg plot. Good ones I'll cook. Bruised ones will go in the trug and I'll take them to the farm round the corner. The pigs love them.

message 8088: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments That sounds awesome - it's drizzly and horrible here. I'm hoping it clears up by the time I get home as Mel has grown a great crop of tomatoes this year on our tiny balcony, and I noticed as I was leaving that a whole new batch has ripened!

message 8089: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, everyone. Weather keeps alternating between hot and cold up here - I came back late from an open mic event last night and was sweating by the time I got home.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Overcast, but not too bad in the valley this morning. Mixed bag of lessons today which is usually fun, but I've seen my class lists for today and there are one or two little challenges ahead.

Used to love collecting windfalls. Not that we had the patience to wait for windfalls most of the time :-D

message 8091: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments There's been plenty of wind lately! I took a big garden trug full to the piggies a couple of weeks back. More came down with this latest storm. In fact the wind has been so severe recently that we've got polystyrene over the greenhouse roof near the neighbouring apple tree. Lesson learnt from previous years!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Got all my errands done last night, went to my neighbours to drop off her shopping, hit the wooden cat with my foot, sent it backwards, and it caught the plug socket, switching everything off! My bruised knee was a bit sore getting out of the shower this morning, then I dropped one of the cat bowls on my foot (fortunately a stainless steel rather than ceramic bowl) and hit my elbow on the banister while putting my jacket on it! Wearing one pair of my new boots, they are a tad large, but hoping when I put my orthotics in tonight they will be a better fit. My other pair fit, but they are a birthday present, so can’t wear them till then. Really unusual for me to have 3 pairs of boots for the winter, I normally just wear one all the time! And even better, not all of them are black. Must message the plumber about my sink, his brother is an electrician so will see if he can fix my thermostat.

message 8094: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Afternoon!

I was late to work this morning so I could go to the meeting at school (Kathleen is a star!) and then I had a meeting in work as soon as I got in. I'm now trying to type up the filenote for the meeting. Boring. I'd rather be eating cake and drinking tea.

I was meant to go for a run today but I wimped out, I'll go tomorrow instead.

Only 2 hours to home time.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Morning all, I noticed the cold too this morning. Nothing interesting today, I managed to have 2 neighbours give me food last night!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Jim wrote: "mornings tend to be now, on a nice day there's no heat in the sun until after about 10am"

As the sun doesn't rise until nearly 8am now that doesn't surprise me :)
Sadly that means I have three hours of darkness after I get up before I can get on with anything involving colour

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We’re starting to get stuff ready for coming home, he’s putting things in the car and I’m taking them out again as there’s days to go yet. I’m out to lunch with the ladies, he says he’ll have bread and cheese ‘to help me out.’ That’s nice! As Mrs Brown would say.
Went out for dinner last night. My waistline is no more. It’s like Monty Python’s parrot. Need a diet or a corset or both. Next week then - well after the hotel dinner.
