In the Dark (SEAL Team 12, #2) by Marliss Melton

Read from 09/12/14 - 09/13/14

Brief Review
Hannah Geary finds herself in a world of trouble. Waking up in a prison cell, disoriented, lost and no idea what is going on, she knows she must escape. Lucky for her there's an awesome SEAL just waiting on the other side to rescue her. Lt Luther Lindstrom does not have time for all these feelings he seems to have for Hannah. Having just ended one marriage, he's not really ready for a relationship right now.

This was a great story: a rogue SEAL selling weapons to the enemy, another SEAL's life waiting in the balance as his fate is decided, revenge, and a great love story. This is book two of the SEAL Team 12 series. I'm looking forward to book #3.

4 Stars

1. Ear - Called: (location 782)
She strained her ears to hear either man.

2. Mystery - Bonus: (location 2450)
...scowling in concentration at the murder mystery book in her lap.

3. Magic: (location 3293)
...was just as eager to relive the magic as he.

4. Onyx: (location 2420)
...black eyes looked as hard as polished onyx .

5. Soldier: (location 271)
...recognized him as the leader of the soldiers that drilled in the courtyard.

Jennifer H Week 10~Ear & Mystery

Sex and the Single Vampire (Dark Ones, #2) by Katie MacAlister
Sex and the Single Vampire by Katie MacAlister
Finished: 9/14/14
Rating: ♥♥♥♥

Magic: a few magic words (p. 49)
Onyx: Onyx eyes bored into mine (p. 114)
Soldier: to battle a soldier (p. 253)
Ear: twitched an ear (p. 9)
Mystery: air of mystery (p. 383)

The second installment of Katie MacAlister's vampire series is a winner. It takes up Christian's story and introduces other interesting characters. It is a very original story. If you like mystery, romance, humor and vampires (not to mention a ghost cat), this book is definitely for you.

Stacey Kennedy Week 10- Ear/ mystery
I read City of Bones
Finished: 99/15/14
Rating 1 star

Review- I will start off by admitting this is probably an unfair review, since I read this book under duress of a fever of 103 and pneumonia. Maybe if I pick it up a year from now I will like it better, but somehow I highly doubt it.
Clary Fray lived a normal life for 15 years with a very strict, overprotective and secretive mother.Until one day when, over the phone, she hears her mother being attacked, telling her to stay away from their home. As any rightful teenager would do, she goes straight home and is face to face with a Ravener demon who was waiting to bring her into another world, a world ehr mother had tried to escape years ago. Coincidentally, she realized the evening before that she, too, has the Sight- that she can see these creatures that normal humans, or mundanes, cannot. This also makes her a Shadowhunter, like her mother. She immediately gets sucked into the overlapping dimensions, hooking up with other Shadowhunters, or Demon killers, to try to find her mother before it's too late, and before another Uprising can occur. Apparently the old band of Evil have gotten back together. Clary joins the world of Shadowhunters, dragging her human friend SImon along, to find her mother and solve the mystery of her family.

I will try to limit my review since it may be skewed. I just did not like anything about this book. Starting with the characters- Clary vacillates between acting 2 and 40- you could picture her whining and stomping her foot. Jace was just as unlikeable. The dialogue was terrible and very innappropriate at times for the circumstances. And the writing style was not my thing either. I just read as fast as possible to get through. Glad it's done.

Ear- held the phone away from her ear (p 19)
Mystery- fantasy and mystery thrown in (p 120)
Magic- She doesn't believe in magic (p 70)
Onyx- torches burned in long onyx holders (p 182)
Soldier- he'd been a decorated soldier (p 21)

Jennifer H Week 11~Egg & Tattoo

Heart of Dixie by Tami Hoag by Tami Hoag
Finished~9/19/14
Rating~♥♥♥

Air~The cool air that blew~p. 1
Sapphire~saffron and sapphire~p. 156
Egg~the color of a robin's egg~p. 89
Tattoo~on the small tattoo~p. 156

Cute story the characters are sweet, but very predictable. Interesting to see where Tami Hoag has come from and to see how much she has grown as an author. Not my favorite of her early romances, but it was light-hearted and a quick read.

Stacey Kennedy I read The Emerald Talisman
finished- 9-20-14
rating- 2 stars

review- Julia Parker is a teenage girl with the gift to read others' emotions. She can sense their anger, guilt, honesty, etc. This keeps her pretty sheltered, choosing only 'safe' friends. One night her car breaks down and she finds herself lost in the woods on a shortcut and can sense an evil presence with her. She falls off a cliff while running only to be saved by another stranger who she's seen before, who also has special abilities. He carries her home and she starts to fall in love. She also senses his 'difference' altho it takes her a bit to figure out his true nature- he is a vampire. In fact, her town is full of them and she is a magnet. Her hero, Nicholas, is her guardian, and does not feel off human blood at all. In fact, he is a vampire hunter. Their tale unfolds as the town is wracked with fear over recent disappearances of other teens. Julia is told by a psychic that 'she is the one who will save them from evil'. Julia and Nicholar work together to rid the town of blood suckers while trying to figure out their own relationship.
Ugh- I tried to like it. The only thing that kept me going was picturing Kiefer Sutherland and gang from the 80's movie "the Lost Boys'. Julia was just a ridiculous character for me. I know, she is a love struck teen ager but jeez the dumb things she does over and over was mind boggling. Plus, after realizing vampires are real etc etc her primary concern is does Nicholas like her the same?? When will she see him again? And then another vampire wants to turn her she is flattered and will have to decide between her soul mate and the hot vamp. Ugh!!
There were parts that were okay but the writing for me was mediocre.

Air- the cool air smelled of dew (p 18)
Sapphire- her big, sapphire doe- eyes (p 212)
Egg- fluffy scrambled eggs (p 70)
Tattoo- you've even got a cross tattoo (p 175)

Rosina | 1 comments I read The Emerald Talisman (Talisman, #1) by Brenda Pandos
Finished Sept 20/14

2 stars at best.
I thought this was poorly executed. I have read worse books. I just couldn't connect with characters. I really couldn’t decide what to rate this 2 ½ I guess. I kept waffling between it’s ok and I kind of like it.
It reminded me a bit of Twilight (think gorgeous guy saves helpless girl multiple times despite her stupidity, stalks her and drives really fast), the TV series Moonlight (think immortal guy saves child from vampire and secretly watches her grow up and then falls in love with her), with a bit of Blade (think half vampire day-walker who hunts evil vampires) thrown in there as well. There were some things that I found myself rolling my eyes at. The main character had the annoying habit of thinking up something in her head and suddenly believing it was fact. Her expectations where ridiculous. She tells herself that she has to move on from someone that she only met once and was never in a relationship with. And she suffered from teenage girl, fall for any guy who gives her attention syndrome.

Air- the cool air smelled of dew (p 18)
Sapphire- her big, sapphire doe- eyes (p 212)
Egg- fluffy scrambled eggs (p 70)
Tattoo- you've even got a cross tattoo (p 175)

The Emerald Talisman (Talisman, #1) by Brenda Pandos

Read from 09/19/14 - 09/21/14
Rating:★★

Brief Review
Okay, some YA books are great. Others are not. This one falls into the latter category for me. I could not like the main character. The story moves slow. Last but not least, it's filled with a bunch of superficial nonsense. I know it's YA, but still...

I will not be moving on to the next book.

2 Stars.

1. Egg (Called): (pg 157)
...gourmet plate of scrambled eggs

2. Tattoo (Bonus): (page 175)
...got a cross tattoo

3. Air: (Page 229)
The air was thick with dust...

4. Sapphire: (page 259)
I held the stone in my palm and admired the new, rich, deep sapphire color.
