Chrissie A Far Country is another book I have liked a lot by Daniel Mason. His books are very different from each other.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

This book is not going to fit all readers.

Kirsten (kmcripn) I finished Radiance by Catherynne M. Valente yesterday. It's described as "decopunk pulp SF alt-history space opera mystery".

I loved it! One of the most inventive books I've read in a long time.

It seems I am not the only one who loves McCann. I have been yapping about him for ages!!!!!!!!!!!!! A contemporaneity author that is super fantastic. I have read everything available by him, except that one how to write books. HOW TO DO books tend to, well they are not for me. How do you teach creativity? I know my approach is wrong because I suppose you can get hints.

Angela M Chrissie, McCann is one of my favorite writers and since I read first read a book by him , I have been working to read all of his books. This was the last one I had left. So glad to have read them, but sad I don’t have another,

Chrissie , I loved McCann’s book on writing. I’m not a writer, but he gave me the perspective of the writer . As you would expect, it’s beautifully written.

Chrissie Here follows my review of When I Was Puerto Rican. It is a memoir that follows the author's life until she was fourteen.

This week end I've finished two Italian mystery series that I love quite a lot.
The first one is that of Rocco Schiavone, a particular policeman who comes from the outskirts of society - his friends are burglers and cheaters, he smokes marijuana in his office, and things like that.
The second if that of the "Bastardi di Pizzofalcone", a district of Neaples, Now I feel sort of orphan: I'll have to wait for more to come out!
From both of them there have been shot also a tv series; not bad ...

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1415 comments I finished Cairo Modern by Naguib Mahfouz.
He tends to hammer the point home, but I think the theme of the novel is as relevant today as it was when he wrote it in 1945.

Chrissie Wow, I Am, I Am, I Am: Seventeen Brushes with Death by Maggie O'Farrell was very good! Given that I like this much more thanThe Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, does anyone have a suggestion of which by the author I should pick up next?

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments Chrissie, I really enjoyed all of O'Farrell's novels. My first ever was The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox; maybe that will be the one to start you with.

Given that I like this much more thanThe Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, but I also loved The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, and it sounds like you didn’t, so I can’t really say if I think you’ll like. For what’s its worth, I really did.

Well, I did give Esme three stars. I think I will try The Hand That First Held Mine next. I will see what I think after that.

Kelly (marquis784) | 400 comments I received an ARC for a book #3 in a series so I read the first 2.
They were light, easy reads. They were a nice break from the other books I’ve been reading. These books are similar to other chic-lit authors only not as good in my opinion. The stories actually make reference to other well-known authors like Debbie Macomber and Nora Roberts.

Chrissie I have completed Through a Window: My Thirty Years with the Chimpanzees of Gombe by Jane Goodall. It is more a biography of her chimps than it is about her. It has a slow start, but I ended up liking it a lot.
