PattyMacDotComma If you liked "Where's Wally" and the tiny details in the Richard Scarry children's books, or those great little cartoon tourist maps with all the landmarks, I bet you'd enjoy Egypt Magnified: With a 3x Magnifying Glass. History made fun. Just delightful!

I liked your review of The Suspect but since my daughter is planning to go travelling soon I don't think I will be reading it.

PattyMacDotComma Aussie author Peggy Frew has a new novel out soon, Islands, and the cover says it all. Individually or grouped, we're islands (as is one of the settings, Phillip Island).

Petra | 3324 comments I've finished 2 books today:

Calypso by David Sedaris - I enjoy David's look at life, family and relationships. In this book, he focusses on middle age.
My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Kingdom of the Blind by Louise Penny - not the strongest of the series but still an interesting continuation of the stories of Inspector Gamache and Three Pines. As the series continues, I'm more and more upset with Jean-Guy.

bookswithpaulette January has been a great reading month for me......14 books so far, for me that’s a lot. the standout books I read this month were: The Nightingale (Kristin Hannah) and Three Things about Elsie (Jo Cannon)

January is usually a good reading month for me as well: considerning some days off I usually have for new year and the bad weather, I read more than the rest of the other months!
Up to now I've also read 17 books, and I think I'm going to finish another couple!

message 3377: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1415 comments I finished An Orchestra of Minorities by Chigozie Obioma.

A very powerful, complex, and compelling novel. Obioma skillfully weaves Igbo cosmology throughout the narrative. It's a heartbreaking novel. I loved The Fishermen but I think this is a stronger novel. It's certainly more complex.

Nichole | 554 comments Guys, I'm sorry I have not had time to do much reading lately. My mother had surgery, and I am her caretaker. The rest of January will be dedicated to caretaking.

I will be back in a few weeks.

Fingers crossed for your mother's quick and complete recovery Nichole! Remember to take care of yourself while you are taking care of her.

That said, I found that sitting by hospital beds was good for reading. When my parent woke up, I could discuss what I was reading as both my parents were also avid readers.
