Kathleen | 401 comments I ended 2018 with two excellent, beautiful books that I'd like to recommend.
The Member of the Wedding by Carson McCullers (review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...)
and
Moon Tiger by Penelope Lively (review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...)

2019 will have a lot to live up to!

PattyMacDotComma We know there is A Rule Against Murder, but one takes place anyway in Louise Penny's picturesque Quebec. I am not alone in loving Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and Penny's delicious, atmospheric writing. (aka The Murder Stone)

Chrissie I have completed my first book for the year--Inferno: The World at War, 1939-1945. It is a tough read. I particularly liked its global aspect.

What a coincidence! I enjoyed both books. I read The Member of the Wedding in April and posted my 5- star review.

I finished Moon Tiger yesterday and will post my review later today.

PattyMacDotComma Both Christmas and post-WWI France feature in Aussie author Jackie French’s novella With Love from Miss Lily: A Christmas Story. Not so much sugar and spice - more like Spanish Flu and a surprising bit of intrigue!

Chrissie I have completed Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. I think people should be told about this book and this author. I totally loved it. Absolutley everything about it!

To top it all off, Mark Bramhall gives a superb narration of the audiobook.

LauraT (laurata) | 14366 comments Mod
I've finished two books in these first days of 2019 that I've liked a lot; one as different from the other as possible.
The first one The Red Collar: A Novel by Jean-Christophe Rufin, the story of a strange soldier after his retourne from WWI, havong to cope with the relationship between idials and real life. Very short, extreamly well written
The second Joyland by Stephen King. A mystery always hinting to inner sins rather than external bad behaviour.
