B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments Yesterday I finished The Peacock Summer by Hannah Richell; my first non re-read book of this year. I'm giving it a 3 star rating mainly because it is a light read and easily digestible. No review as my brain is not quite up to that just yet.

Progress! Wonderful. You are on the way. Would Sophia: Princess, Suffragette, Revolutionary interest you? I read it a couple of years ago and loved it. Can I convince you to read it?

PattyMacDotComma I enjoyed Adrian Hyland's first novel, Moonlight Downs - intrigue in the outback with the feisty half-Aboriginal, half-white Emily Tempest. I'm a fan!

Petra | 3324 comments I finished The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs: A New History of a Lost World by Stephen Brusatte the other day.
I listened to this as an audio book and really enjoyed it. The world portrayed, how the dinosaurs managed to grow so strong and diverse, and how their demise came about is fascinating. Then there are the new details discovered in the recent years from the bones....really fascinating. I'm amazed at what can be "seen" from our World's most ancient past.

Petra | 3324 comments I finished Deadly Proof by M. Louisa Locke.
I got the first 4 volumes of this series in a Bookbub deal and have now read them all.
I enjoyed the characters but the mysteries were lame. All in all, a light, fun series that I'm now happy to put aside.

Chrissie I came to enjoy Rebecca West's Harriet Hume, although it did give me trouble at the start

Each of her books are very different.

dely | 5214 comments A book I would recommend to everyone (if they know Italian, because the book hasn't yet an English translation): Il catalogo delle donne valorose by Serena Dandini 5*

In this book there are 34 biographies about heroic and courageous women from all over the world that fought for civil rights (woman rights, LGBT, rights for black people, etc) but also to lead a life following their dreams and passions in times when a woman had only to shut up and deliver children.
There are a lot of women I had never heard of and their self-will, stubbornness and courage are really admirable and praiseworthy.
An interesting book everyone should read.

Only Italian review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I will! If you are curious to know of which woman the book talks about, here only a few: Anna Pavlova, Angela Davis, Sophie Scholl, Nellie Bly, Josephine Baker, Emma Goldmann, Alice Guy and many many others.
I loved reading this book and to know about the life of these strong women.

PattyMacDotComma I would never have survived these times in old Ireland, but I'm glad a lot of my ancestors did. The Good People were anything but good fairies in Hannah Kent's excellent novel.

ETA: I just read your review and see that you did know that this is based on a true story. Sad, eh?
