dely | 5214 comments I have finished War's Unwomanly Face by Svetlana Alexievich. Wow! 5*

Do you know that feeling when you love so much a book that you want everyone to read it? Well, this is one of those. I really recommend it to everyone, also men.

I've written only an Italian review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Have you read other books by her in addition to Secondhand Time and War's Unwomanly Face?

Sadly I don't have always time to write a review also in English. Actually, sometimes I even haven't time to write one in Italian!

PattyMacDotComma Just read a classic Agatha Christie Hercule Poirot mystery, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. You don't need to have met the little Belgian detective before to enjoy this clever whodunit!

Yes it is. Do you tend to prefer movies? Me, I prefer the book but see them as two different kinds of art.

I love going to the movies and go to a lot of them. But if it's a choice between a book and a movie, I generally prefer the book. I intend to see the movie of the Bookshop when it comes out just to see how they handle it. In this case, I might end up preferring the movie to the book :)

I agree. I don't know what I was expecting (a cross between a cozy mystery set in a bookshop and Mr. Penumbra?) but it was quite different and a good read.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1426 comments I read The Keepers of the House by Shirley Ann Grau. It chronicles several generations of the Howland family in a rural Alabama community. The narrative begins in the early 1800s and concludes in the 1960s. It deals with the deleterious impact of racism.
A very powerful novel. I gave it 5 stars.
