Kirsten (kmcripn) I finished The Accusation: Forbidden Stories from Inside North Korea by Bandi. This is a small volume of short stories smuggled out of North Korea where the author still lives. Very important read!

Finished yesterday The House in the Cerulean Sea; I have to say I didn't know the author or the book at all - I've been suggested it in another group - but I have been gladly surprised. It's not a literature masterpiece, but it talks about differences, racism and LGBT with niceties...

PattyMacDotComma The classic Graham Greene novel, The Quiet American, is up there with my favourites. Vietnam in the early 1950s - what a mix of people and a mess of politics and war, plus a love story.

PattyMacDotComma I've enjoyed some real winners in the Amazon Original Stories series, but this was not one of them. Oh. What. Fun. by Chandler Baker seems to have amused other readers. Not me.

Christine, if you click on one of Sandy's links right above your post, you will see her review, which she has shared here on Goodreads and also in her own blog. 😊

PattyMacDotComma I've not read American author Lily King before, but I sure enjoyed her collection of short stories, Five Tuesdays in Winter. I do love finding new writers I like. 😊

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1410 comments I finished Latitudes of Longing by Shubhangi Swarup. I loved the first section. Her writing in this section was lyrical and quite beautiful. But she became increasingly incoherent in the remaining sections. I think she overreached and rambled, which is a pity because she is obviously capable of some great writing.

PattyMacDotComma Her Second Death (Bree Taggert #0.5) is a short-story prequel to Melinda Leigh's homicide detective Bree Taggert crime series. I had never read any of this author's work before, but I enjoyed this introduction enough to consider reading the series.

I've finished Circe Circe by Madeline Miller by Madeline Miller that, sincerelly, didn't stunned me as it has so many around. I found it a bit confusing, conceited, inaccurate in parts. Probably because as Italian we grew up listening to Ulisses's stories - a figure I've never liked, by the way - I find this a bit preposterous...

We lived in Moscow for a year, and this was the first Russian tome I tackled while we were there. I loved it too, and it certainly colored my view of the city.

Have to share one of my favorite things: at Patriarch Ponds, where the novel begins, there is this sign (the Russian reads "Do not talk to strangers"). The sign is frequently stolen, as you might imagine, but always swiftly replaced.

Street sign on a light post, featuring silhouettes of Woland, Behemoth, and Koroviev overlaid with a 'forbidden' crossbar

I love it! I wish I could "borrow" the sign.
