Thanks, I am still battling this stomach thing but the worst is how it messes with my bg values.
I do like the Forster you are reading, but definitely prefer others by him, for example Where Angels Fear to Tread and A Passage to India.
Finished Radio Dramatization of Tales from the Perilous Realm by J.R.R. Tolkienmy review:

Just enjoyed Aussie author Luke Slattery's "imagined history", as he calls it, Mrs. M.It's an entertaining, completely fabricated romance between a couple of historical figures in early Sydney town. Such a painless way to learn a bit of history. :)

Enjoyed my introduction to the short stories of award-winning Aussie author Jennifer Down. Colourful people (some language) in Pulse Points: Stories.

Sounds good from your review Beth - I have added it to my TBR!
I have dashed through some enjoyable but lightweight books recently -- a couple of mysteries (Where There's a Will & Money from Holme, which isn't really a mystery at all), a Discworld book (Moving Pictures) and in audio, short stories by Wodehouse (Very Good, Jeeves!).
Finished
by Alessandra Torre-- 3 StarsThis was just ok for me (unpopular opinion).

I finished Peony
some time ago and thought it was unique in its historical setting. It's a story of impossible love between a Chinese bond maid and a Jewish boy in 19th century China. I learned a lot about the history of the Jewish community in Kaifeng, China. 4.3 stars.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished reading Independent People by Halldór Laxness. I enjoyed this book, although finding some parts of it frustrating. I would continue with the series but the other books haven't been translated. I'm not sure how much of a true series this is because this book seems complete in it's own. I will look for other books by this author one day. His writing is rich and he's a man who seems to be writing about his country as much as its people. It's my favorite too though The Razor's Edge, while completely different (not a satire), is also extremely good.

I will get to The Razor's Edge too, but I decided to do Mrs Craddock first. Have you read that one? It is cool that we both have liked Cakes and Ale best.

Chrissie wrote: "Nichole wrote: "I just put Cakes and Ale on my to-read list."Wonderful. Which have you read by W. Somerset Maugham before?"
Nothing by Maugham.
Leslie wrote: "Chrissie, I have not read Mrs Craddock. If you like it, I will add it to my already bulging TBR..."OK.
