PattyMacDotComma Open Water, a novella by British-Ghanaian author Caleb Azumah Nelson, is a poetic, complicated, lyrical love story, some of which I loved.

That sounds like one everybody should read, Joy. It's a great review!

PattyMacDotComma Booker-winning, Tasmanian Richard Flanagan has written a remarkable parable for our times. During Australia's Black Summer of bushfires, three adult children play tug-of-war over their dying mother, while her mind is often floating in The Living Sea of Waking Dreams. Suspension of disbelief is required, as the daughter's finger disappears and almost nobody notices.

Joy D Barkskins by Annie Proulx - 4 stars - My Review

Multigenerational family saga set mostly in Canada, covering over 300 years. In 1692, Frenchmen Charles Duquet and René Sel arrive in New France as indentured servants. The storyline follows the descendants of these two men. The primary focus of this book is rapid depletion of natural resources, particularly the overharvesting of fur and timber. It contrasts life of the settlers, who do not give a thought to taking whatever resources are available, with the Mi’kmaq, who live in harmony with the forest, taking only what they need. The environmental theme is articulated through the actions and dialogue among characters. Do not get too attached to any one particular character – they tend to die off quickly (rather like the felling of trees).

Fininshed, and appreciated a lot, an Italian mystery I'm surprised to see translated: Bramard's Case.
Iys strong point is the style of the writing; I'd love to know how it has been rendered in English

Finished yesterday Havana Blue by Leonardo Padura; nice Cuban mystery.
An easy read; worth the mention of the final quote of Salinger, right in the last lines!

PattyMacDotComma Everybody's Fool by Richard Russo is the long-awaited sequel to the popular Nobody's Fool. I'm happy to report that Sully and all were still at their stations in the White Horse and Hattie's when I left. (But you'll want to stay clear of the dog.)
