Nice review! I too am a fan of Stoppard's plays and also sometimes feel like the bulk of the meaning is going over my head. But I don't think I'll delve into Lee's biography myself...

PattyMacDotComma I really enjoyed Max Porter's unique young character, Lanny, in this unusual, fascinating mix of contemporary family story and ancient spirits. So good! (Made the Booker longlist)

PattyMacDotComma Some people make arrangements for their own, inevitable Exit from life, but things don't go to plan in this mystery by Belinda Bauer. I loved its warmth and humour.

A charming novel about the power of words to generate intimacy between two people who have never met.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1410 comments I read The Blizzard by Vladimir Sorokin; translated from the Russian by Jamey Gambrell.
The novel is intense; the setting immersive; the details well-drawn; and the language hypnotic, especially during the dream sequences and psychedelic vision. But I felt the significance of the journey was elusive and remained just beyond reach.
