Woot woot!!!

I'd say points for active participation only. And I'd also add that you can't earn points by commenting on a thread for a book you're not actively reading at the time.

Lol, at least one more line in the middle.
"It's good"
Or
"I hate it"
The point is that you're synchronized reading it lol.

Omg!!!!!! I'm going to tack that comment on my fridge. ;P

You should laminate that comment from Scott Niki. And frame it.
In fact - laminate, frame and post to Scott for pride of place on his wall to remind him when he agreed with you. Haha.

Better than me. I usually go with “I’m going to join” and then never do.

It's totally getting a meme.

Good thing you guys thoroughly archive old Buddy Reads threads... I'd like to see the first person that takes an old Buddy Read from 6 months ago or something and says "starting a little late"... then talks to himself throughout the book reading and commenting on the discussion already had...
I kinda did that when I read The Broken Earth late August just before joining in for Obelisk Gate...

I've add comments in Malazan boards to old threads and people will still chime in. I think we replied to some of your comment for the 5th season here.

I just meant to count it as participating in a Buddy Read (thread) for the bonus points in the group challenge next year... people did respond to my 5th Season comments...

Do re-reads count as much as for the first time?
What if you started the book on the 30th of December and read 10%. Would that book count?
Does only Fantasy/Sci-fi count or do every genre count?
What about other formats like graphic novels or kids books (lots of pics pr. page)?
Thanks. :)

That's a good question, didn't think of that!

Great questions!
Yes rereads count as much as first times through as long as they're read in 2018.
We had a discussion about this and only books started in 2018 will count.
Every genre counts. Most of our buddy reads are geared towards fantasy though, so there is an incentive to reading mostly fantasy for bonus points.
Graphic novels and manga will be allowed, but their point values per page will be less.
I'll be updating the rules with some of these recent decisions next week sometime. Please let me know if there are any more questions. :)

I updated the rules to include answers to the questions that have been asked. Please let me know if there are additional inquiries. :)
And MODs, please let me know if you see something that needs changing.

To simplify it: All I have to is read the books I want and it will still count towards the point right??

We'll find a way to get everybody on a team. It's just difficult for Niki to keep it balanced. Especially added two heavy hitters like yourselves. Both of you are in the top 5 of all people joining teams for books read this year.
Also Petrik a Malazan tome will count as much as reading 3 shorter books.

ah okay! Well, I'll be waiting if there's any available spot eventually! :D

Agreed?

Agreed?"
I'd love to be in the same team with you and Nikki! :D

Haha there's four teams I think? Scott's team, Niki's team, Margret's team, and Jenna and Angela.

Get commenting.
Get commenting.
I think team AJ is short on players so I expect it will probably end up that they'll end up with multiple players vs one of the big guns. As long as the totals roughly matchup when we start it will all be good.

It's definitely more for fun than anything =].

But I won't complain if you get assigned to Niki's team, lol. ;)
I totally want Petrik on Team Angela and Jenna :D
But really, Niki spends a lot of time arranging the members of the teams depending on the number of books read so wherever you get put, it's awesome that you're joining.

When do you think we will hear about the teams? I didnt know about the book count. So I have to go through my library and add the missing books until then :D
Minor scoring question... the Shame Challenge... every book we read except book 1 in a series counts towards that challenge, right? (Everyone should join that challenge before 2018 btw)

Whenever Niki has time :) The challenge starts in January, so we'll get everyone on a team before then.

We're debating it. The idea of challenges is to provide a sense of community and create more group participation so my initial thought is yes. For standalones there's still the cover and A-Z challenges to get double points.

I created my Shame challenge thread mostly because of the benefits of having a thread/page tracking all my series with book links... but it seems like such a goldmine for extra competition points since it's listed as a challenge like any other...

The general consensus is: yes, all non first in series will count as bonus points if you are doing the shame challenge. Total incentive to sign up for that lol.
