It was recommended to me by the owner of a local comic book shop so I was glad KU had it!

Shelley | 123 comments I had no idea that Hoopla did comics and I'm super excited now. I can't see any audio books or regular books on my list though. Is it just by library system?

It could be because of your library. My friend Shelby explained it recently in my GR group, "With programs like Hoopla, libraries pay per any time anyone checks something out. With Overdrive, some they pay per copy and then it's theirs and/or some they pay for the right to a certain number of checkouts before deciding if they want to pay for it again (but I believe it's a high number of checkouts)."

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I think my final food list will be as follows:
Hummus w/ veggies
Homemade guacamole w/ tortilla chips
Candiebarr's (see message 31 in Snacks and Recipes thread) sausage dip w/ tortilla chips and veggies
These puppies! Baker's White Chocolate Truffle Kit
1 cup of coffee in the morning, tea, soda, water, Bubly

Breakfast is mostly non-existent, maybe a bowl of cereal, and lunch basically the sausage dip, guac, and hummus. And for supper will be leftover chicken shawarma which I will be making for supper Friday night. Leftovers are more delicious when all the flavors have a chance to marinate!

I looked up that sausage dip recipe and now it's on my food list as well, along with the "caramel" dip Beth posted on the snacks thread. I may go do my shopping tonight since I work Wed and thurs night and I'll want Fri evening to prep my books, kindles, and my stuff for my photo shoot. I have to get my eyebrows threaded and paint my toe nails between now and Saturday as well. LOL

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I've picked out my audiobooks for Saturday. I have 2 audiobooks to listen to before Saturday and I will hopefully finish both! I started one this morning and have about 7 hours left. The other is almost 10 hours.

Anywhooo, I decided to go with the Audible Originals that Audible gives its members every month (since September). I haven't listened to any since they started this benefit and they're less than 5 hours each. I will just list all of the 2018 ones so I can use them for the Mount TBR Challenge too and I don't know what I'll feel like listening to.
The X-Files: Cold Cases
Emma: An Audible Original Drama
Lullaby
The Queen: Aretha Franklin
Stephen Fry's Victorian Secrets
Strong Ending A Journey from Combat to Comedy
Zero G
The Diary of a Hounslow Girl

Emma: Audible Original, Stephen Fry’s Victorian Secrets, and Zero G are all on my TBR list, too. I listened to Lullaby last fall around Hallowe’en, and it fell flat for me, but I’m not really one for scary stories anyway. I love Stephen Fry as a narrator, the description of Zero G hooked me as did listening to the first bit of Emma. Hope you enjoy them!

You should've been getting emails from Audible the first week of every month! They release 6 Audible Originals the first Friday of every month and you can choose 2 for free! You have the whole month to pick them. They've been doing it since September.

Overdrive apparently is more expensive for libraries, hence why my library switched to using only hoopla and axis 360. Can't stand Axis as it ALWAYS crashes on my phone, I can never get it to pause or bookmark when I want it to, and it doesn't do kindle format. I do love hoopla for audio books though, even if it restricts how many you can borrow in a month since I always go through more than they allow me to check out.

I have the first and second books in the new audible exclusive x-files series. I got the first one for free as one of my two free audible originals every month. I think I bought the second one tho it was pretty inexpensive. They are pretty good. A little cheesy, but then the tv show got pretty cheesy sometimes too. The whole original cast is back for the audio series, except I think cigarette smoking man since I believe I read somewhere he passed away? I love x-files though (we won't talk about that revival they tried though. ugh. so disappointing after so many years).

I've never heard of Axis 360. My local libraries use Overdrive over Hoopla. I think it all depends on the needs/wants of the patrons whether one is more expensive than the other for the library itself.

I love that's it's an original cast audio! I liked the new series but it definitely wasn't as good as the original. THAT gave me nightmares! My parents watched it and I saw a few episodes as a kid. Yikes. lol

I actually felt better once I got up from my library and checked in at midnight and ended up staying up till 2:40am, plowing through books! Woke up at 6am to finish out the 'thon an decided to dedicate those last 2 hours to solely reading. Combined my last 2 check-ins. I have so many threads to update now for various challenges. But I'm going to take a nap and then do said updates while watching TV. Ending Survey and final tallies to come!

Oh my lordy, story of my LIFE. lol. I have so many NetGalley ARCs that aren't ARCs anymore! One of my goals this year is to get through a lot of them, read the ones that still are "advanced" and slow down on requests! Easier said than done. Who wants to pass up free books?! Not this crazy lady!

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Opening Survey
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? New Hampshire
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I'm, kind of excited about a lot of them! But I really want to read The Complete Persepolis
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Homemade guac and tortilla chips. I make a darn good guac if I do say so myself. ;)
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I love my diggity dogs!
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? More reading, less listening.

I woke up a little over an hour before start time and still didn't have time to do this before the 'thon started. lol. So I'm doing it an hour in while listening to The X-Files: Cold Cases.

It's too hard to pass up a free book, especially when it is a good one! I'm also guilty of just forgetting to even look what books I have on my Kindle, which means I forget how many NetGalley books I have and then request more. I started using NetGalley to focus on more Middle Grade/older Children's so I can stay up with what the kids I volunteer with at Summer Camp are reading - and those are quicker to read...yet I still ended up with a huge list of unread NetGalley books. So that plan backfired lol. I need to make a plan to get them done too!
