Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Closing Survey
1. Which hour was most daunting for you? As always, the wee hours. I did manage to stay awake till 1:30am which is a record for me! It's usually 11pm. lol
2. Tell us ALLLLL the books you read!
The Bazaar of Bad Dreams, The Dark Tower: The Long Road Home, The Dark Tower: Treachery, Cujo, The Waste Lands, Carrie
3. Which books would you recommend to other Read-a-thoners? The Dark Tower graphic novel prequels if you're a fan of The Dark Tower book series! I actually like them more than the book series!
4. What’s a really rad thing we could do during the next Read-a-thon that would make you happy? A group effort like the Scavenger Hunt from April.
5. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? Absolutely!

I wasn't crazy about it. And not because I'm a dog lover. It was very slow and there was a lot of sex and vulgarity. Not my favorite King novel.

Mine ended at 7am and after going to sleep at 1:30am, I barely woke up to groggily slog through some pages in that final 6-7am slot, then promptly went back to sleep and lounged around the rest of the day as well. I've bought all of my physical King books (over 30) at yard sales, book sales, and just recently BookOutlet.com. The first brand new physical King book I bought was The Wind Through the Keyhole and that was this past August. lol. I had to complete my Dark Tower collection even though the books don't match in editions. I plan on still finding physical copies of the King audiobooks I've listened to as well. I want them all. lol. I regret getting rid of Dolores Claiborne and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon after I read them when I was younger! But I had had to downsize at the time and they weren't favorite reads. Now I've got the room for more physical books and just need to buy more bookcases!

Thanks! I'm barely into Carrie and so far it's not my favorite, I don't really like the random citations from "books" and "research papers" and "interviews" that are smattered throughout. I just want Carrie's story! But he does have some really amazing ones and they're not all horror! :)

I needed the veg time after all that reading! lol. Way different than the reverse readathon where I only read graphic novels so they were all pretty light and not hard on the brain. King can be hard on the brain. lol. Emotionally exhausting!

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Holy cannoli Dewey's is EARLY this spring!! I was like oh I'll check in and maybe start a tentative TBR, it's a little over a month away da dee da and lo and behold, it's April 6! LESS than a month away! It's weird that it's not on Independent Bookstore Day. lol.

Anywho, I AM going to start a TBR! I routinely buy graphic novels that I like to save for Dewey's.

Tentative TBR
Shades of Magic Vol. 1: The Steel Prince (112 pgs)
The Complete Maus (296 pgs)
The Complete Persepolis (341 pgs)
Y: The Last Man, Vol. 1: Unmanned (130 pgs)
V for Vendetta (296 pgs)
Rat Queens, Vol. 1: Sass & Sorcery (128 pgs)
And I want to finish this series!
The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There (258 pgs)
The Girl Who Soared Over Fairyland and Cut the Moon in Two (248 pgs)
The Boy Who Lost Fairyland (235 pgs)
The Girl Who Raced Fairyland All the Way Home (308 pgs)
Total pages: 2,352

All physical books! Better for the eyes. I will have at least one audiobook but who knows where I'll be in my Audible list by then. And I'm going to try to have all other books I'm reading completed before Dewey's.

And I've already signed up to moderate Hour 1! :)

Added some Hoopla borrows and..added some more...lol I can't help myself and I like variety! I have too many Kindle Unlimited borrows out and they're graphic novels and short books:
Fables, Vol. 1: Legends in Exile (Kindle Unlimited)
30 Days of Night, Vol. 1 (Kindle Unlimited)
Wye (Kindle Unlimited)
The Princess Saves Herself in This One (Kindle Unlimited)
Black Sheep (Kindle Unlimited)
The Third Man (Kindle Unlimited)
Identity Thief (Kindle Unlimited)
Adulthood Is a Myth (Hoopla)
Cat vs Human Fairy Tails (Hoopla)
Lumberjanes, Vol. 6: Sink or Swim (Hoopla)
Lumberjanes, Vol. 7: A Bird's-Eye View (Hoopla)

I like to have options! ;) I don't see myself reading all of them but I like to have an idea of what I *want* to read and see it laid out plainly. Keeps me more organized.

Sounds fun! Wish I had friends or knew someone locally that participated!

I know, it's right around the corner! I wonder what Pre-Readathon plans there are. Seems pretty quiet around here for it being less than 4 weeks away. Thank you! It will be the second time I've moderated an hour. Last April (I think) I moderated the *last* hour and not much participation happened, everyone was pretty tired. lol. I'm hoping first hour will be a little more exciting so I've got to think of a good question or activity!

That's why I picked shorter books. :) During the October one I was reading books I had started before and also longer books. Meh. It's more satisfying to me to see the number of books read than the number of pages. lol.

I just joined this month via my niece's library card since my town and the town my husband works in both aren't affiliated with it. I get 3 borrows a month which is very nice and manageable. I like the graphic novel selection they have!

I use hoopla a lot for audio books. I don't for ebooks though because I am a kindle-er and my library, when they switched over to Hoopla and Axis, they did away with kindle format for ebooks. Made me mad too because I loved getting kindle books from my library.

My nooks both, while they still work great, are so old that BN no longer supports them so I can't download books to them anymore. Trying to force everyone in to upgrading doens't sit well with me. I see know reason to upgrade when I have two that still are in such good shape and work so well. I can still use them, I just have to download books to my computer and transfer them via USB to my nooks. Kobo did the same thing recently. :-(

message 195: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments @Kelley: I have the same problem with my iPad. It’s in excellent condition but it doesn’t allow any iOS updates anymore, making it very slow + unable to update certain apps. I hate it when they do that, forcing us to buy new devices 😡

I read mostly on my phone, whether it's through the Kindle app, Overdrive app, Bluefire Reader app, etc. So I don't mind that Hoopla doesn't have Kindle editions. It does seem inconvenient though!

That's crap about BN no longer supporting first gen Nooks! Amazon still supports my first gen Kindle, my husband uses it now.

@Susy: My first gen (or maybe second?) iPad is no longer supported by Apple though and it's super clunky and slow. I basically only read on it when I need a bigger screen for the Bluefire Reader app, where I have to download some e-ARCs. Or a bigger screen for the iBooks I bought when I only had iOS devices. lol. My phone is an Android so I can't access those books on it.
