message 3: by Tim (new)

Tim Schafer (srcerer) | 61 comments For SICP the existing URL is official, but http://sicpebook.wordpress.com/ clearly links to the official site as well as providing several useful links in addition to the PDF that has been created by the community from the source text. Definitely the more useful URL and would benefit anyone who discovered it via goodreads.com

Tim, in general, bookseller links do not belong in the URL field. So the Lulu link doesn't belong there.

(Exceptions are sometimes made when the linked page is the publisher's, and includes an excerpt or other additional book information not found on Goodreads, rather than just the ability to buy the book.)

Tim Schafer (srcerer) | 61 comments The book is self published, lulu just prints the paper copy, but in this case I had provided a link for the ebook format, because it's available free, so is essentially an online book. Also the author's blog from which the material was assembled isn't online any more so that PDF is authoritative at this point. I've been attempting to provide URLs for any online readable books. Using the author's site when there is one, letting that provide the link to the content. In this case the lulu page is all that's left.

Tim Schafer (srcerer) | 61 comments This one couldn't be created with ISBNs because they were already being used on the ebook edition (that's wrong right?)

Z-squared | 8575 comments re 24 and 25, URLs added. i'm not sure what you're referring to in message 25, though. what isbn?

message 27: by Z-squared (new)

Z-squared | 8575 comments oh nm, i see what you mean. fixed edition format and merged the duplicate.

message 28: by Tim (new)

Tim Schafer (srcerer) | 61 comments Thanks! The paperback seems to be missing the subtitle the other two editions have. Not sure how that happened.

RE 31: That's not a site we can use.

Not really relevant. Wikipedia's guidelines and ours are very different.

message 35: by Tim (new)

Tim Schafer (srcerer) | 61 comments Thanks. This does seem authoritative for that title: http://www.julianjaynes.org/bicameral...

It is neither a site run by the author nor the publisher of that edition. So, still no.

There is no requirement that every book have an official URL. Many will have none which qualify by Goodreads policy. Older books especially.

message 37: by Tim (new)

Tim Schafer (srcerer) | 61 comments Ok. Thanks.

message 38: by Pertinacia (new)

Pertinacia (goodreadscompertinacia) | 175 comments Please add an URL:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
http://www.varianty.cz/index.php?id=1...

It's an official URL made by a publisher and it contains useful info about the book.

Thank you very much!

Please do not add the same request to multiple threads. Facebook links are not appropriate book-specific URLs. You are of course welcome to add the Facebook link to your author profile.
