Daniel | 6 comments Alright so I don't remember any main characters of this novel but I do remember quite a bit of plot line and general information:

First off, the main character is going through a coming of age journey where he becomes a pretty big deal toward the end, the bits I remember specifically is he bonds a fire dragon and gets access to fire magic and has to return to a school to learn how to control the magic. The fire dragon also happens to be part of a dragon family and they are the only fire dragons in existence within the current world. The main character happened to bond the father of the family and I think at one point the dragon's daughter gets kidnapped. If I remember correctly there are also elite "champions" who can traverse the skies / use magic and there are 2 nations at war with each other, one of these "champions" is a traitor but it turned out to be a lot more complex than a simple turncoat in the end.

One other bit I'm recalling is that at some point the main character either communes with or bonds with the ocean. I'm a bit hazy on this, but he basically bonds with almost all the "elemental" forces of nature and if I'm recalling correctly, there was on water based bond that (possibly called nyphids?) that healed him multiple times during his fights. As the book continues he teaches the professors at the school how to commune with the elementals, one specifically hated him for the fact the he had better control over "Earth" and the main character solved this by helping that specific teacher commune with the Earth elementals.

If I had any names I could possibly figure this out myself but I've been searching for the better part of a month before I found this group, hopefully one of you guys came across this novel.

Elley Murray (elleyotter) I can't help you, but am following because HOLY COW, this sounds awesome and now I want to read it!!!

When did you read it? When you read it was it new or do you think it had been out for a while? Paper or ebook?

Daniel | 6 comments Hahaha that's generally been the response I've had, apparently my description has made people truly just want to read this and trust me it was an amazing novel so it's worth the read if I can figure it out.

I'm 90% certain it was an Ebook, and it was probably 2 years ago I read it... it seemed very modern at the time but I can't say that with 100% certainty. I'll still go with the assumption that it was released in the 2000s and isn't a classic of any sort.

Elley Murray (elleyotter) Was it a stand-alone or a series?

Daniel | 6 comments I'm sorry I honestly don't remember, I /think/ it was a series but it's a crapshoot. I remember a few more scenes from it now and a major plot device was that there was an artifact of some sort that the two nations were vying for... I believe this artifact was creating a barrier so the other nation couldn't invade and it was also powered by the elementals who were bound to it, the dragons included (I think the dragons were bound under the ice). I have a vague sense that the main character was the only one who could access the artifact but I can't remember why he needed to access the artifact, still trying to remember bits and pieces.

Elley Murray (elleyotter) Haha that's some good info! You should see the crazy google and Reddit searches I'm doing trying to find this book... ;) It's funny though, because unless some of the plot devices you remember are listed in the little 1 paragraph blurb, I might come across it and never know! Hopefully somebody on here recognizes it. :) And meanwhile, I've found several really interesting looking books to read while trying to find this one, haha!

Daniel | 6 comments Hahaha that's great! :) You can always post the ones that seem promising here, I should be able to identify it if so.

Elley Murray (elleyotter) Here are the ones I found that also looked good (but I doubt any of them are the one you're looking for, as the main characters are mostly women)
Furies of Calderon
The Book of Earth
Recurve
Jeweled Fire
Troubled Waters
Air Awakens

Elley Murray (elleyotter) Here are some that seem to be about bonding with dragons...
Sea Dragon Heir
DragonSpell
Eon: Dragoneye Reborn
The Summer Dragon

Daniel | 6 comments Furies of calderon is a really good book, if you like that i suggest looking up the Dresden Files by the same author, but no, none of those are the book I'm referring to.
