After a shaky start with the first 3 books, this series has quickly become a favorite. I only read them by audio, the narrator is one of the best.

Well, I bought the first seven books in this series when they were on sale recently and Jim Butcher is the July/August author of the month so this will be a good time for me to start (and to join in on this discussion- lol!).

Jim Butcher is a really great guy and Dresden is a really great series. I've been with the series from the very beginning. I read all of the books until Cold Days but a bunch of people were telling me what an awesome job James Marsters does reading the audio, so I listened to Cold Days. I fell in love with Marsters' narration. So my problem now is do I read Skin Game or listen to it.

You know I saw Darcy's comment before you posted, Mike, and thought, "Wow, that's pretty forceful, Darcy." Thinking she was chewing someone out. Then I read what you'd written before and started laughing. I agree I do like Marsten's version very much. It's a very different and unique style from most of the other audio narrators.

There was one book where he wasn't available and they used someone else, it really made a difference when listening to it. I really would have hated to be that guy, because no matter how good he was, he wasn't good enough.

It was Ghost Story and the narrator was John Glover whose a fantastic actor and I love his voice but he wasn't Harry :0(

      I just read

and am starting

. I am a little later starting The Dresden Files this month than I had planned because there were some books I HAD to read first- lol!

      I completed

. I did enjoy it but I found the beginning annoying and confusing, with the frequent jumps back and forth from past to present. Eventually, though, I was able to get into the story.

I wondered if there was something wrong with me since the consensus seems to be that the series really improved beginning with Grave Peril.

I've actually heard from many readers that Grave Peril was the tipping point against continuing so you are definitely not alone.
Saw the reviews of the dresden files, then read the series from the libary. A realy great series, well worth the read. Read in order though.

Cute!
I'm even postponing reading Poison Promise until I at least finish the seven I have. And I feel sure I will buy at least some of the next ones as soon as I finish these lol!
This series gets better and better! I am on number six now:

. I only have one more in my library (aka Nook HD). I will continue the series but will probably only buy two or three next month so I don't blow my entire self-imposed Nook book budget of $50 a month (usually, lol, BUT there have been exceptions!)

Hmm I will check into that so I could go ahead and read them. Then, if the books go on sale eventually I could buy them then!

      I finished

(#7) this week. I followed some excellent advice. (Thank you, Lisarenee!). I went to my local library a couple of days ago and got both digital and regular library cards. With a lot of help from a very nice lady working there, I was able to check out

on my Nook. I am currently reading

 (#8).

I love these books, they got my hooked on UF. Well, I liked it before Butcher came along, but now I'm hooked enough to buy tons of them. And I can't wait for the next one even though I will have to since I very rarely buy hardback.
There's a fan produced trailer for the next one that is very interesting--someone must have had an early copy or made up the trailer very fast.
Great stuff there.
I finished Changes today. Wow, I'd call it a rollercoaster but it was more like the old Texas Cliffhanger at Six Flags except it just kept on dropping. And, speaking of cliffhangers: that ending!!! Arrghhh! It was a great read but now I have to rush to the library tomorrow and check out the print copy of Ghost Story. Evidently, the last three are not available in digital yet at my local library. I did check out a digital copy of Side Jobs today, though, so that will tide me over a while I hope. I then followed up this tear jerker book by watching the last episode of True Blood. I really should not have put myself through that much vicarious trauma in one day, lol!

      I was able to get

 and

from the library. I started Ghost Story the other day but ended up reading some other books for a challenge and the BOM (Some Girls Bite). I finished those books so now I will resume reading Ghost Story.

Ghost story is a bit different from jims other books, i found it a refreshing change. But i enjoyed all his books in this series.

I finally finished Grave Peril and will be starting Death Masks next. I read Summer Knight prior to GP because it came in first.
