Rosemarie I have just finished reading Winnie the Pooh and will be starting The House at
Pooh Corner in a couple of days. The book is even funnier than I remember, when I used to read them to my now grown up daughters.
I am reading a book by Aphra Behn, a 17th female author, called Oroonoko and Other Writings, which is actually very entertaining. She writes with a fresh style and the stories are varied in content.

Poldark is great, wonderful series!

Rosemarie I read the Poldark books in the 70's when the first Masterpiece Theatre series was airing. I enjoyed them a lot.

The books I'm reading were published in 1979.

Rosemarie I just checked the original publishing dates for the Poldark books. The first book was published in 1945, the third in 1950.
Historical fiction ages well, if the story is interesting-and these books have great stories and engaging characters.

I agree Rosemarie. A good book is good book across the decades. They have re-published The Poldark Saga several times with the latest having Aidan Turner on the cover.

Rebeca (beckykong) | 38 comments Of all the books you read this year what were your top 5 favorites?

message 10: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie That is a hard question, since I liked so many of the books I read this year.
1. Jane of Lantern Hill by L.M. Montgomery- a reread of my favourite book by L.M.M.
2. Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose - a very powerful play
3. Dune by Frank Herbert - a reread of the science fiction that I enjoyed even more than the first time, way back in the 70s
4. So Big by Edna Ferber - an enjoyable Pulitzer prize winning novel
5. Quo Vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz - an epic historical novel
