i'm so annoyed that the book I just finished would have worked for the task: #19: Hot Drinks.
Ugh. So close to it being able to count. ://
I would like to do #30: Sweetest Day, because I can read a book set in Michigan, but I can really do any of them. I'm sure I can find something.

No worries Melanie! The book I am reading right now will cover the #19 task. 🙂I'm so excited to be in this challenge with you all (Melanie, Andrea, Kimberly, and Jamie)! 🙂
Some ideas for Round One tasks...#34 National Pasta Day (October 17)
Read a book that fits one of the following: 1) set in Italy; 2) has pasta on the cover or in its text; OR 3) has a page count that contains TWO of these numbers: 1,1,5,4.
<--This kindle book is free at Amazon and it works for this task because it has pasta in its text - "…but one nibble of the rubbery, over-salted noodles brought a grimace she couldn’t conceal" (pg. 68). Also, according to Amazon, it has 311 pages, two of the required numbers "1,1,5,4."#39 Growing in the garden
Read a book with a flower garden, vegetable garden, or fruit garden/orchard on cover. Bonus point: if the word tomato is found in the book's text.
<--This kindle book is free at Amazon and it works for this task because it has a small rose garden on the cover, and the bonus point word "tomato" can be found several times in its text - “Her own garden was yielding more tomatoes than she would be able to use by herself…” (pg. 150).
<--This kindle book is $4.99 at Amazon and it works for this task because there is a flower garden (roses) on the cover and it contains the bonus point word "tomato" in its text - "Julie eyed the side tables, groaning with dishes of chicken-and-leek pie, boiled beef and carrots, pickled onions, swedes, tomatoes, and Yorkshire pudding" (pg. 200).#14: Backyard Barbecue
*Read a book using one of the following options: 1) a barbecue grill can be found on the book’s cover or in its text; OR 2) hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks, barbecued chicken, ribs, and/or kabobs (popular grilled foods) can be found on the book’s cover or in its text.
<--This kindle book is free at Amazon and it works for this task because it has a barbecue grill and steak in its text - "Tonight’s selection is shrimp and steak, compliments of James at the grill" (pg. 81).I noticed these books are on some of your "to-read" lists. 🙂
Remember, each round we have a swap rule, where you can swap a task and instead read a book that a mod or another player has read and rated 3 stars or higher. We can only swap one task per round, and the only task I really don't want our team to swap this round is the #39 "Growing in the garden" task, because it offers a bonus point. 😉
Andrea will be back online on the 21st. I think I may be able to let you know what she will be reading, though??
Kimberly wrote: "I'm looking for something for 39 or 14. So far no luck. I will let you know.HUGS
Kim"
Did you see the suggestions I posted earlier Kimberly? I posted some free ebook options that would work well for those two tasks. :)
*HUGS*
Melanie wrote: "I could always do the garden one, if Sweetest Day works better for Jamie. :)"I'm sure Jamie will want to take you up on this offer Melanie because there are a lot more book options for the Sweetest Day task. 😊
So here's what our first team reads currently look like...Round One: Team Two
#30: Sweetest Day: Jamie
#19: Hot Drinks: Monique
#34: National Pasta Day (October 17): Andrea
#39: Growing in the garden + "tomato" bonus: Melanie
#14: Backyard Barbecue: Kimberly
Happy reading team! 😊
Hey team! Have you thought about a team name yet? What about something like Metamorphosis (with the changing of seasons in mind)?I'll be reading a Sarah Sundin book for #34: National Pasta Day. Portions of the book take place in Italy.
I am home from vacation now, feeling refreshed and ready to go! How have all of you been doing this week?
Hey Andrea! I'm glad you enjoyed your vacation! And thank you for giving us an update on your read for task #34. 😃It looks like our official team name this time around is Team Two. 😉
Today is the day of the solar eclipse! I'm so excited! Are any of you in the path of the eclipse today?
I think the eclipse will be visible here in north Texas, but my dad's been telling me we're not supposed to watch it because it might damage our eyes. *shrugs* I'm not savvy enough about weather to know, so I'm going with his thoughts on it.Melanie, is it possible for the teams to come up with a name for themselves if they want to?
Happy reading, teammates! I'm starting my book in just a few minutes. I'll be reading this one:
I didn't have it close by when I posted yesterday, and I couldn't recall the title.
Andrea wrote: "Melanie, is it possible for the teams to come up with a name for themselves if they want to?"
Definitely!
Definitely!
Awesome! Thanks, Melanie. So team: What do you think about Metamorphosis as our team name? Any other ideas to discuss?
How are y'all's books coming along? I've made a bit of progress on mine today (over 4 chapters!) during breaks from reorganizing my home. More work to do on the house and book, but both are coming along well.
Hello team! Thank you for posting your backyard barbecue task review so quickly for our first round Kimberly! 😀 Andrea wrote: How are y'all's books coming along?
It's taking me a bit longer to get through my book (for the hot drinks task) than I thought it would, however I'll for sure be finishing it today. 😀
As for the team name, I'm okay with pretty much anything. 😉
Where I was in Georgia on Monday, I was able to see a 97% solar eclipse, which was pretty amazing! I'll be living in Texas (the Dallas Fort Worth area) when the 2024 eclipse passes right through there, so I look forward to seeing a 100% totality eclipse then. Maybe we could meet up for this Andrea, if you're still in Texas. We'll need to buy some NASA approved solar eclipse watching glasses before then so we don't damage our eyes. My brother and sister-in-law currently live in Oak Point, TX.
We all should pray for southern Texas as it braces for a life threatening hurricane (hurricane Harvey) headed their way that is going to cause catastrophic damage and flooding. Most of the southern Texas coast is being evacuated. This will be the first category 3+ hurricane to make landfall in 11+ years! 😟 https://weather.com/

Oh no. This is the first I've heard of this. Will definitely pray!

Maybe we could meet up for this Andrea, if you're still in Texas."When are you moving to Texas? I'd love to meet you in person! I don't drive, though, so you'd probably have to come to my house. I live about 60 miles north of Dallas. That would be really fun to see the eclipse with you! Depending on the weather, we could do a barbecue and have cake and ice cream too. My dad's great with the grill, and I'm trying to find a homemade burger recipe I like. Surely by then I'll have one down well.
Andrea wrote: "When are you moving to Texas? I'd love to meet you in person! My family and I will be moving out to that area within 3-9 months to be close to them, and as a result I will be close to you too! I really look forward to meeting you in person too Andrea! It's fun that, judging by your picture, our hair is likely the exact same color! 😉
This is the 2024 solar eclipse path:

I wouldn't have any problem driving to your house. Barbecue, cake and ice cream with your dad and possibly others sounds like a great way to celebrate this day! 😀 I could bring some sides and/or drinks... Something to look forward to!

Sounds fun! We'll have to stay in touch in between now and then, for sure. :)

Jamie, how's that review coming along?Melanie, are you enjoying your book?
My book has had several major surprises, and I have cried (happy and sad tears, by turn) on multiple occasions. I'm about 60% done and hoping to finish it this weekend, possibly into Monday.
Thanks for the update, Monique. Well done on your book.
Kimberly, fantastic job getting through your book so fast for round one!
Jamie finished her review and I posted her round one task to our team review thread. 😀 Thank you Jamie!
Glad to hear that, Melanie. And yay for the bonus point! My book is coming along well, but I've got some last-minute preparation stuff today because tutoring starts back up tomorrow. Hopeful about finishing my book in the next day or so.
Melanie, may I put in for the name change to Metamorphosis for our team?I am 92% done with my book, so if I get all my work done tomorrow morning and afternoon, I should be able to finish On Distant Shores in the evening. That is, if I don't take a long lunch break to finish it up. ;) We'll see how that pans out.
Definitely. I'll change the name next time I get on a computer.
I'm 26% done with my book. It might take me until late in the day to finish.
