Brian Burt | 20 comments Hi:

I'm beyond my depth here and really need a Librarian's expertise to clean this up. An interviewer recently gave me a heads-up that the Amazon Buy links in Goodreads for the 3 books in my Aquarius Rising Trilogy don't consistently work. I'm guessing that it has to do with the "default" edition of each novel pointing at ISBN's instead of the ASIN? In any event, the 3rd book in the series (Price Of Eden) seems to work fine in terms of Amazon link, although it only displays the Kindle edition (not the paperback edition, also available on Amazon). The first two novels (In the Tears of God, Blood Tide) both have multiple redundant editions defined (ebook, Kindle) and the Amazon links just pop a "Page not Found" error on Amazon's site.

I'm hoping you can help me. Each book should have a Kindle edition (default) and a paperback edition (also on Amazon). They're part of the same series. And I don't know if there is supposed to be an "edition" for availability via other online booksellers (iBooks, B&N, Kobo, etc.)?

I didn't update anything because I was afraid I'd cause more confusion. If I should be cleaning this up myself, feel free to point me at any Help doc I should review on the subject.

Thanks so much for your guidance!

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments Links only work if the store you click the link for sells that edition of the book. If you click a Kobo link on the edition with an ASIN, it won't work. If you click the Amazon link on the edition with an ebook ISBN, it won't work.

The Amazon link works fine here:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
and here:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
because those are the two editions that Amazon sells. It doesn't work here:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
because Amazon does not sell that edition.

Furthermore, which links are available are customised per user, not per book. Users who don't shop at Amazon, might remove the Amazon link entirely. Users who shop at their local store, might add one for that.

The right (and only) way to have correct links is to have editions for each identifier (paperback isbn, ebook isbn, asin, nook id, hardcover isbn and whatever else there is available) and trust that experienced GR users know how to find the right edition. The editions are not redundant, because they are each unique. That's how GR works.

Empress (the_empress) Also, Librarians cannot help you with default editions.

This is something, you as an author, can set up yourself. See how here.

Brian Burt | 20 comments That clarifies things. Switching the default to the official Kindle editions did the trick for Books 1 & 2. Thanks so much for your help!

Tabitha Darling | 10 comments I have two books, two different books each with several editions, I hoped to merge them (not the two books) but the editions of each, so that it reflects only one book, per each of the two. I also attempted to remove several books off my list, and while it did reflect there, it did not remove those books on my standard goodreads profile. It only removed them via the author dashboard, which did not carry over to the user account. Thanks.

You should open new threads in the book issues folder for this kind of request.

GR does not remove out of print editions or works - if they were published, they stay. Editions of the same work should be combined. I don't see any redundant works in your list, they are all unique (unless you did not in fact have ebook editions of some of them - they do not have ISBN's)

So I have three questions:
1)Which books were you trying to remove and why? Once we know that, then we can correct the listings as appropriate.
2) Do you have ISBN's for the editions that do not currently have them?
3) Are "The Adventures of Pegasus the Pet Hen" and "Pegasus the Pet Hen" editions of the same work or are they two different books?
