ok so here are what I am considering
is there a rule about series books that they have to be whole #s not a .01 of a series? If so that means #3 is out...
What do you think would be a good one - I'm looking for something to really escape into this weekend.
Nina wrote: "This works for me too!I'll be reading Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs"
Years ago I read up to #5 and then dropped it,,,I should continue on with it,,,I keep adding the new releases to my tbr..
Cathy M. wrote: "I want to read
because I need it for another challenge so anything that will work with that one!"I think you will really enjoy this one and have some laughs along the way....
Rosina wrote: "is there a rule about series books that they have to be whole #s not a .01 of a series? If so that means #3 is out..."Nope, no rule. As long as the book is on the shelf and is 200 pages or more, which it is. So you should still consider it Rosina :)

thanks Sandra....I must be making up new rules in my head or getting confused with all the formulas in my spreadsheets....bottom line I need more sleep....
So I decided to read
shelved by two people as action packed. Bonus it will also work for another challenge.

Another outstanding series by Ilona Andrews!
I tried listening to the audiobook first but my mind kept wandering and I was so lost. I just could not understand what the Broken and what the Edge were and the way of this world. Glad I got the ebook because right from the start I was sucked in. I could not put it down and stayed up most of the night to read it.
I really liked Rose and especially loved her brothers Jack and George. Declan, on the other hand, took some getting used to but he slowly grew on me. I didn't really believe that they were all of a sudden in love but *shrugs* whatever. Also didn't understand why everyone in the Edge were such assholes (only looking out for themselves) but again, I accepted it for what it was.
I enjoyed the bits of humor in it and the world-building. This wasn't a perfect book but I didn't care enough about my gripes to let it lessen my enjoyment of it.
Kate Daniels is one of my favorite series so hoping this one ends up being just as good!
*Edit*Wait just saw the other books in this series have different MCs! But I want to know what happens with Rose & Declan & Jack & George!!! :(

This was a quick, fun read! Liked the characters and the story.
This is a story about an adventurous girl who seeks and gains employment for a quirky detective and their hunt for a murderer. There is so much fun written into this story! My favorite was chapter 13 - the only thing it said was, "this chapter was omitted at the request of my employer"! Loved it!
It is a light version of Sherlock Holmes and Jackaby, himself, reminds me of the 11th Doctor! Give the book a try - I think most people would enjoy it.
Looking forward to reading more in the series.

Review: This is #2 in the Weather Warden Series. I read the first one 3+ years ago. surprisingly still remembered parts of the story. What bugged was the chapter length. I really don't like 100+ page chapters in a 300 page book.
Yes this was a fast-paced, lots of action, and somewhat highly entertaining read. The world building is nice but takes forever to get the plot going and move on with the story. There are elements I do enjoy the uniqueness of Djinn to control the weather. I just didn't like Joanne this time I thought the comedic part fell flat. David & Lewis were characters that I enjoyed much more. Sort of a lovers triangle going on but not too intense.
will I continue the series? Most likely but not going to rush out and start the next one.
I should finish my book sometime tonight or tomorrow! As for my pick this week, I'll go with Phantom Shadows by Dianne Duvall
Okay I need to pick something now since I'm almost done with my current read so....Planning to Read

In the first book we learn about werewolves packs & on the second book, we learn more about the vampires. Now on the third book, Mercy get entangled in the dangerous world of the fae.
Her friend & mentor, Zee, asks Mercy to help investigate a series of murders, that have been happening around the fae reservation but things get a whole lot complicated when Zee gets charged with murder. The Gray Lords, rulers of the fae, have no problem letting him take the fall in order to avoid unwanted attention from the police. Of course, being the loyal & caring person & knowing that Zee is innocent, Mercy sets out to clear out his name even after being told to stay out of it, putting herself in danger.
Complicating things she has to finally come to a decision regarding her love life. I absolutely hate love triangles, it was one of the reasons why I didn't pick up this series sooner, but I understand why it was hard for her to choose between Adam & Sam. I think Briggs handle it nicely with zero drama or angst & I couldn't be happy with her decision.
Now I did not expect that final part of the book, it was just heartbreaking, intense and very traumatic for Mercy. The scene between Adam & Ben was just as heartbreaking & emotional, it shows us a different side of Ben. I just hope the next book looks more into it because no one is ready to move on that fast, no matter how strong a person is.
Overall this was a great addition to the series, one of the things that I look forward to in books is the world building & it just keeps getting better & better here.

I was hooked on these crazies from the very first book. Sometimes when you have a long running series, the new story is just a remake on an old story. But not with this series. I swear these books just get better!! I have loved watching the characters grown up. This may be my favorite to date. It's not all pep and roses either, there are some sad parts....but still very good!
Morganville is never boring - there is always a new threat, usually in the form of a new monster....that may or may not be an actual monster (this is a town of vampires....)! This time, throw in the cast from a tv ghost hunters show poking around and some newly turned ghosts.... and lots of Morganville antics!
The Vampires of Morganville, Texas own the town - they let humans live there but they have to abide by the town rules. The Founder, however, won't let the vampires kill the humans and the humans don't remember anything about the town when they are allowed to go outside the town limits. But, things happen and the balance is shifting and all kinds of chaos is rampant!
Only 2 more books in this series - I will be sad for it to end!!

This is my second time reading this series, and Phantom Shadows is still my favorite one. This series just keeps getting better as you read.
After defeating the Vampire King in the second book a new threat has come to the surface in the form of mercenaries who have a new drug that usually works on the Immortal and vampires. The leader of the mercenaries is looking to capture both the Immortals & vampires in order to create the perfect superhuman and profit from it.
We first meet Sebastien Newcombe in the first book, Darkness Dawn, as the villain. After 200 hundred years, he comes to learn that everything he knew about his life & the people in it was a lie. He becomes the black sheep of the Immortal family, because of his past he has a hard time fitting in & feels like an outsider, after 2 years of living among them. Every Immortal, except Seth & David, pretty much hates him. I really hated how they didn’t even take a moment to get to know him, to give him chance & Bastien just runs his mouth off to pissed them off more. The attraction between Bastien & Melanie has been going on since book 2, so I was really excited to read their story. Melanie was just perfect for him, she was one of the few people who really saw him, she’s strong, intelligent, funny, & feisty. Bastien tries fights the attraction not wanting the others to condemn her but Melanie doesn’t buy the whole “I’m not good for you" speech & doesn’t care what the others would think about her feelings for Bastien.
I only read to book 4 so I can’t wait to catch up before the next book comes out.

Yes! I can't I've never signed up for Bingo before. My pick for this week will be Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs
I love the Alpha & Omega series, Nina! There is a novella that is listed as #0.5 - it is the backstory for Anna, if you like Cry Wolf, you should read it. Alpha & Omega - I had to get the Anthology - On the Prowl - from the library to read it, but it was worth it! I read it first though....I've never played Bingo here either! Really glad that I did...plus this is a great team!! :-)
Alpha & Omega is really the first 70 or so pages of Cry Wolf. Definitely recommend that you read it first :)
Nope, it was never published that way. It's either a standalone as
or its in the anthology
It was originally just going to be a shortie in the anthology then PB decided to make it into a novel/series but wasn't allowed to include it with the rest of the novel.

Review: OH my gosh....I loved this!...I did audio and read along on my kindle. The narrator was very good. I don't know why I had never read this before. It is a true gothic tale.
I have read many vampire stories, from the scary (Salem's Lot) to the romantic (Twilight) but, despite it's age, this is by far the creepiest vampire novel I have read.
The old-world language and diary format lend it an air of tension to this novel that is lacking in other vampire books that I have read. I found this story to be intriguing and enthralling and I found myself unable to put it down.
Johnathan Harker isn't the most interesting of characters, rather bland Count Dracula is always written about in the third person. I really enjoy the epistolary form of conveying the story and I think Bram Stoker did a pretty good job of creating different voices. Van Helsig...Dracula's nemesis and the most complex good guy in the entire book.
Stoker does a terrific job with setting the stage and moving the story along. He creates a monster that is genuinely terrifying because he is so inhuman and doesn't play by the rules of well-mannered Victorians. He is terrifying because you never know what form he'll take. Perhaps one of the more frightening aspects of Dracula isn't the actual vampire so much as his ability to control mere mortals and even drive them to the point of madness...there's a very fine line between sanity and madness sometimes and I think that point is driven home quite well in Dracula.
This is the original vampire novel and, in my opinion, still the best.
Great that you liked it so much Rosina! I've wanted to read it for a while but never quite got there.I DID finish my vampires book but haven't had a chance to log it yet. Work has been busy and I'm so tired right now I just can't...
Will do that tomorrow promise! And will pick my book for this new shelf. Wasn't one I was looking forward to (or at least had a book already picked out for)...

Book: Say You're Sorry
Author: Melinda Leigh
Date Read: Sept 15

Review:
I read this spin-off without first having read the connecting series, Scarlet Falls, but I had no issues with the characters or the story and how everything was connected. Leigh made this series it's own and while there may have been references and things that I would have caught if I had read the initial series, I don't think it was needed to enjoy the book - which I did!
The story is all about the mystery of Tessa's death and it was intriguing and a little complicated. There were several suspects over the course of the story and there were of course twists that made took the investigation in totally different directions. Some of these misdirections were a mini mystery all it's own. I had my own suspects, one I was quite sure would be the murderer....but I was wrong!
This is tagged as Romantic Suspense - but there is very little romance, just a spark of attraction between two characters. It is more Suspense/Mystery.
Overall a good read. I will continue to read the series.

Review:
This series is SO different from what I initially expected. I thought it was going to be another silly cozy mystery-type series, but with that cover, I think that's to be expected. Luckily it's much better with lots of action, some funny scenes/dialogue, is more focused on the supernatural aspects rather than romance, had likable characters. It was a fun and entertaining read.
I liked Jade for the most part. She's coming into her own, learning more about her abilities but her guilt over Sienna in the first half of the book started to get old. She brought it up in almost every scene! Didn't expect (view spoiler)
Loved the edition of Scarlet. She's one cool mama :) Didn't feel like there was much to her relationships with Kett (beyond being her mentor/teacher) and Desmond (aka McGrowly) so I'm not sure if either one will end up being an actual love interest. Assuming that will come up eventually.
Even though I did give it 4 stars I believe the pacing of the story could've been better. There were some ups and downs for me. It started off right with the action, and then slowed way down. Rinse and repeat a couple times. But luckily it did speed back up around the halfway point (at which point I really started getting into the story) but it ended with a damn cliffhanger! (view spoiler)
So yes I was a little confused at that ending but it WAS one hell of a cliffhanger so I'll let it pass for now because at the end of the day I did enjoy it and I do plan on reading the next book soon...["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Review:
I just recently started reading Patrica Briggs book & I couldn't be more glad I did, I just love her writing & her world building. The story actually begins in the anthology On the Prowl, & this book picks up right after that. I think I like the novella more than the first book, although one thing I really liked about this book was the multiple POV’s.
We meet Anna, who was Changed without her consent & has been brutalized for the past 3 years by her former pack. After the abuse she has endured, she’s very skittish around those who are more dominant than her & she’s still trying to come to terms with being a werewolf. But she’s not entirely fragile, she has her moments where she stands up for herself, no matter who scared she is. I like the relationship between Charles & Anna, he gave her strength & in return Anna calms & gives him peace. What I didn’t like was the miscommunication between them, it annoyed me.
Besides the romance between the Mc’s the story focuses more on another character, Asil, & his long-dead mate and a dark witch. We learn more about witches and their powers which I found very interesting. I love reading Bran’s POV, his background story & his relationship with Leah, his mate, who even though is pretty much a bitch I still felt sorry for her. The plot was intriguing and slow pace but overall it was a great story and easy to read.

Review:
So I loved this book but...
I feel I was a little at a disadvantage not having read the original Elder Races series because there were a couple things that confused me. The author does not adequately explain everything, more specifically their world. I didn't figure out what a Wyr was until about 25% in, and I STILL have no idea what the hell the Elder Races are. It's like the author throws you in but never builds it up. Maybe that's because this IS a spin-off.
I love fae stories and the author's "take" on it was interesting. But there are certain elements that are almost always the same - fae cannot lie, never thank a fae, things like that. So every time Nikolas (even if he is only partly fae) did those things it just didn't jive with me. Little petty things I know but I found that strange.
Sophie was a great strong heroine BUT her snark got old toward the end. She was always arguing and bickering with Nikolas, though he did try to pull the alpha-male card at every corner. I did like the 2 mcs a lot but the humor/cuteness of it wore off after a while.
Despite those things, I couldn't put down the book. I've had the 1st book for the Elder Races series for a while and this just made me want to read it more. I also saw that there is already a 2nd book in this particular series which I will definitely be reading but I am a little hesitant to read it considering the mc is one of the villains in this one. We'll see how well that goes!
