Title/Author: A Demon Bound by Debra Dunbar
Series: Imp #1
Date Read: 10/6/2017
Shelf: Demons
Pages: 294
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Review: Samantha is an Imp that crossed over from her demon dimension and living on Earth as a real estate investor/ landlord, hiding from angels that guard earth and kill all demons that they discover. Her hellhound encounters a werewolf that she kills and as re-payment for the death, the local pack leader manipulates her into finding and killing the angel that has been targeting werewolves like a serial killer. Her hot neighbor and crush, Wyatt ends up being pulled into the hunting team which eventually crosses paths with the angel Gregory, who is also searching for the murderous angel. The good: the humor and banter keeps it less vicious and bloody, along with her ability to heal and re-generate new parts. Her slow burning relationship with Wyatt was entertaining too. The bad: still didn't completely grab me, and not a big fan of the triangle / but not a triangle thing that is going on. Liked the story but not in a hurry to run out and grab #2 just yet.

Title/Author: The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley
Series: Slains #1
Date Read: 10/10/2017
Shelf: Magical Realism
Pages: 544
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: This was like a reading bonus with two stories in one... Carrie is a writer of historical fiction and visiting her agent in Scotland when she is inspired by the castle ruins of Slains. She plans to write of the Jacobite rising in the early 1700s and roughly intertwine her family ancestors in the mix. After she rents a cottage near the ruins the books starts to write itself as her character Sophia's POV begins to resemble true history vs fiction when she starts fact checking. Carrie also meets two brothers who are both attracted to their father's new renter. The good: Rosalyn Landor has to be one of my all time fav narrators and her Scottish and English accents are the best... the not so good: even though this is a series, it only has one more book and doesn't seem to share any characters. Absolutely pleased that Bingo had me stumble across this little reading gem...

Judithe ~ A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle 5✮ 10/7/17

Thoughts:
Had a brief moment of panic when I first saw this shelf...most of the books were just in the "too much" for me right now...and then I saw this nostalgic gem.
Very old novel, but it had a wait-list at the library. A little scouting around, and judicious use of credit card points got me the Time Quintet basically for free...and mine forever. Now that I've finished all but the 5th, and with a shelf in a few hours, thought I should take a break and write a review.
I first read and loved it as a child. I cannot count how many times I have read it since.
Meg Murray is in that awkward stage of adolescence. On top of that, her father is gone. Village gossip is a bit unkind, school is difficult, and something is in the air. Meg, her younger brother Charles Wallace and their new friend Calvin unbeknownst to themselves follow their father's research-footsteps in the fifth dimension of time travel as they try to rescue him with some fantastical help/guidance.
There are many gems of ideas in this book, and it is a pleasure to read at any stage of life. I look forward to visiting again!

Add me to the club! OOPS! Fixed now!

Judithe ~ A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle 5✮ 10/7/17..."
Saw that book too and almost went for it, but opted for an audiobook I had on hand and I could read "on the go" since I haven't had time to sit and read.
Been so crazy busy lately and haven't had time to really enjoy this round of Bingo as I usually do, which is sad. Fall sports season is wrapping up in the next couple of weeks, but it looks like Bingo is close to being called too, argh...

I jumped right on this book after finishing the last one. I was lucky to not have to wait and I can't be objective when it comes to this writing duo. Totally love Nevada, how family is very important and her views are for corrupted with long Houses feud and greed.
The only problem I have is....where are the other Houses? What are they doing to prevent this apocalypse? Are they all in this plot aside from House Rogan and Baylor?

I've had a bunch of wait-listed books drop into my hands this week...off to read and/or sleep.

Review: I'll be honest first and admit that I have little to no idea what alchemy is and exactly how it works. ( Near as I can figure its magic but with chemicals instead of just plain magic.) So there were some parts of this book that I just didn't understand, and I'm hoping will be better explained in later books. BUT, I did enjoy just about everything else in this book. I thought the characters were well drawn and were more than just YA stereotypes. I liked that the mean instructor had reasons for the way he was. I liked the way the world was set up and the rules that were involved. I'm excited to read the next book in the series --although I'm a little disappointed to find out its now a 5 book series rather than the trilogy I thought it was.

Review: Aww man. I love bears. They sound like a group I would want to hang out and have a beer with. This is one of the few series that I still follow after the first 5-6 books, and I loved this one. Singh has made a nice transition to the post - Silence world in this series but hasn't lost a beat in telling great stories about characters that just make you smile. So many threads and directions she could go from here -- I can't wait.

Off to browse more of the 2015 shelf... first couple of pages are a bust, unless you've been in hurry to read "Elon Musk: Inventing the Future"

I’ve head mixed reviews about Mermen but nothing on Dragon Fall.

Title/Author: Storm Gathering by Rebecca Zanetti
Series: Scorpius Syndrome #4
Date Read: 10/19/2017
Shelf: Science Fiction
Pages: 359
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: Love a good apocalyptic tale and the Scorpius series is one of my must reads. This is the continuing saga of post Scorpius infection that wiped out the majority of the human population and the survivors that are fighting the gangs, rippers and sociopaths created by the infection. That includes the president and his military elite who are not the good guys. This follows Raze's sister Maureen, a bioengineer and the Merc leader Greyson. Vanguard camp located in LA, has been the focus of most of the series, but this one takes us to the Merc beach camp and the bunker where Maureen is researching food and crop options for their future. Action and romance filled goodness...

Judithe ~ The Sweetest Burn by author:Jeaniene Frost|669810] 4✮ 10/16/17

by Jeaniene Frost (bless that one person!)
Shelf 10: 10/12/17: Science Fiction
Date finished: 10/16/17
Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts:
Well, it really didn't match the shelf, but it was still there.
This is the second in the series, and frankly, I'd forgotten most of book one. I got up to speed pretty quickly, but also remembered not being so into/invested in the characters. As I really, really love Cat & Bones and the other spin-off series, it was a bit disappointing for me. I hesitated a little on the rating but rounded up.
Ivy successfully found the first weapon, rescued her sister, and ended up with a broken heart. The heart-breaker, Adrian, is back, and wants a second chance to prove himself to her and to also break the curse.
It's an exciting and action-packed story. Some neat reveals, and some big, big events. I'm still not a total, gushing fan of the series, but enjoy it, and do want to see what happens in the end. Looking forward to book 3, but will grab it at the library rather than pre-order.

Judithe ~ Dragon Fall by Katie MacAlister 4✮10/21/17

by Katie MacAlister
Shelf #11 ~ 10/18/17: Published 2015
Date finished: 10/21/17
Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts:
I went through a binge read of MacAlister's series a few years back, then took a break. After a hiatus, I really, really enjoyed the story, and didn't feel some of the snark-overwhelm, etc. that I had before. (Still a bit clueless on some cultural-type references, but not to the point of googling it!)
Aoife Dakar has just gotten out of a mental institution...to which she was sent for seeing some rather extraordinary things. She definitely doesn't want to go back, and is on track to a rather ordinary life. Or not.
After accidentally hitting a dog (well, actually a demon, not that she realized that), she came home to find an unconscious man (well, he's a dragon, and she finds that out pretty quick) on the beach near her house. His name is Kostya, he's determined not to fall for Aoife, and is even more certain he won't take her as his mate. He's got to break a curse, and save the dragon clans.
Nothing ever works out as planned, and the twists and turns in the not-working-out make it a fun, funny and dragon-hot read. Adding the next one to my TBR!

It's the mark of a good author for a series to still go strong after 20 books. Granted it's not great literary feat but entertaining nonetheless. I was glad that the story took place back in Canada compared to the previous installments.
The hero and heroine were introduced earlier (Scotty and Beth) books and finally got their story told. With the news lately about sexual harassment and rape.....I saw Scotty and Beth's story in a new light. It's easy to assume that someone is not good enough or will never overcome her past just because it was the hand she was dealt with.
Quick and fun read.

Requested the stamp for Science fiction.

Title/Author: Mermen by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff
Series: The Mermen Trilogy #1
Date Read: 10/23/2017
Shelf: Published 2015
Pages: 249
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Review: So I went for the Mermen to change things up a bit and have mixed feelings. Liv is working on her doctorate degree and researching bonds and relationships by observing a group of fisherman when their ship goes down and she's the lone survivor that is pulled to an island full of huge hunky he-men. Roan, a billionaire playboy is also checking on his missing ship and also finds himself on this mysterious island after his helicopter crashes. So strange pull and attractions form as they work together to get off the island, but Roan plays protector and does the right thing for Liv. He also is pulled deeper into the mystery of the island. Parts were good, some parts predictable and some parts just didn't make sense. MJPs writing style isn't all warm and fuzzy and not your book if your looking for that HEA. Down side is this ends on a cliffhanger, so you are warned...

Feel like there was a lot of "real life" interfering with this round... Sorry, I didn't get as chatty and involved as past rounds, but still enjoyed it and got a lot of reading in that I needed to do. Looks like the winning team completed their books, so this is another round done. Hope to cross paths again in future rounds and happy reading...

Oh well, it was fun to play with you all. I got to knock a few books from my neverending TBR list.

Hope to see you all again in future rounds!

Not much to say about this book. It was pretty predictable and the plot did not advance very much. Not much is being told about the new governance structure, Merit does not resolve her issues with the RG or about the prophesy.

The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker
Date finished: 10/27/2017
Rating: 5✮

This book features magic from Kabbalah and Arabic myths with, in the backdrop, the lives of immigrants in New York City in 1899.
A romance between two very unusual but well-matched individuals.
I would give it a 10 stars if I could.
