Hi Becky and other Mods, like Cynthia and others who have pointed out in the other forums here, because there are so many threads to this group, it is hard to know where people should post their comments. The introduction forum is good for people new and coming into this group. Maybe we need simplify and condense a lot of the topics and also have a centralise forum where people post there first for general discussions?

The simple answer is time. Moderators are all volunteers. We commit free time to the maintaining of this group. There isn't a quick way to move and condense folders. All topics need to be individually moved. That's why we ask the group members to be considerate and spend some time looking through topics and threads before creating new ones.

Hey all! Just a PSA because there was no actual announcement: Goodreads, in an apparent effort to combat spam, has changed the privacy settings on all accounts to friends only for messaging. This will prevent everyone from receiving group newsletters unless you have friended your mods or manually change your settings to allow non-friend messages. I know we tend to live by newsletters for polls and Book of the Month stuff, so thought I'd post a heads-up.
Hi Emily, I know Cornwell has been around for a long time but I can't recall reading any of this work although I enjoyed the TV adaptation of his Sharp series. I have read Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael series. I think she was writing around the same time as Cornwell and I gravitated to her.
Thank you for the suggestion, Susanna! I greatly appreciate it. Cornwell's Saxon Series has also been adapted to the television...also a movie coming out soon to complete the series. I enjoyed the Sharpe novels, I have not watched the television adaption. I will check it out! I love BBC programming. I look forward to diving in the Cadfael series- will check it out soon! What are you currently reading? Are you enjoying it?
I've just about finished West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. I 've liked it. It's based on a real event and I've been pleasantly surprised. It's good to be mates, as Australians say.

Yes, thank you for adding me. Sounds interesting! I have added it to my list. Happy Reading!
I saw a number of comments relating to Jess Kidd's Night Ship and others books on the Batavia shipwreck off the coast of Western Australia. May I recommend Howard Gray's Lucretia's Batavia Diary which although historical fiction is a more vivid and accurate account of the events than others I've read. Dr Gray lives on the Batavia Coast in WA and as a historian, explorer and guide to the Abrolhos Islands, he has been the go expert for many who have written on this subject including Jess Kidd.
Guys, this thread is for questions about the group, not book discussions or recommendations. Please feel free to comment in or start another thread for that.

This is a question (so it appears to be the right place to post it) but slightly general.I've had a couple of people approach me via this group, (1 wanting to interview me, and 1 wanting to review my book...which I haven't written yet, which makes me suspicious). When I click on the person's Goodreads profile - there is nothing, no posts, no reviews, no picture et.c.
I assume these are scammers?
Has anyone had similar approaches.
I've had 2 today...

Have a good evening.
I'm new-ish, and still haven't navigated my way fully around the site. I want to post about a book I've just finished (also would like to review it.) What coding should I use to highlight and link it in my post? ... and is 1969 Wales acceptable for Historical Fiction? Nicola B.
I am trying to find the post that tells us the book that is chosen for March 2025. Can anyone tell me where I can find this information? Thanks in advance.

We don't announce the winners in a thread post. There are a few ways that you can find the winner though:
1) Look at the poll results. Either click the link from the poll announcement message, or click "Polls" in the Group sidebar menu that's on every page. Then look for the month you need, and see which book won.
2) Look on the group homepage > currently reading section. The upcoming book is (usually*) displayed there. I know it WAS there recently, because I checked it myself, but it doesn't seem to be now.I think GR may be having some bugs. Nope - we just needed to change the shelf to Currently Reading, because it's not going to display the UPCOMING book if it's supposed to have started already. Whoops!
3) Look at the group bookshelf, again from the sidebar menu. The shelf is sorted by added date, so the most current group read book will be right up top - but definitely double check the start/end read dates to be sure.
March's group read is The Women. :) Now I'm off to check why the group read book isn't displaying on the homepage correctly... wish me luck! ---> Fixed!

Working hard to get to 25, but with good submissions as comments. My comment here is it would be good to see some author’s join in at some time during the month to take questions. The selection process turns out great selections, and a good number are available to me. I have some access restrictions. I am blind, but the Library of Congress comes to my rescue via their BARD service for the blind and visually impaired. It would also be good to occasionally have a moderater drop a question as a follow up during a discussion.
Thank you for letting me join. Hm. I have a question about a book I didn't know I had, but found in my closet: The Tokaido Road: A Novel of Feudal Japan by Lucia St. Clare Robson.
I don't think I've read it yet. Meant to (it's part of my obsession with Japan at the time I must have bought it - from anime to it's ancient history. I even have the 6 volume cambridge series on it's history and one on the Jomon) but I think I got sidetracked by other project reads and it sort of slipped my mind. Fast forward to now - I've seen the blurb, but has anyone else read it, and what do they think about it? Is it worth reading? (I have another Japanese-themed one titled The Snow Fox, but I think that one is more fantasy/folk-tale based, so I'll ask about that in a different group)
Welcome Carol - you should create a thread in the Historical Fiction Discussions folder to talk about the book, or in the Recommendations folder if you are looking for recommendations.
This thread is specifically for questions about the group or how to navigate it. :)
