We finished up Shiver this weekend and are SO ready to dive straight in to Linger!

We love the opening line:
This is the story of a boy who used to be a wolf and a girl who was becoming one.

The first time you read this book, did you have any theories about why Grace might start turning into a wolf now?

What are some of your favorite quotes from Linger?

Looking forward to the discussion!

Julia P (juliagulia07) “Avoiding a bathtub because your parents tried to kill you in one isn't the same as avoiding your entire life by becoming a wolf.” -Cole
and
“Flickering lights
anonymous doors
my heart escaping in drips
i'm still waking up
but she's still sleeping
this ICU is
hotel for the dead” -Sam (one of my favorite poetry-lyric things from any of these books)

Amy | 1 comments I just finished it for the first time about ten days ago.
My favorite part was Cole's ego realizing his base audience was tweens, not women.

Cole's ego in general is definitely one of our favorite parts of the series. We always loved Cole and Isabel's interactions, but we forgot just how funny it is the first time they meet! Why do you guys think they connect so quickly? And what are some of your favorite Cole/Isabel moments?

What did you guys think when Sam was kicked out of Grace's room? Can you sympathize with Grace being upset with her parents?

On a side note, had any of you read Rilke's poetry before this book?

Stavroula hey guys i just finished shiver and im starting to reread linger!!

We were so worried about her, too!

OK, real talk: What was everyone's reaction when (view spoiler)

Leanne (labridged) These books are so incredible. I'm appreciating that fact more than I did the first time I read them. I still remember the day I was introduced to them: I mentioned to the bookstore owner that I loved wolves and he recommended Shiver. Forever had just come out. I read the first chapter of Shiver and loved it so much I ordered the whole set in hardback...they came weeks later from the US. I had to convert all the temperatures to degrees C so I could guess who was in what form.

And I also have a few of Rilke's works. Have a tattoo based on [The almond trees in blossom] on my forearm.

Love that you did all the temperature conversions AND that you have a Rilke-themed tattoo! So cool!

We're finishing up Linger today and (very, very quickly) moving on to Forever because we just have to know what happens to Grace!! (And Olivia, Sam, Cole, and Isabel...)

The first time you read Linger, did you hypothesize about causes/cures for the wolves? Or did you sit back to see where Maggie took things?

Leanne (labridged) When I read Maggie, I don't think on it too much. Like lifting your feet up and letting the current take you. Trusting the journey will be a wild one, and knowing the scenery will be stunning. I just let her words do what they were designed to do- show me what it is to be human, raise questions to be pondered, and make me FEEL.

Brooke (thecovercontessa) My favorite character of the series is Cole I didn't think it would be but I really grew to like him. His ego is actually hilarious!
The kicking out of her room, while I was sad for her, I understood their position as parents.

Poetry was incredible and touching and fit in sooooo well! And I loved finally meeting Cole and also getting their points of view. :D
And yeah that kicking out of the room was acceptable, but it was kinda a side effect for the way her parents had treated her in the past and she was going to rebel sooner or later. I can see it as something that would happen in real life, not that I'd know.

And I was trying to think of cures and things to make them better all through it and nothing came close to bringing science into the fantasy book!

But I loved it! I thought it was very original and glad it wasn't something cliche. Absolutely amazing complex thinking behind the series. There are hardly any flaws I can pick out in this series! It's too perfect!

Renee About that spoiler... I CRIED! YES I DID! and it was a good wake up call to Cole, because from then on he started thinking about what he'd done more, the guilt managed to make him think about his life and how he could improve rather than just wallowing around pissing people off.

۞the Little | 1 comments I loved this book and everything in it. I have read this book to many times to count and am so glad to be a part of this group!

*Spoiler*
I'm so glad that Grace became a wolf and it killed me with the ending of the book same with Forever. I think Grace becoming a wolf was a necessary change and I totally agree with Cole about the reason it happened.

*Not spoiler*
I love this book, 10/10!

This was really well stated and I agree completely. Especially the part where you said Maggie shows us what it means to be human.

Miriam | 10 comments I don't remember any specific quotes but I do remember my favorite part was when they introduced Cole's story

Debbie Krumme | 9 comments I just finished rereading Linger. What strikes me most this time around is how there is a constant flip side to everything. Examples: Cole and Isabel only tell each other secrets because they don't think it matters to the other, but Sam tells his boss because he knows it will. While Cole wants to forget and be a wolf, Sam and Jack risked everything not to. Even Grace's favorite song only brings back sad memories for Sam.
As a parent I could understand the reaction to finding Sam, but I agree with Grace- far too little, too late.
My favorite song lyrics in this book-
One thousand ways to say good'bye
One thousand ways to cry
One thousand ways to hang your hat before you
go outside
I say good-bye good-bye good-bye
I shout it out so loud
Cause the next time that I find my voice I might
not remember how.

Renee oh god, that part always makes me cry too!
But I love that poem. So beautiful. And I always love reading that part.
I've lent Shiver to my cousin but I still have the other two so yay I can flip through it!

And I love meeting Cole and getting to know Isabel in Linger. Personally, I just love Isabel's sass! I can just feel all her emotions as I read!
