It’s summer and time to dig into some great summer reads! Join our Northern Community Radio Summer Reading Challenge. We’re encouraging listeners to see how many books they can read while enjoying our beautiful northern Minnesota summer.

It’s easy to take part: let us know what books you've read between June 12th through July 10th, and let us know what you thought about them. And for those of you who like a real challenge, and because it's baseball season, we’re encouraging you to “Read for the Cycle": Read a book from these 4 different genres: General Fiction, Non-Fiction, Mystery/Thriller, and Young Adult. Basically, we're encouraging you try a book our of your genre, if you want! Check back here soon—we’ll be posting recommendations in each of these genres from other readers.

Are you game?

Kate i read Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta for YA and for me it was four stars. i liked the mystery and the voice felt authentic in the POV of a teen.

I'll add my other reads as i finish them.

Jenny | 12 comments Just finished Once in Blue Moon Lodge by Lorna Landvik. Fast summer read. Interesting characters and you may learn a little Norwegian along the way.

Jenny | 12 comments Also read Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko for the Thriller/Mystery portion. Translated from Russian, it's a sci-fi thriller with a moral battle going on. I thought it was fun and I enjoyed it. Actually may read another book by this author.
Night Watch (Watch #1) by Sergei Lukyanenko

Thanks for posting your books, everyone! Here are even MORE recommendations from the FB side of our What We're Reading community. http://kaxe.org/post/summer-reading-r...

Also, we've extended our end date to August 12th to give people more time to get into some great books! Keep reading and posting!

Jenny | 12 comments For the Non-Fiction entry, I just finished The Amazon Way: 14 Leadership Principles Behind the World's Most Disruptive Company and really got me thinking about the way typical corporations do business. I've met the author and he was legit. He is now a partner at A&M and still uses these principles with his clients. Great read, but don't expect your company's leadership to buy into everything in it... It's a whole new way of thinking. The Amazon Way 14 Leadership Principles Behind the World's Most Disruptive Company by John Rossman

Jenny | 12 comments DONE! I finished my YA book at 11:30-ish Saturday night (8/12)!! My YA book was Shadow Falls: The Beginning: Born at Midnight and Awake at Dawn (A Shadow Falls Novel) by CC Hunter. I bought it as a birthday gift for my teenage daughter and we both loved it. I think I liked it more than she did. I'm a sucker for a good series. It was definitely a fun read. It's two novels in one book--who doesn't love that!
The Beginning Born at Midnight and Awake at Dawn (Shadow Falls, #1-2) by C.C. Hunter

Lissa Carlino | 1 comments What a great list! I’m late to this party but wanted to jump in. I’m currently reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas & it is AMAZING! A hard subject to read about but still very worth the time. To follow up with something light, I’d also like to recommend Where’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple. Super fun read!

Also, if anyone is interested, my book, Woman Enough is out! I’d love some readers and reviewers to help create some buzz for me before I visit Minnesota in July! I’ll be holding a book signing July 15 at 1pm at Stonehouse Coffee in Baxter if anyone would like to meet up & talk books! :)
