Barb | 1895 comments Connie, the cover of In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren really jumped out at me, maybe because of all that green? I've heard good things about the book too, so I hope you like it :)

My next five :
The Weather Machine A Journey Inside the Forecast by Andrew Blum A Wicked Yarn (A Craft Fair Knitters Mystery #1) by Emmie Caldwell I, Eliza Hamilton by Susan Holloway Scott Murder Ink (A Writer for Hire Mystery, #1) by Betty Hechtman StrawBuried in Chocolate (Black Cat Cafe #2) by Lyndsey Cole

Heh-- I read it last week. The other four are still fair game though.

Connie N. | 3775 comments OK, Jennifer, then I choose Between Black and White (McMurtrie and Drake Legal Thrillers, #2) by Robert Bailey . I've had my eye on that one previously, so it's time I finally pick it for you.

message 504: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3775 comments Thanks, Barb, a holiday book that starts with "I"!

message 505: by Jennifer (last edited Nov 21, 2020 08:47AM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) @ Connie -- excellent choice because this will finish that series for me!

@Barb -- i pick I, Eliza Hamilton by Susan Holloway Scott so you, in turn, get an I title. I read that and enjoyed it a while back.

My next five:
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia A Death Long Overdue (Lighthouse Library Mystery, #7) by Eva Gates On Borrowed Crime (Jane Doe Book Club Mystery, #1) by Kate Young A Murderous Tangle (Seaside Knitters Society Mystery #14) by Sally Goldenbaum The Meryl Streep Movie Club by Mia March

message 506: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Thanks, Jennifer. I added that to my list after watching Hamilton and can't wait to read it. I know it's historical fiction, but I would like to learn more about her.

I've read several historical novels about Eliza Hamilton and as I recall, this one was the best.

@Connie -- I finished what I was reading this morning and since your pick for me here was on my mind, I started it immediately. Just finished it --4 stars! Thank you.

Connie N. | 3775 comments Jennifer, I pick A Murderous Tangle (Seaside Knitters Society Mystery #14) by Sally Goldenbaum for you. It's a rainy cold day today, and that looks like the perfect spot to curl up with a good book (instead of going to work, which I'll be doing in a few minutes)!

I'm still gathering my upcoming holiday reading, so here are a few more:

Christmas on Mistletoe Lane (Sweetwater Springs, #1) by Annie Rains The Corner of Holly and Ivy (Harmony Harbor, #7) by Debbie Mason Christmas With You by Heidi McLaughlin The Gift Home for Christmas / All I Want for Christmas / Gabriel's Angel by Nora Roberts Christmas at Lilac Cottage (White Cliff Bay, #1) by Holly Martin

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) So Connie, I again found myself serendipitously between books so I finished THIS book you picked for me too (if only i could get caught up on the other 9...)! A Murderous Tangle (Seaside Knitters Society Mystery #14) by Sally Goldenbaum 4 stars.

I'm picking Christmas on Mistletoe Lane (Sweetwater Springs, #1) by Annie Rains for you because I love those snow scenes as long as I'm not looking at them around a shovel handle...

My next five:
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia A Death Long Overdue (Lighthouse Library Mystery, #7) by Eva Gates On Borrowed Crime (Jane Doe Book Club Mystery, #1) by Kate Young The Meryl Streep Movie Club by Mia March Ladies' Night by Mary Kay Andrews

message 513: by Connie N. (last edited Dec 11, 2020 02:24PM) (new)

Connie N. | 3775 comments It's been a while, Jennifer, so I never know which books are still available from your 5.

My first choice is Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia because I love the color combination and the bold look.

If you've already read that one, then my second choice is The Meryl Streep Movie Club by Mia March because of the nice summery look.

I'll try to squeeze in one more set of Christmas possibilities:

The Corner of Holly and Ivy (Harmony Harbor, #7) by Debbie Mason The Christmas Table (Christmas Hope, #10) by Donna VanLiere Christmas at Lilac Cottage (White Cliff Bay, #1) by Holly Martin I'll Be Home for Christmas by Karen Clarke Let It Snow by Nancy Thayer

Barb | 1895 comments Finally finished the book Jennifer chose for me awhile ago, and liked it as much as she said I would :)

message 518: by Jennifer (last edited Jan 13, 2021 01:19PM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Barb, I was going to pick “muscadine” for you but I already did in another challenge today. So I pick Six Cats a Slayin' (Cat in the Stacks, #10) by Miranda James .

My next five:

Witching For Grace (Premonition Pointe, #1) by Deanna Chase The Sometimes Sisters by Carolyn Brown Booked for Death (Booklovers B&B Mysteries #1) by Victoria Gilbert To Kill a Mocking Girl (Bookbinding Mystery #1) by Harper Kincaid The Girl On Legare Street (Tradd Street, #2) by Karen White

All still up for grabs as of 01/13.

message 519: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Perfect timing, Jennifer, thanks! I'm about to start that in the next day or two so I can read it while the holiday thing is still somewhat timely :)

message 520: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Finished the book Jennifer chose for me and enjoyed it as much as I expected to. How can you not like Diesel and his antics? This one was especially fun "watching" Diesel deal with kittens :)

Six Cats a-Slayin' (Cat in the Stacks #10), by Miranda James, finished 12/30 ★★★★
Six Cats a Slayin' by Miranda James

message 521: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Again, it's been awhile since you posted your next five books, Jennifer, so I'll choose two -- one as a backup in case you've already read the first choice :)

First choice : Booked for Death (Booklovers B&B Mysteries #1) by Victoria Gilbert
Backup : The Sometimes Sisters by Carolyn Brown

I actually still have both unread, so the Victoria Gilbert it is!

message 524: by Jennifer (last edited Mar 14, 2021 12:36PM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) And I'm going to go ahead and pick for you because I recently read Buzz Off (Queen Bee Mystery, #1) by Hannah Reed and liked it.

My next five:
Witching For Grace (Premonition Pointe, #1) by Deanna Chase To Kill a Mocking Girl (Bookbinding Mystery #1) by Harper Kincaid The Girl On Legare Street (Tradd Street, #2) by Karen White Lana's War by Anita Abriel The Daydream Cabin by Carolyn Brown

message 526: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3775 comments I finished Barb's pick from Post #516:

The Corner of Holly and Ivy by Debbie Mason - 1/23/21 ♥♥♥
The Corner of Holly and Ivy (Harmony Harbor, #7) by Debbie Mason

I didn't love it, but I think that was mostly because it was a NetGalley book that turned out to the #7 in a series. Since I hadn't read any of the previous books, it was a little confusing. But I did like it enough to want to go back and start the series from the beginning. So thanks, Barb.

message 527: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments I really wish NG would tell you if a book was part of a series before you request it. Yes, we can look on GR, but sometimes GR doesn't have series info either -- and sometimes the book isn't even shown on GR yet :(

Glad you liked it enough to go back and start the series :)

message 528: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Finished the book Jennifer chose for me a few posts ago. I liked it, but the bullet points were annoying and seemed like a way for the author to include things she couldn't figure out how to work into the normal prose of the story. I hope that's not a thing for the entire series!

Buzz Off (Queen Bee #1), by Hannah Reed, finished 3/12 ★★★.5

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I haven't read the second one yet to see. I found myself skipping those so I guess they annoyed me too...

message 530: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Jennifer, if you haven't already read it, I'm choosing To Kill a Mocking Girl (Bookbinding Mystery #1) by Harper Kincaid for you. I've got it on hold at the library and would love to know what you think of it :)

My next five :
Fellowship of Fear (Gideon Oliver, #1) by Aaron Elkins Deadly Editions (Scottish Bookshop Mystery) by Paige Shelton The Darkest Evening (Vera Stanhope, #9) by Ann Cleeves The Cake Therapist by Judith M. Fertig What Happens in Paradise (Paradise, #2) by Elin Hilderbrand

Well, as it happens, I finished the Kerry Greenwood audiobook I was reading about five minutes ago, and in the interest of efficient library functionings I am starting the one you just chose right now.

message 532: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Barb, I’m about two-thirds through To Kill a Mocking Girl (Bookbinding Mystery #1) by Harper Kincaid and I can say that the murder is interesting, the dog is wonderful, the sidekick and her backstory are pretty unique in cozy mystery-land, the red herring villain is unusual, some of the evidence our sleuth digs up isn’t all that common in a cozy, the family business is a bookstore, and the main character is appealing. The next book doesn’t come out ‘til 2022, alas.

message 533: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Oh - and no love triangle.

message 534: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Good to know, Jennifer -- especially the absence of a love triangle :) I just got an email from the library that my hold has come in, so it looks like I'll be reading that book sooner than expected.

message 535: by Jennifer (last edited Mar 15, 2021 12:09PM) (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Since I finished a pick (and no, we won't be going into how many I still have that are unfinished), I'm picking The Cake Therapist by Judith M. Fertig because I want to bake that cake!

4 stars to To Kill a Mocking Girl (Bookbinding Mystery #1) by Harper Kincaid btw and I did not see the villain coming....

My next five:

Witching For Grace (Premonition Pointe, #1) by Deanna Chase The Girl On Legare Street (Tradd Street, #2) by Karen White The Daydream Cabin by Carolyn Brown The Ordeal of the Haunted Room (Chronicles of St. Mary's, #11.5) by Jodi Taylor Surviving Savannah by Patti Callahan

message 536: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Thanks, Jennifer. That's one of the few books I've ever bought simply because of the cover :) I'd love to bake a cake like that too, maybe I'll experiment for Daughter's birthday in mid-June. She loves rainbow-colored things lol

I try to do that. I promise myself I'm going to read only books I own, and I even started a shelf called "my 100 and I'm not kidding this time" to make me read a hundred I own before I buy any more....yeah, didn't work.

First Earl I See Tonight (Debutante Diaries, #1) by Anna Bennett

It's the first in a new-to-me series, so I'm looking forward to continuing with it sooner rather than later.

message 547: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. | 3775 comments Chelsea, if you haven't read it yet, I choose Aloof Figuring Out Life with a God Who Hides by Tony Kriz
I normally don't choose covers with no color, but I like the texture and simplicity of this one.

It's been a while since I offered hot guy covers, so here are a few from my current list to choose from (and drool over):
Can't Hurry Love (Crooked Creek Ranch, #2) by Molly O'Keefe Rough Ride (True Brothers MC, #4) by Gillian Archer In It to Win It (Wynn Hockey, #2) by Kelly Jamieson Hot Finish (Fast Track, #3) by Erin McCarthy Reaper's Legacy (Reapers MC, #2) by Joanna Wylde

message 548: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1895 comments Finished the book that Jennifer chose for me a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, the story didn't quite live up to the cover, and it ended rather abruptly. To make it worse, she baked -- and talked about -- all kinds of goodies, but there wasn't a single recipe at the end of the book :( At least the cover was pretty to look at lol
The Cake Therapist, by Judith Fertig, finished 3/27 ★★★

Barb | 1895 comments Connie, I'm not a hot guy abs on the cover reader, but if you haven't already read it, I'm choosing Can't Hurry Love (Crooked Creek Ranch, #2) by Molly O'Keefe for you because I like the blue :)

My next five :
Lemon Drop Dead (Amish Candy Shop Mystery #6) by Amanda Flower Family Reunion by Nancy Thayer A Trail Through Time (The Chronicles of St. Mary's, #4) by Jodi Taylor Margaritas, Marzipan, and Murder (Cape Bay Cafe Mystery, #3) by Harper Lin The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down Guidance on the Path to Mindfulness from a Spiritual Leader by Haemin Sunim
