I just added The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James, Something Fresh by P.G. Wodehouse and Shirley by Charlotte Bronte.
Kathy I'd like to read Shirley too, it's been on my shelf for a while now.I picked up a collection of six Hemingway stories today which I'm very pleased with. I just need to start reading books as quickly as I can acquire them!
Kathy and Georgina
Shirley by Bronte would be a great suggestion for the Husky reads under Hefty's!

I would love to, but I've already made my suggestion, I'd happily second it if someone did suggest it though.
Georgina wrote: "I've just seen Brian has suggested it, thanks Brian"You're welcome. Luckily, like timeouts in football or challenges in tennis, I had saved a suggestion to use.
I just got a second hand copy of The Good Companions (1929) by J.B. PriestleyJohn Boynton "Jack" Priestley, OM (13 September 1894 – 14 August 1984) was an English novelist, playwright, screenwriter, broadcaster and social commentator.
His Yorkshire background is reflected in much of his fiction, notably in The Good Companions (1929), which first brought him to wide public notice. Many of his plays are structured around a time slip, and he went on to develop a new theory of time, with different dimensions that link past, present, and future.
In 1940, during the second world war, he broadcast a series of short propaganda radio talks that were credited with strengthening civilian morale during the Battle of Britain. In the following years, his left-wing beliefs brought him into conflict with the government and influenced the development of the welfare state.
Just received: Corinne, or Italy by Germaine de Staël 1807; and, The Lost Stradivarius by John Meade Falkner 1895.

A little late, but I got this for Christmas and was so pleased with it, hopefully I'll get round to finishing my Lovecraft challenge this year (I'm a little behind!).The New Annotated H.P. Lovecraft: Beyond Arkham
Georgina that looks simply scrumptious! I just got several Agatha Christie, but also bought a new book, it came out in 2020.
Kona Winds - Scott Kikkawa
A hardboiled mystery taking place in 50s Hawai'i written by a Hawaiian author!

You find some very unusual books, Jazzy. You will be busy with new books, music & Norwegian! I have 2 gift cards to use in a bookshop, but am waiting to be able to go in the shop to choose. I’d like to find something special, so don’t really want to just buy books online for them to be delivered.

"I had that copy, since I just got the Barnes & Noble edition I gave it to my friend and told her look, see how short the chapters are! And she started reading it straight away. Congratulations!! Time for celebration x
Trisha wrote: "..."Trisha I was looking for a book for an A-Z Locations challenge in another group and was trying to think of something cool that started with K, and so went in search of books set in Kona, Hawai'i and found this. I flipped through it and it does look pretty good. It will do for that challenge. Otherwise I don't think I'd have ever seen it!
In the mail on Saturday were 5 books I ordered!!

I got a great book recentlyNabokov's Butterflies: Unpublished and Uncollected Writings by Vladimir Nabokov
Here is a man who was a lepidopterist since age 7, he was married to Véra for fifty-two years—a record, apparently, among literary couples—and their intimacy was nearly hermetic. He wrote about people from all walks of life and lived in several countries....
Yet he writes one book about a man who has a relationship with a young girl, and despite the fact that its not graphic and is an excellent piece of writing, that's all he is remembered for - and usually in a negative light.
The book isn't on gr but I just got it
How to get All You Want
While travelling in Sweden,
Hugo Simplified Version, 1960.
pretty sweet and useful too!
Yesterday we went to a thrift store and I fouThe Golden Assnd a Robin Hood by Howard Pyle vintage book. I think it is from the mid 70's, I loved the inscription "To Arron, love the Original Naked Dancer, bernard and Jamie. Christmas 1978". I also picked up a copy of The Golden Ass, Henderson the Rain King, The Arabian Nights one that isnt 1000 pages long (possible suggestion for a hefty read), and Tales of King Arthur and his knights.
Hi Jazzy lemon, I will consider your recommendation, my favorite novel book is the Count of Monte Cristo. Thanks for sharing your insights !!
I read Monte Cristo with the group read and Arabian nights last year. I enjoyed them both. I have been looking for an abridged version of Arabian nights that wasn't completely butchered. Just something to quickly revisit the worlds until I felt like tackling the full thing again.
I was gifted a box (empty ream of paper box) of old books yesterday from a County employee that had heard I like old books and I like to recycle hardcovers.
The box must of weighed like 25 to 30 lbs!
Some are in really awful shape, covers falling off and pages so brown they are crisp.
I found 8 that are in fairly good care and debating on one (not sure my book glue will help).
The first one I found is a romance story from an American Author from Kentucky. Over Paradise Ridge

An interesting gift, Lesle. Hopefully you’ll find some gems in there that you will really enjoy reading. A project to start this weekend, perhaps, or maybe to wait for warmer weather when you can read on your lovely porch.
The sad part Trisha is most of the books are embossed in the cover with the decorations. Like this one from 1896:
This is the one I am trying to consider if I can save it or not. The cover is fine just the rest of the binding is not. Pages are not too bad either.

I sold an assortment of kids’ books and my books in exchange for 2 books - “The Birds and Other Stories” by Daphne du Maurier (gift for my husband but I plan to read it) and “Time Out of Joint” by Philip K. Dick (gift for myself). Last month I picked up “Zorba the Greek” and “Cheri and The Last of Cheri” by Colette. Has anyone read any of these books?
