Bryn Barnes (bryndigsbooks) So far this challenge is fitting in incredibly well with what I want to read.

Week three
Spot: 26 (Read #2, #6 Or science fiction)
I'm planning on reading both
A court of mist and fury by Sarah J. Maas (#2 in series) and
The handmaid's tale by Margaret Atwood (science fiction). I'll update with whichever hook I finish first. Most likely the handmaid's tale because it's way shorter.

Date Read: 6/17
Rating: 4 stars

Review: I've read a few of this author's books now, spanning 2 inter-connected series. I've been pleasantly surprised every time. I go into these books expecting a brief, pleasant, distraction. They are that, but they are much more, as well. They are books that humanize royalty. I never feel that these are people who's lives are high above mine. They are just people who love, laugh, and cry just like the rest of us. Just with a bit more money!

I'm getting started on my book - it's an audio book and I usually listen while I walk my dogs, but with the weather so hot, those are cut down significantly! I'll finish on time, though.

Review: I just love this series! UF is one of my favorite genres so this is right up my alley but it's the humor that sets it above the others. (Oberon is hilarious) I find it interesting the way Hearne pulls in the myths and religions of so many cultures. In addition, it is action packed and the dialog is "real", not stilted or overly slangy. Fantastic!

Fierce Obsessions (The Phoenix Pack, #6) by Suzanne Wright
Book: Fierce Obsessions by Suzanne Wright
#2 in series
Read: 18-Jun-2017
Rating: ★★★★★
Review:
Phoenix Pack books have always been quick and very entertaining reads and it was the same with this sixth installment. It was great finally getting Tao's story and catching up with others as well. There are some elements that are repeating themselves through the series, but it was still a wonderful paranormal read.

message 123: by Laura (new)

Laura | 901 comments Unless I missed a post, we just need completion posts from Bryn, Sandy, and Jenny. I'm fairly certain today is Thursday (right?). So now it's time to ask, "How's everyone's reading coming this week?"

Add a book, and this is me this week:

message 124: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 1078 comments Yes it's Thursday! When do I need to post my completion?

Also for the alternate, is it "tagged" or "MPG" science fiction?

Laura | 901 comments Jenny wrote: "Yes it's Thursday! When do I need to post my completion?

I can roll tonight before I go to bed if everyone has posted.

I'm not sure on the tagged or MPG question. Let me see if it's been asked in the Q&A.

message 126: by Laura (new)

Laura | 901 comments So, technically it's late if it's not posted by 11:59 tonight (that's Central time). I went to Q&A to look for tagged/MPG info and found this: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Also, if not all reviews are in in time, we miss the roll for the next week: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

And, finally found the answer I was looking for. I thought I had seen it. It just has to be tagged: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Space 26

Book: The Manchurian Candidate by Richard Condon
Alternate: tagged science fiction
Read: 6/21/17
Rating:: 5 stars
Review:
I really enjoyed this book. I have seen the movie (starring Frank Sinatra) but never had an opportunity to read the book that inspired it. The characters are well crafted, and the psychological suspense is tangible throughout the book. I highly recommend it to fans of spy novels, pscyhological thrillers, or just plain good books.

How it fits: Real Duet #2
Completed: 6/22/17
Pages: 250
Stars: 5
Review: Awesome second book in this duet - loved it!! There was so much going on in this book - it seemed much longer than it was 'cuz it was action packed (both in events and in the bedroom, kitchen, on the hood of a car, etc...) Banner gets a huge surprise, we learn more about her business and her relationship with Logan just keeps getting hotter and hotter. And the drug biz in Kentucky heats up as well - a big surprise ending! Funniest moments - references to boxes of dicks and goin' to Browntown!

I got it. I was messed up this week. As you know, on Tuesday I posted thinking it was Wednesday. Then yesterday, when my alarm to put out the trash cans went off, I was like, "It's Wednesday already!?" That's why I had to make sure today was Thursday! :)

message 132: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Barnes (bryndigsbooks) I'm so sorry but I won't be able to finish a book tonight for this week. I've had a few personal emergencies in a row and just didn't get really any reading done. I'm so sorry and I hope this doesn't effect the team too negatively.

message 133: by Laura (new)

Laura | 901 comments Bryn, we just won't be able to roll this week. Will you have any problems finishing before next Thursday? We still need you to finish in order for us to move on.

If a problem comes up in the future it's better to say something earlier. Mods are people, too, and can extend grace for extenuating circumstances, if they are informed early.
