I ALSO AGREE!

Solaris (solarisduvaniel) In your own words:

WARNING : ROWAN HATERS BEGONE CAUSE IF YOU STAY YOU'LL GET OFFENDED

Manon is beloved and adored across the board for being a man-eating, blood-drinking cannibal that lives on a code of cruel and merciless violence. Then her character grows away from that---to the point of being fascinated, interested, liking, saving, lusting for Saint Dorian and NOT killing him after she beds him. Wow. Their relationship had such amazing page time that it evolved from man-eating monster to trustworthy lover. Yet Rowan is hated for being cold and violent and having deep emotional scars and eventually thawing out of that over the span of an entire book and then maybe a whole 'nother half book after that. Contradictory and hypocritical.

IMHO SJM could have written Rowan's and Aelin's interactions a lot better, and their evolution from disdain to trust and deep friendship in HoF so much better. Several things didn't link up or make sense. I don't have much of a problem with Rowan in QoS or EoS since that is when the reader actually starts to see the world through Rowan's eyes. In QoS he did seem OOC in a couple places compared to what we gleaned from Aelin's perception of him in HoF.

But it's not enough to bother me that I hate him and cease reading the series and spew my venom all over online boards about him. If I hated something that much I'd make my own website of hate and troll there. I enjoy his character and the whole series, but some things could have been better done. I wonder at SJM's contract to write an entire book in a year, and her editing team.

So I suppose I'm one vote in the other direction.

I think for every single contender for Rowan/Aedion, we'd have to all but cut and paste his head onto The Rock's body to get the full description spot on. >_<;;;

Haha too true!

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) I was actually all for Rowaelin in QoS. I feel Rowan was just not upto the mark overall in EoS. And Manon is losing herself. Yes, she is softening and become more human but really. Manorian was not a relationship. It was just overwhelming lust and situations. Trustworthy lover is a far stretch for Manon but I like her that way. Being cold and detached for Rowan is okay, we can understand and forgive. But what he did say and how he did act or think was just not good in my opinion. The feminism was very fickle an desperate.

message 308: by Tristen (new)

Tristen (bo0kenthusiast) In Heir of Fire, I was like "YAY! Platonic friendship XD" and then in Queen of Shadows, I was a little heartbroken because I was a Chaolaena shipper, but still pretty open about who she would end up with. I ended up being more than okay with Rowaelin like DAMN. I don't know if it's just me(@Fangirl), I think I'm just a crazed fan, but I would totally swoon over Rowan if he were my lover.

What the heck am I trying to say? I really don't know.

message 309: by Jess S (new)

Jess S (mintchip) | 267 comments I wasn't as disturbed as some of you are about Rowan/Aelins growing romance and Manon/Dorians lust-ship. I feel like those relationships are growing at an accurate pace. I was more disturbed by Lorcan/Elides relationship. I had hoped Elide would grow more but we just saw more of the same manipulation and weakness from her.

I did also have a little problem with Aedions mood swings. I love you to I hate your guts to I've never met you I hate your guts to you we're an assassin who's doing nothing for her country because your not letting me in on all your plans.

I totally agree.

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) I hated Aedion's unexpected rants, but I wouldn't throw him completely under the bus. Maybe just enough to scare the living daylights out of him. He is a general, so he is used to plotting and discussing everything, everything with his team. And we all know how different Aelin's style is. Also, there was a point where they were definitely losing. Unexpected allies and rivals come in. It's enough to make someone's head spin. But remember, he still cares a lot about everyone- that's the main reason he was so anxious.

Let me make it clear, I did not like his tantrums at all. I'm just trying to put on his shoes and see.

I agree and ur rants are quite funny tbh

message 320: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (_naomijennings) | 5 comments I think you have to expand your views on what sexuality really is, these characters are going through hugely traumatic events and in many cases are close to death , Sarah has said this in an interview before but if theres graphic violence and war then why not let the characters get intimate? For Manon and Dorian it's an escape and a distraction same goes for Lorcan and Elide. They are in a hugely intimate situation when they are together so of course he is going to 'lust' after her anyway please don't take offence these were just thoughts not really aimed at anyone

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) @Naomi, you definitely have a point. I'm fine with that. I agree they need a distraction, but I guess that's all there is. No romance as such (for now). It may transform into something meaningful later on.

Ray (warrior of randomness) XP | 106 comments Would Rowan become Aelin's King?

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) Yeah. Probably.

imashamedofmyoldreviews (pleasedontjudgeme_ichanged) That's the plan, but it's not HAPPENED yet. So if a plot twist is on its way, I don't know.

message 325: by Diane (new)

Diane (mystifiedswift) I just want you guys to know that my friend is currently reading HoF. She said that if I didn't tell her Celaena/Aelin and Rowan date she would've thought he was gay. That is all.

message 326: by [deleted user] (new)

Really? That surprises me, because I always thought that Rowan was portrayed as very masculine, very appealing to straight women. Not that gay men aren't masculine, but you know what I mean.

I like how Rowan is so indifferent and close with Aelin at first and then... well he's just so freaking adorable sometimes (not always, most of the time he's still been strict but well i still love him) and his evolution along the series is amazing.

message 334: by jenny ! (new)

jenny ! (fengflower06) When you love Rowan Whitethorn and you're scrolling through the anti-Rowan comments that clearly state "Don't read if you support Rowaelin" but you read it anyway because you torture yourself like that, and end up sobbing in the corner thinking that "No one understands me!" even though there are thousands of other people that love Rowan as well.

Like, the daily struggle.

The thing is, I really don't like Manorian (the only SJM ship I'm not okay with, apart from Moriel, which really shouldn't have been a thing in the first place and kind of isn't canon), but I'm fine with people that protest their love for Manorian. I only sob in the corner when someone else hates some book/book character that I love.

Sometimes I wonder why I even read hate reviews about books I love, but it's like going on a character's wiki site before finishing a book and spoiling yourself about their impending death even though you knew that spoilers are a definite risk (I tOtALly haven't done that before).

Moriel isn't even a ship technically (as of ACOWAR), and Manorian is an on again off again sort of thing, which, in the end sort of drifts apart a little.

In my opinion, reading negative reviews about favorite books is the sort of thing you do to express your opinion against the reviews mentally and reassure yourself the book is still amazing.

Rosalind Lucas I spent the first 3 books worshipping Chaolaena and I was so annoyed that it didn’t work out for them, I completely forgot about them the moment Rowaelin arrived.

I love how much depth Rowan has and I love the fact that although he may seem cold and harsh on the outside if you dig deep enough there is a broken souls who just needs someone to love him and someone to accept him for who he is, He is one of my favourite characters in this whole series.
